That is what Prenuptial Agreements are for. Any pro athlete that does not sign one is an idiot these days. Any agent, attorney, or accountant that does not tell the guy he needs to sign one should be fired.

The problem is most pro athletes. In the NFL most players are short-sighted, non-educated types. 70% of the NFL players 5 years after retirement have little or no net worth.

This is why the union should have a bigger pension fund. Take 5% of their salaries out now, and pay them based on years served once they are retired for 3 years.

I also think it's silly to get married before age 25 unless it's a high school sweetheart. There's a better chance you can trust her because she was with you long before you made your money.

Which brings me to this point, if the Raiders move to Las Vegas...

Honestly if the league truly wanted to do their players a favor, they ought to make it mandatory that 50% of their players salaries and signing bonuses are held back in retirement / pension funds.

And they shouldn't be allowed to touch it AT ALL. The players would whine like ******* but they'd thank the league later. Half of them would retire earlier with fewer long-term injuries and serious problems and they'd have money for the rest of their lives in a reasonable pension fund.
