Mason Rudolph

DIC nailed it.

I always thought he got a bad hand dealt him. Ben never seemed to like him, and they had little to do with each. He played well enough when in that four game streak.

The problem is not Mason. The problem is the leadership. Even if we sign Rogers, the issues will come out, and I would not be surprised to see Rogers and Tomlin his issues of conflict coming up. It won't take long for Rogers to see how lame Tomlin is, and the conflict will escalate, probably to the point of going public.

Mason has some skills. Let's see him use them. Still, Will Howard is probably our future. Hopefully he will have the good fortune of not wasting years under Tomlin, as Ben had to.
Only Ben, in extreme circumstances could wave off the killer Clown-lin wave of losership. Always in the 2nd half of loser football, where Ben had to wave off loser Clown-linship football and call his own plays to counter Clown-lin's loser ways. How many times have we seen Ben do this?

I agree with this somewhat, but our D relies on turnovers alot. How many times were they bailed out by a fumble or int. With that being said you can make your own breaks to an extent, but having to rely on that is not ideal. The D needs to be more aggressive and set up properly to counter whoever they are playing. Like no 2 DL against the Ravens for example. Blitz more, take some chances etc etc
You can do that more if you feel the offense may actually score if you make a mistake. With the offense the way it is they are trying too hard to play mistake free and that hurts them against the best teams. The over reliance on turnovers has been one Mikes Achillies heels recently. As good as they are doing it, it is too unreliable if your offense isn't putting up their share of points.

Fields was tomlins dream qb. A running qb with a scattershot arm. But he put russ in because...pedigree. Fields rotted. I'm glad he left. Tomlin has mismanaged his qb's. Looks like he's doing it again.
Nope Fields couldn't make quick enough decisions and was playing hesitantly. Tomlin wants confidence and I saw just the opposite from Fields. Not sure he will ever get that.

I’m just saying a veteran or a guy with upside. We tried Fields and he moved on. What about Trey Lance if we want a talented former high pick that’s still young? 2 million isn’t a big investment. Kyle Trask who was neck and neck with Baker when they battled it out. 2.875m is reasonable. Mac Jones is making 4.2m this season. I know a lot of people were high on him coming out of Bama. How about a veteran like Flacco at 4.2m or Brissett at 6.2m?

Yeah, not a lot of young studs as Darnold was the best option and too expensive. But rarely do teams let franchise quarterbacks walk. I’m just talking some competition for Ruddy.
I think Howard is as good a competitor as any vets that were legitimately available. He has played a lot of football against good teams and won.

I wonder how Ben would fare with these recent Steeler teams if he was in his prime?
I bet he would want no part of them, and be grateful for playing when he did.

Offensive philosophy and scheme go a long way. Team culture also. I agree. Tomlin has ran this team down in all areas....except the Tomlinship's area.

Kenny got a bad hand too for that matter with Tomlin pulling Canada's strings and Don't Kill Us offense. It wasn't like he landed in SF.

Funny how times have changed but QB discussions haven't since the Kordell days and would have gone back much further but Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet. Would be great to hit rewind and go back to the year Ben was drafted and read the pre training camp chatter about if he's going to be that last piece to the puzzle or be a bust based on a few throws in mini camp

With Mason as the starter, I see the Steelers winning maybe 7 wins, 8 if they have a real strong ground game. He'll put them in better position for a high draft pick at QB than a playoff win. Odds are they'll be bad enough that Howard will get some starts at the end of the season.
