Make it happen Omar!

The ankle and wrist problems started in week 8. His numbers were pretty crappy up till then already. His best game all season was 8 grabs for 90 yards and a Td... one of only two he scored last season...

He is in his third year... teams dont cut bait with a guy one season removed from that kind of rookie season without good reason... they have receivers, but no real star type per se... There are plenty of articles questioning his lack of physical play and focus before those injuries... he outright dropped 10 balls... and had a huge fail rate on contested balls... he couldnt pick up the new offense and the QB quit targeting him because his routes werent great... honestly he sounds more abd more like chase claypool as I read all this stuff
Yes, there is no questioning he had a rough sophomore season. Sophomore slump a lot of people call it. I also don’t believe the comparison to Claypool is going to stick with Thomas for the remainder his career.

My point is he has proven he could play at a very high level in the NFL
Also, adding to my opinion, is that there is only one wire receiver I would take at 21, and you never know what you’re gonna get with a rookie, the unknown is extremely difficult to gauge. in addition, we need someone who is going to provide real value now, like day one!

If we don’t trade for Thomas, I am a big proponent of looking at acquiring a proven NFL quality receiver through free agency before the season starts. Particularly Doubs and/or Pierce. As well as drafting two more wide receivers next month, as I mentioned in previous post.

i'd only trade for Thomas if we were able to put an absolute bullseye on the draft slot we expect to use for a WR. That is the draft pick I'd offer, no more.
and, i'd not be looking for a WR until the 3rd.

Yes, that makes sense. I got it.
My mock draft has us taking a receiver in the third and the fourth.
So there you go that kind of aligns with what you’re saying, I guess?

Idk, I think I’d rather see us use our first round pick and one of the third round picks on WRs. Re-sign Cal Austin and go with that.
The two draft picks are here on the cheaper side for four years at least.
Maybe take a look in FA to add one to the mix as well.

I think they will sign a Ufa Wr ... but this wr class is super deep... like regardless of where the room is at they should take one or two just on principle cause in drafts like this a couple stars are going to fall deeper in the draft .. its not really a draft you want to trade for a wr unless its a real deal... there just are a ton of options this offseason

If it’s even legitimate (doubt anything from Poni), nothing has been leaked to the Rappaports and Schefters who deal with agents directly, not teams. However one blogger is saying the trade is for a 5th rounder. If that occurs, Omar absolutely stole one from JAX unless Coen had Thomas in his doghouse and wanted him gone. They have Jakobi Meyer and Travis Hunter plus Washington as their core receivers.

Thomas is still on his rookie deal and has another year before the 5th year option can be used. So definitely worth the compensation if true.

Per reports Hunter will be a full time CB and part time WR. Not sure if that would prevent Thomas from being dealt if they wanted him gone. But a notable when assessing depth.

Yeah Slash, one of the hosts on the Morning Drive mentioned that about Hunter’s CB 1st, WR 2nd role. For the life of me, I don’t see why even acknowledging Hunter will play WR part time is smart. Teams already know he has the capability. They also know playing on both side of the ball is a novelty in the League, and is rarely impactful since the NFL so much more advanced than Div 1 college. To me it’s setting that player up to fail.

Thomas’s exit I think is more due to the HC souring on the player and vice versa.

Fully agree on the two-way play synopsis. It happens rarely and you never hear of a stand out two way player. I think Branch from the cheatriots tried / given the opportunity to do so. He was never anything that excelled or became a household name. It was mentioned by game day announcers and that was about it.

If the price is successful, Thomas could easily be a good pick up. Time will tell.

Salute the nation

This would be my concern as well. If the Jags are giving up on 23-year-old former first-round pick with Thomas' physical traits, it's alarming. Factor in a good offensive-minded head coach, and as you said, a solid--not special--wide receiver room, is Thomas the type of player you want to depend on? I agree for the right price it'd be worth exploring, though.

Sure he could be a flash in the pan, but I haven’t found anywhere he had the attitude like Claypool who was concentrating on his growing social media gig after his rookie year. Thing is, in Thomas’s second year he had new GM, HC, OC, and WR coach. That’s got to throw the marbles around in the 22 year old’s head. Maybe Coen didn’t have patience, knowing he was on a short leash.
