The 4th & 1 at the end of the half. Canada calls a sweep and Najee is forced oob 2 yards behind the L.O.G.
There were 4 or 5 Chief defenders on Najee & 2 Steeler offensive linemen trailing... Literally BEHIND the defenders.

And they go to a shot in the O.C. booth and Canada smacks the table and mouths something and his ENTIRE demeanor cries out "HOW DID THAT NOT WORK?"

Jesus.

The flea flicker when we had attempted 4 rushes for 0 yards. A team that cannot run the football in the slightest, thinks that a flea flicker is going to fool someone? He is either woefully incompetent or incredibly ignorant.

"When your offense needs a mere 3' to gain a crucial first down, always remember to toss the ball three yards deep into the backfield and have the running back run sideways, not forward, and pull 11 defenders into an area the size of an average living room and hope that the running back can break four tackles and leap a guy to gain the needed yardage."

Once more... on that play there is supposed to be a blocker that seals the edge and makes all of those defenders take a longer angle to the sticks...
we:
A dont have a run blocking RT
B. Dont have a legit pulling guard or Center that can get out there that fast.
C. Have subar blocking from every WR and half the time from the TEs...
D. absolutely arent a threat to run up the middle because we have a center who can barely handle getting the ball to the QB before he is destroyed.

From the read , yeah it was a play that a normal team would have made... but then again what's our option? up the middle? we aren't ever using a fullback in the tomlin era and even if we do its absolutely telegraphed its going to be a straightforward run.... we dont even utilize a faster third down back to try to get the corner...

Once again... no blocking = no offense. the line should have gelled more by now. the wrs shouldnt be fundamentally inept at blocking... or catching ... or route running, or ball control... but hey they have their TD celebration game on point.... Canada's offense is in use by several teams across the league, including portions in KC... they have no issues running these plays... they also didnt decide to enter the year with an Oline built around a 2nd year starter that might have been the worse player from last years oline and a completely overhauled blocking scheme to boot

it was absolutely genius to call a play on 4th and short that didnt work earlier in the game and resulted in a loss then, also.

Couldn’t we just have set Najee over the top A la goal line leap?

Just about ANY play involving sending a player up the middle would have been better than a toss sweep. There is NO justification for that play call. NONE.

I have no idea how any of our coaches have a job.. A team with no Identity, no leaders , no play makers when one is needed, lack of tackling skills, receivers that cannot separate or block. Which means our coaching staff has no ability to coach up any of the players on this team. Last night post radio Sam and Batch was spot on this team consist of players that are not very good. We have been spoiled and watching this year has been exhausting for the Steeler fans. Then throw in Tomlins post game talk in circles say nothing comment leads for a bad day all around. Canada is just the tip of the iceberg that needs changed

How many times do we have like 3rd and short or 4th and short and throw the ball -2 yrds. Nothing should surprise anyone at this point. This team should just go jumbo package in the I and run every play for a whole game. maybe something would click

Again we have no success up the middle because our center is too small to handle a big dt… sending him ipnthe middle is a surefire tackle for a loss

I would like to see Canada have an opportunity with a younger more mobile quarterback and better line. His philosophy isn’t bad. This year, he doesn’t have much to work with. A ****** offensive line and a quarterback that just doesn’t fit what he really wants to do. Kansas City and San Fran run a similar offense to what Canada is trying to get done. San Fran may be in better shape with someone other than Garappalo at quarterback. The Steelers offensive line allows more penetration then Jenna Jameson in a gang bang. For next season, I would sit on the boat with Canada- but he would be on a short leash.

So what happened to Canada's statement that he builds his offense around the players that he has? And I get the fact that with this OL probably any offense ran would simply fail.

I think he is literally working with what he has. He’s also probably learned that Tomlin is telling him who he has to work with (could explain why we are seeing Ray Ray in the mix instead of a more proven receiver like Anthony Miller).

Ray Ray is limited but I loved to see he was making the most of his opportunities. Then he pulls a Claypool move against the Chiefs and gets a flag thrown on his ***. Seriously...this team lacks discipline. How hard is it to simply catch the ball and then hand it to the ref? Simply mind-boggling.

…..and then Tomlin defended his actions in the post-game presser! No ****, he said that the ref needed to use common sense instead of his player……..who was down 30 points……

They were down and down big at that point. But they go one week where they won't preserve nearly 2 min of clock in a game that is still there to going for it in their own end on 4th and 1 and calling 38 Toss no less.

And did you see the KC defenders on each side of the field? The right (from our vantage point) was stacked, the left maybe 3 (4 at most). If I were Ben, I would've just faked the toss sweep and ran it for the easy couple yards.

i noticed on that play that the best and most mobile OL the Steelers have pulling and washing out on the outside running play, i.e. K. Green was asked to stay put and handle a 2-technique DT. And then Turner blocked the wrong play and didn't move from his spot.

i mean... ****.

And i still don't think that pitching it is wrong call in that situation.

Why you're pitching it to the short side of the field, i can never know?!
Why Green isn't pulling i can never know?!!
WHY are they not pitching it to Legs' side, i can never know?!!!

Maybe so but Canada hasn't progressed in play calling at all. This offense hasn't found any one thing it's really good at. A new OC should find his base and build from there....... We have regressed and not improved. Help Help Help
