Landry Jones...

Normally a fourth for a backup QB that you believe has some potential isn't bad. It was the timing of the pick. The Steelers were in full on rebuild mode. They had no room to throw away a mid round pick on a luxury like a project QB it was just a dumb move. They can practice squad him, the 53 man roster would be stupid. A couple phone calls and you have at least that. Their has to be someone near the cut line with more potential. No one is going to scoop Landry Jones on to their 53 man anyway. not with what he has put on film.

Trade Mike Adams to Atlanta for TJ Yates and cut Jones.

TJ has been horrific for the Falcons this year since the trade with the Texans. He threw two interceptions Saturday, one being a pick six. He got pulled from the game before he threw a couple more. I thought that he was going to be a good backup, but he locks onto a receiver and then throws late. He and Jones both should be unemployed.

Landry Jones hasn't looked too hot. Perhaps we should keep Brandon Kaye on the PS and send Jones packing.

I didn't like the pick but figured anyone who set as many records as him in Oklahoma I'd give the benefit of the doubt. So far he has not impressed. My biggest problem is Landry Jones had a very similar rating as Zac Dysert and Tyler Bray and both could have been had with out 7th round pick (Nick Williams). Not that either one are blowing up the NFL but they are at very least on par with Jones. I personally wanted Khaseem Greene who did not impress last year but so far looks to have taken a leap forward in year two.

I don't know who they should have picked in the 4th round last year, but he is the most vanilla pick they could have made. Hell, I would have picked AJ McCarren this draft, who has a lot more upside than Jones will ever have. Sorry, didn't like the pick then and still cringe.
I feel sick - AGAIN...I said it when we pick Landry, and again, when we had the opportunity to get AJ this year instead of the Bengals...

He was a 3rd rounder. He was Louis Nix. Or Bruce Ellington. Or Justin Ellis. Or Pierre Desir. Or Crockett Gilmore. Or a plethora of other potential draft picks at or below pick #83 this year. All of which could improve depth at DB or DL or OL or TE. All the position we sit around and complain about when the starters leave and things start to look a little shaky.

Those shaky 3rd and 4th quarters of pre-season games is EXACTLY what people complain about when this regime throws away 3rd-5th round picks on frivolous picks like QB and special teamers.
Landry wasn't picked in the 3rd.

Maybe. But that is the chance you take when drafting.

Your logic is what gets me. If Ben gets hurt, they are done regardless. Nobody has a franchise guy at 2nd string, let alone 3rd string. It is about winning Super Bowls. The Patriots ain't winning it without Brady, nor the Broncos without Manning and so on.

Fixed it for ya!
Ben proved the world wrong and came from the 2nd string too - WITHOUT VIDEO CAMERA ASSISTANCE.

Landry wasn't picked in the 3rd.

They traded a 2014 third-round draft pick to acquire the extra fourth-round pick last year, so in essence, yes, he (Shamarko or both) was a third-round choice.

That is a reach. They picked Jones I am pretty sure with their 4th rounder. They picked Thomas with the 4th they acquired for their 3rd this year. So Thomas was the 3rd rounder. they can't be lumped together like that.

It´s pretty bad when you get pulled in a pre-season game. He reminds me of bad version of Kent Graham.
At this point he´s just eating up a roster spot. I thought I heard the announcers say he wasn´t active for a single game last year. Waste of a roster spot if you ask me. I highly doubt any team will claim him off waivers.

I disagree. Odds are that Thomas drops to their fourth pick and there was no need to draft Jones. They wanted both players and made the move.

You are dealing with what may have been. I am dealing with what was.

Oddly enough those, who a year ago, were saying we should trade Ben cause LJ was our future sure are quiet!

I do remember a little cherp cherp back then.

You are dealing with what may have been. I am dealing with what was.

MANY MANY here could be in that catagory, may have & what was.

Salute the nation

Maybe the Steelers could trade Laundry to Cleveland, they could use another below par QB.

Of course they can be lumped together like that. They were 3 picks APART!!!

Do you really think if the team didn't ALSO WANT LANDRY JONES, they would have traded for Thomas? Do you think that trade was done in a vacuum when they were picking 3 picks later?

Boy, you guys are all idiots if you think that. I'm sorry to be blunt. But trading for the extra pick was BECAUSE they wanted Landry Jones TOO. That was the logic behind it. They had Thomas. He was higher on their board and would have 99% likely been there 3 picks later (one of the teams in between us had picked a safety earlier in the draft too).

This could be the dumbest argument I've had on this message board. The idea we traded for Thomas and didn't trade for Jones. What a load of bullshit to cover up for a terrible move by this organization.

Seems like a bunch of semantics to me. The fact is they wanted them both and they made a trade to accomplish getting them both. Doesn't matter who the trade was "for" since without it, they don't get both. And I'm thinking that the one they wouldn't have picked w/out the trade was Jones.

If we were so ******* worried about taking him, AND we were so ******* sure Thomas was going to be there, then why didn't we pick Jones first, THEN Thomas. I mean, ****, if the trade was to get Jones, don't you think we would have, oh, ****, I don't know, USED IT on JONES?

Maybe?

And this is the kind of dickheaded posting that pisses me off. You go off all "well ****, of course Thomas would have made it 3 more picks" when you don't know jack **** about if he would have, or he wouldn't have. Unless you were in the ******* draft room of those other teams, you do not ******* know. The audacity it takes to come here and slam people posting facts, replacing it with your own uninformed conjecture, and THEN to call THEM idiots. I mean, ****, surmising half the ******* facts to suit your position is WAY smarter than saying you don't know what other teams had on their draft boards. Of course.

Stupidest logic ever and you admit it! NFL Draft: 2013 / Round: 4 / Pick: 115 Landry Jones was a 4th round pick. It is idiotic to suggest anything else and have anyone take you seriously.

sooooo, we agree then that Jones is not the future, right? Trying to get back on track here. . . lol

Thank you O Great One for enlightening us and clearing up our failings for us.

That was my point with a prior post quoting the "with the information Colbert has". The idea that "surely he would have been there 3 picks later" may very well be true. Of course, we don't KNOW and one might guess that Colbert might have heard rumors of someone else trading up for Shamarko, but that is just plain crazy talk. clearly Colbert is just stupid and could be replaced by people from a message board and the Steelers would be better off. Honestly, I don't know how the Rooneys amassed such a fortune while being so stupid as to hire someone like Colbert.

Maybe it WAS a **** up. Maybe not. I don't know and I choose to give the FO the benefit of the doubt. I guess that makes me stupid.

I think Landry Jones has done everything in his power to ensure that the Coaches know he is not ready for Prime Time and does not deserve a spot on the 53 man roster.

Have the Steelers ever started the season with just 2 QBs on purpose? I know there have been times they've been down to two or even one healthy during the season.

Go with 2 QB's, if God forbid Ben and Bruce get hurt in the same game well, Heath Miller played QB in high school.
Or see if Tony Dungy is available. (Dungy filled in at QB in the 70's and has the distinction of being the only player to catch an interception and throw and interception in the same game.)

I was thinking that if both get hurt in the same game, use Bell to take snaps for the rest of the game. If it is Jones, the D can just pin their ears back and rush anyway. Bell is better to avoid that than Landry.

Please Steelers bring in Kenny Guiton from Ohio St and see if he can play at this level, he is better than Jones (i know that isn't saying much).
He has got a strong arm and is mobile. Jones doesnt just have a slow release, it seems like the ball is moving slow when he throws it.
To be honest i dont think Bruce is that great of a #2 QB.
