California voters elected to pass Prop 57.

https://ballotpedia.org/California_..._and_Juvenile_Court_Trial_Requirements_(2016)
The California Parole for Non-Violent Criminals and Juvenile Court Trial Requirements Initiative, also known as Proposition 57, was on the November 8, 2016, ballot in California as a combined initiated constitutional amendment and state statute. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported increasing parole and good behavior opportunities for felons convicted of nonviolent crimes and allowing judges, not prosecutors, to decide whether to try certain juveniles as adults in court.

A "no" vote opposed this measure increasing parole and good behavior opportunities for felons convicted of nonviolent crimes and favored keeping the current system of having prosecutors decide whether to try certain juveniles as adults in court.

sounds good on the surface. makes economic sense considering prison overcrowding and the cost to build prisons.
but the question lies in how to determine a violent felon from a non-violent felon. Obviously, this being California, the line will be blurred and murky.

Awesome. They also made pot recreational!

Go C.O.W.

The California Proposition approach has been hijacked by idiots and twits. This is the system that did, however, bring about the tax revolution in the United States in 1978 by way of Proposition 13.

Non-violent eh? Only a loony lib could term those offenses as non-violent. What would be the consequences of setting California loose? Maybe just the southern half. They don't represent the values and expectations of fly over country, that's for sure.
