Le’Veon Bell Should Report Today or Tomorrow

It was stated multiple times today that bell need not sign and still earn his free agency next year. Not sure how that **** changed over a week but that’s what they are saying. Yes no link but all talking heads on every talk show mentioned this. I still don’t understand but whatever.

So if that’s a fact. Why return? Why return for only 5 mill, while leaving 10 on the table and risk injury for which was the whole point correct?

Per CBA that isn't the case.

Buy and then do what I did to my Kordell Stewart. Have a backplate with your own name sewn over. I put Holmes but that didn't work out much better

You must have very high standards. Holmes was a Super Bowl MVP.

Yes .... and no. If Bell doesn't return/sign by the 13th, we're technically back in the same situation as we were last year, except he doesn't earn an accrued season Basically, the Steelers retain his rights and can Franchise tag him or now, Transition tag him. If they decide to do neither, then Bell becomes an UFA. Interestingly enough, they would have had at least the option of Franchise tagging him for a third time anyway. So, I'm not sure what off the field effect his failure to sign would/will have other than failing to earn an accrued season in regards to retirement benefits.
If I'm wrong on this, someone please clarify for myself and others.

Agree with this and Sarge. I say wait until he shows up at the facility and rescind the tag just before he walks in the door. Then he can go play for the Bills.

Disagree. The Steelers get nothing in return if they rescind the tag now. No compensatory pick in 2020, nada, zilch. PLUS, that team * up in Mass needs a RB ASAP. Rescind the tag and Bell is surely headed there and they would not be under the prohibition against signing him to a long term deal.

Even though they are paid to know they really just don't. One will say something then the other adds just a tweek and then the media picks it up and runs with it. It's amazing how unaccountable these talking heads are. I think their job is more about keeping the "BUZz' going about anything NFL. Good or BAD it's still publicity and this is a capitalization on that.

Sheftner stated that even if Bell sits out the whole season that next year it would count as a third franchise tag and the Steelers would have to pay him the average of the top 5 salaries. I think he has this wrong. If the Steelers tag him again if Bell does sit out the whole year it would only count as the 2nd tag because he didn't accrue last season(this season). Of course the Steelers could just decide to move on from Bell and then Bell would be a FA.

Here's the link to that article ICS

We disagree on our interpretations of the CBA, and to be clear, my article is my opinion and interpretation of the CBA. In all reality, the details will probably be fought by the NFLPA legal team and the Steelers/NFL legal teams to clarify. That amount of scrutiny is above my pay grade...

I fixed it after the SB. It was all downhill after that and he was gone within a year.

Still a keeper jersey imo. That game winning catch Holmes made gave me one of my biggest thrills as a Steeler fan. Unforgettable. I've been a fan since 1972.

Doesn´t Bell need to pass a physical also before signing anything?

I'm pretty sure he does if theSTEELERS have anything to say. Before they sign a contract of that magnitude they want assurances of health. ALSO if they don't think he is in good enough shape to play they can have a third party physician examine him to determine if he is football healthy enough to play. I don't think this will be a worry as BELL has been working hard since the "jet ski" pic as you've noticed all quiet durring that time, thus he was working out big time. He will be in pretty good shape come show up time. Will finish conditioning off durring the 2-week roster exempt which by the way he will get paid a negotiated price during the tag signing.

He an block for Conner and be a wedge buster on special teams.

I know it's too much to ask, but I am hoping when the guy plays at home that the crowd just let's him play. I get it. I understand the situation and don't get me wrong, I'm pissed. Some things are just best ignored and taken the higher ground. I think it's just bad mojo to get after your own players.

Sorry VCoaqch but BELL wouldn't be nearly as good as our current full back. The wedge has been outlawed for awhile now.................. but I would like to see bell played where he don't upset the integrity of the team yet we get most benefit out of him, including playing special teams.

No way Bell is mentally or physically ready to play. All this does is put Tomlin as well as the Steelers office on the spot of how they will handle him

I don't see any good that would come from Bell playing this year and there's a giant downside. If Bell starts playing and doesn't perform as well as Conner because he's been sitting on a beach then his stock drops like crazy. If he comes back and does play at least as well as Conner everyone says ok we knew it. I already said in tue begining of the season that Bells price isn't going to be as attractive next year because every year there's some really good to great back coming into the league and their much younger, and for a price that's a fraction of Bell's. Just my take on it. Bell never had an run average that Conner has right now. But now the giant Joker in the deck is the N.Y. Jets. They have lots of money and all the talk here is they will be getting Bell. One incentive is all the money he lost this year.

It's really important that the Steelers do what they can to manage his next location. Imagine if we just cut him and he went to NE or Baltimore. That would suck. We have to do all we can to make sure he ends up a Jet or Dolphin. He needs to not be in our way.

I think Bell is a product of our system more than Bell is a great RB. NE will never pay what Bell wants. I do not see him flourishing in many systems and most of those teams are not going to payhim ridiculous money.

He would be a nightmare on the Patriots. I agree that they won't pay what he wants, but they would definitely know how to use him.

Well, I don't know if he would be a nightmare. Blount, Moss and Gordon seem like they were/are contributors while keeping their mouths shut. I do think if Bell gets his money, he will be a good boy since he would be getting paid "his worth". He gets on a crappy team and is losing, then you may hear him gripe, but I doubt it. It's all about the Benjamins with him.

Looks like Le’Veon is thinking of just sitting out the whole year. I think this is probably what will happen. He’s not going to be productive on the field so his best option is to just sit this year out.

I highly doubt he will be a third year tag. You don't get to skip a year and be rewarded. That scenario will take legal litigation and I bet BELL won't be happy in the end. I hope he gambles that risk rather than show up here this season as this team on the field has something special going on. TRUE we wouldn't have another talented RB at our disposal but I'd be willing for the risk. Common sense says that article is "false" news.

Doesn’t sitting out the whole year put him right back in the same situation he was in last offseason? He won’t get a third tag because he never fulfilled his second tag. He will try to hardball the Steelers, get nowhere because he’s greedy and Conner is better than he is anyway, get “second tag” money again, sit out again etc in perpetuity until he never makes another cent playing football. If he doesn’t show up he is *idiotic*

Like him or not we need him if we're going to get to where we want to go. Conner is getting fatigued and everyone can see it. Start Conner and let Bell close out the 2nd halves.
