Malik Willis' price dropping

I never understood where that $30 million per year was coming from, instead thinking he'd max out at a Justin Fields "prove it" deal. I'd also have no problem with the Steelers signing Willis as it gives them something different. He could potentially be good enough to be a starter for the next 5 seasons. Maybe he busts and you go to Howard and then draft a QB high next year. Either way, it's the organization moving toward something.

I know exactly where that $30mil number emanated from:

His agent

$30 M for two years is probably Steelers max

$20 million is on the high side for a guy who's done nothing in the NFL. He'd still be coming in to compete with Howard if we brought him in. Any contract should be full of incentives. But, some idiot will still pay him $25 to $30 million per.

Slightly taller than Mike Vick, bigger hands, better physique. For a 2-year deal, why not? I'd do this 10 of 10 times over taking Rodgers back.

Malik Willis is a very interesting debate. He doesn’t have much for game time experience, but what he does have is very very good.

Would he fit the McCarthy mold at QB? Im sure MM is looking into him (amongst others) and time will tell his choice.

If it is Malic, the Aaaa-Ron is good-bye / long gone.

Still draft a QB……….. maybe Allar will drop to the 4th

I said a month ago his agent would overprice him because of the weak draft / FA class. The combine is a great sounding board for these agents to throw price tags out there and see what sticks. And I have no doubts team leak stuff and put out negatives to drive the prices down, we'll know in a week where things actually land. The connections to Miami are obvious but you never know.

Malik Willis may be nothing more than a backup but at this moment pretty much an unknown.
Very little sample size in GB to warrant a 40 or even a 30 million dollar contract for two years.
Most likely a team will overpay though but I hope it’s not the Steelers.
He may turn out to be nothing more than a backup.
Same for Mack Jones in SF that a team would have to trade to acquire. John Lynch asking price appears to high and again, may not be anything more than a backup.
Steelers need to draft a QB maybe in the third round and throw him in the mix and try to develop him. I’m afraid though they may pull a move to draft Ty Simpson in the first. Very limited time as a starter and another unknown and very risky move to draft him early in round one.
Durability concerns may be an issue here as well.

As hard as McCarthy quizzed Allar while at the combine, I think they take him over Simpson.

AFC North QB type, strong arm, NFL body type, Steelers type QB.

problem is, if we draft Allar, @tapeANaspirin2it will pull the head off and bleed out. then we'll not have our annual Penn State next HOF player thread.

i like tape. let's keep him alive and sacrifice Coolie instead.

Didn't like Malik Willis at all coming out of college. He's only started three games over the last three years. He is 74-94 for 1046 yards with 6 TDs and 0 INTs and a ridiculous 11.1 YPA over that same period. Plus 282 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground to boot.

Signing this guy to a huge deal is risky business given such a small sample size, but I can see why some team will probably give him $25-30 million per year. Those numbers are just other-worldly.

Willis has elite tools, though. 2 years, $40 to $45M total value, with an out after 1 year. We don't have a QB, until we do, buy as many lottery tickets as possible.

That'd rank 21st in the for QB pay with basically everyone below $20--outside of Rodgers--playing on a rookie deal. It's also $13 million below Baker/Darnold.

Id be down with the price range for the first year and very little or nothing guarenteed for the next two. And maybe nothing after next year is stretching it. The final contract will look somewhat like that.

Malick Willis is not the same QB he was in college, each year in the NFL has changed that to a degree.

He would be a gamble, and at $24 mil a year, is he worth the gamble of being able to move on and actually into a real search for a franchise QB.?

Rodgers is not an answer, but only another delay.

More likely than not, Howard could use another year as 2nd fiddle.

Rudy is cheap, no matter where he is placed on the roster.

We could divide more on building a better team and be confident in MM wisdom.

Do we take the risk, moving forward with an unknown, similar to changing of the coach…………..
