Lawrence Timmons visiting Dolphins Thursday

Good. Now we can focus on upgrading. Let's go after Hightower. Or better yet, switch from a 3-4 altogether and stop leaving our linebackers to cover deep.

Timmons signs with Phins...took the cash. 2 yrs, 12 mil, 11 mil guaranteed.

yeah, 2 downs isn't worth $12M

on to the waiver wire scrub list for a replacement

Vince is a solid down hill tackling machine I would worry about dropping him coverage, This move should move Peppers high on our draft board and Butler should really know now that with this loss he unless you get Peppers will have to try a 4-2-5 with the 2 LB as Shazier and try Davis that close to the L.O.S or putting a guy like Peppers with his range next to Shazier would allow you to mix the amount of zone and heavy blitzing

Get better by subtraction, Timmons would be fine still if the league wasn't such a passing league, Williams is just as good, if they use him more as a two down LB, like Timmons should be

I don't know... do you think Vince has the same speed Timmons has even at his older age?Timmons pass rushing up the middle was underrated. It'll be interesting to see if Vince can produce similar to Timmons of last year.

Williams will start, maybe we will re-sign Spence

Timmons was #2 on the FA ILB list

1. Dont'a Hightower: In a surprise move, the New England Patriots didn't lock up Hightower to a long-term deal before free agency started. He's been the heartbeat in the middles of their championship defense.

2. Lawrence Timmons: Timmons may turn 31 years old after he signs his free-agent contract, but he's still one of the league's most athletic linebackers.

3. Zach Brown: Brown provided a breakout campaign at the right time. In a contract year, he started 16 games for the first time in his career and finished second in the league with 149 total tackles.

4. Kevin Minter: Minter started 33 straight games for the Arizona Cardinals. He can be inconsistent, but he's coming off his best season.

5. D'Qwell Jackson: The 11-year veteran can still produce. Due to a late-season suspension, he didn't eclipse 100 tackles for the first time since the 2010 campaign.

6. Manti Te'o: Injuries wrecked Te'o's career so far. He's yet to play a full 16-game season, but he still flashes the potential that once made him college football's best linebacker.

7. Keenan Robinson: Robinson hasn't been very good during the last few seasons, yet he's started 27 games and his age (27 years old) make him a semi-attractive free-agent option.

8. Daryl Smith: If Smith were three or four years younger, he'd be much higher on this list. He'll turn 35 years old in a matter of days, though.

9. Kelvin Sheppard: Sheppard is a multi-year starter, yet he's already been on four different teams. This means he's a solid, albeit unspectacular, performer.

10. Michael Wilhoite: The linebacker crop starts to thin near the end of the list with a couple spot starters as the best options. Wilhoite started 34 games over the last three seasons.

Best of the Rest: Justin Durant, Akeem Dent, Sean Spence

Not the same player peeps.....And yes, we need an IL that can drop into coverage quicker than LT did.....

This doesn't bother me much.....

Steelers offered 5 mil/yr, not as much guaranteed $$$, per Adihti K

Who are available ILB in FA we could replace him with?

I just posted a list

Thanks Spike. I wouldn't mind Kevin Minter. Maybe in our cap range. Hightower probably too expensive but would be an upgrade over Timmons. I think both would be upgrades.

Ya, cause one thing Butler has demonstrated clearly is his ability to modify on the fly.

I expect BIG changes now... Big ole changes.

Vince Williams is just as fast if not faster now, but it shouldn't matter, if they use their LB's right. Williams should not be in the game in passing situations, neither should Timmons have been. Enough of the ****** 2DL set with all 4 LBs on the field on passing downs.
We need to use Heyward-hargrave-tuitt on the line, we have to have some size to push the pocket, leave Harrison and Dupree in to rush the qb like DE's, then Shazier at ILB, and 5 DB's.

uh-oh, maybe you should start a "Free Agency Winners and Losers" thread

are you happy how things unfolded so far?

now instead of a BPA in round 1 it might force them to draft a ILBer in 1.

Because as Timmons was bad in coverage Williams is even worse.

So instead of filling holes the team has just added to them.

How anyone can be happy at this stage of the game is beyond me.

Minter is only 26. Lots of upside and 5 years younger than Timmons. From what I know if him drops into coverage and does good job covering short routes, wonder if they're considering him?

We are not going ILB in rd 1. Either OLB or corner. Williams was extended because they knew Timmons may leave.

so your willing to hang your hat on Williams?

lol k

I never expected the Steelers to sign anyone on the FIRST DAY!!!!!!!!!

Why the dreamers get their expectations up every year is baffling to me.
