We got a couple days of news then a break again till camp so I'll ax yinz this.

Are we really losing anything with Me'veon gone ?

My contention is that we ain't losing nuttin' . Our runners have always been productive, especially of late.

While killing time during an unusually wet couple days here in the woods, I watched some film and came to the conclusion that we may even be better off with Conner. He seems faster, runs just as hard and has a much better attitude. Plus...we now have a lot better depth and the ability to change the pace of the game at anytime without sacrificing much talent.

Here's my research...yeah I had to mute the sound..... but whatever.

I say we could put just about any decent RB in there with these same components and they would be successful. Which makes me somewhat eager to watch ole Me'veon up there in the 'Big Apple'.

LOL...could be a hoot, who knows ?

Bell didn't play last year, so they aren't losing any on-field production with him gone. Add in Snell and the backfield depth should be stronger than it was last season.

The loss of Brown's production will be a hit. Ben and Brown weren't on the same page last season, but he was still incredibly productive and the Steelers really don't have much in terms of proven go-to guys outside of JuJu right now. Hopefully a couple of these other receivers can step up and fill the void.

Agreed about AB, but we're not filling his void with WRs. We're doing it by working in the RBs and TEs more soundly in the receiving game. DK says the Steelers are using Samuels on the OUTSIDE!. That will **** with some teams. Seeing the RB go into motion and lining up outside. Bell used to do that too, but usually moved to the slot. Should be interesting to see Fichtner implement personnel diversity between plays.

Is Samuels outside going to scare anyone or is it going to be like QB lining up out there when running out of the Wildcat? I suppose I would like to see the production made up in the running game. A more balanced attack last season and I think we make the playoffs.

Considering that Bell didn't play a snap for us last season, he's already been replaced. At RB its all about depth and making sure Conner takes care of the football.

At WR, we need our guys to get open and catch balls. It will not be done by just one person. This will be a total group effort. Those double and triple teams AB saw are gone. That puts more pressure on the guys to run crisp routes. It also means Ben won't be forcing throws one way. He can find an open guy and sling it.

As has been pointed out many many times - Conner was better last year in EVERY statistical category than Bell was the year before. (One could argue Bell did a better job in pass protection, I'll give him that possibility.) However, in ypc(arry), ypc(atch) runs over 20 yards, runs for loss and TDs Conner was better in every single category.

It's true, he got a bit banged up toward the end of the year, but we can all remember how often Bell was hurt also. With Samuels AND Snell, I would hope that Tomlin and Fichtner can come up with a plan to keep all of them engaged and fresh.

If Tomlin employs his run the wheels off mentality with Connor, which I’m afraid he will, then we’re screwed.
Tomlin carry’s no play sheet with him on the sidelines, and strictly coaches from the gut! Don’t expect much as long as he’s here.

if used properly, our running game should be tops in the league. rushing/receiving wise

I think they will plan to run more, but once bullets fly, they will resort to Ben dropping back 40 times, unless our D improves enough that we won't need to ring up the scoreboard to win.

Bell was gone last year and the backfield (mainly Conner) didn't miss a beat. I expect the backfield to put up even better numbers this year as I don't think the game plan will be to not use the running game at all in several games like they did last year. Conner, Samuels and Snell will be a formidable group running and catching passes out of the backfield. Plus, Conner became a pretty darn good blocker in his 2nd year in the league. He is a 3 down back all the way.

I think our backfield is potentially better than it's been for years, I'm not worried at all about the OL, they are just about all top notch veterans and it seems I am alone in my vindictiveness toward Me'veon and his greed motivated FU to the team. Yeah...you too 84, ya greedy little prick.

I also can't wait to see Bell steamrolled the first time he stutters behind that Jets line. Her's hopin' I'm not disappointed.

Couldn't be happier to see these ******** gone.

Please.....not having a play call placard is the cause for why no championships? 3/4 of the coaches in the league don’t use them unless they are calling the plays. All HC have the ability to override a play call. Offense or Defense. BTW Hoodie doesn’t use play call placards either...so NE probably needs to fire him as well. He doesn’t need them anyway since Ernie memorizes all the plays for the OC to call the offense.

Only thing he struggled with was protecting the football. Those fumbles hurt

Yep, and when Ben is on, he can do it with the best of 'em. I can't remember how many games I saw where the box score said like 7-8 different receivers notched a catch.

Don't forget that JaySam played WR/TE (as well) in college...the kid is a beast!!!

Coach Tomlin did not employ this tactic last year. What makes you think he'll start it now - ESPECIALLY with the versatility of JaySam???

I fully expect Washington to excel this season and Moncrief to be productive too. Add in JuJu and Vance and we have plenty of targets for the passing game.

Cool Shades will slip back into his retarded "I will run the wheels off him" mentality and even brag about it. Just not too bright.

I think Ben was just singing Moncrief's praises, saying he's picking even the no-huddle stuff up quick and is grinding with Coach Drake every morning.

If his work ethic matches his talent, they might have a serious player on their hands.

Well Ike, there are multiple reasons for no trophy’s and most point to Tomlin. Play cards wouldn’t hurt since maybe rather than coach from his gut he might start making some intelligent decisions with plays readily available, Sure would have come in handy against the Patriots two seasons ago when maybe with some plays available to him he could have prepared Ben when they were reviewing the non Jesse James catch. No instead they went back on the field and looked like the keystone cops, totally out of sync.
And I wouldn’t compare him to Belicheck who can do whatever he wants. Tomlin is clueless!
