We play 3 defensive linemen about 67% of the time this season, yet McLendon has only played 42% of the time.
So basically, for every two snaps McLendon plays he is REPLACED by someone for one play (i.e. he plays 2/3rds of all plays we have 3 down-linemen on the field).
The other 1/3rd seems to be part of rotation Tomlin/Lebeau have created and involves Heyward, Thomas, Keisel and Tuitt. I believe there is a rotation for the 2 down linemen sets too (probably a rotation of Heyward, Keisel and Tuitt).
It's an odd set up right now. Because Thomas is part of the NT rotation AND the DE rotation on 3-down linemen, he's getting 61.5% of defensive snap counts. I thought Thomas was on the way out, but last week vs. Cleveland he played his most snap counts (by percentage) of any game to date. That has a bit to do with how little nickle we played, but still. For a player I thought looked pretty bad on film, giving him MORE playing time doesn't make much sense to me.
Who knows.
