Mel Kipers first mock - Steelers - Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson

trade the pick if there's no OLB or CB that isn't a reach. Get more 2nd and 3rd rounders

or go value BPA

besides QB, ILBer, C (they won't pick these in 1)........ lot of areas on the roster could benefit from better depth..... but yeah picking up extra picks wouldn't hurt either....

only a LT I would pick at 22. TE, G, S, even DLine shouldn't have priority over extra picks, unless the team is really changing to a 4-3, then a disrupting DE would be priority instead of the OLB

trade up 5 spots and take SS Collins, take the utah CB 6"1 185 4.43 in the 2nd or 3rd.

I think we would need to trade up more than five spots to get Collins... but I agree, he will be a great player. The CB from Utah, Eric Rowe, is a Steeler. Really like the guy. Unless he blows it up at the combine, I think he is available in round three... maybe even four. I would really like to have him.

.

Beasley, a DE listed at 235 will get eaten alive in the NFL. No way I take him in the first round.

Time to get busy before the draft....KJ is rated as a 2-3 round CB, and we take him 22nd overall? Bit of a reach maybe...

Unless we do something we don't normally do and trade back OR draft a great player with a suspect character (Dorial Green-Beckam or Marcus Peters, both are sure top 10 if not for the issues), I want a guy who will create pressure right away similar to Woodley (without the laziness).

His name is: Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Oh a MAH bay O DIGGY zoo wah)

Kid was seriously strong and disruptive as the season wore on even coming off double hip surgeries to repair fraying labrums in both hips.

He was a 235# 5-star prospect out of HS and is 6'-3", 268# now. About the same size as Woodley but WAY stronger.

Check out this video of the kid playing nearly every position on the DL and pushing back a 6'-8", 350# kid in the process: http://draftbreakdown.com/video/owamagbe-odighizuwa-vs-usc-2014/

IMO, he is better suited as an edge rush LB in either the 3-4 or 4-3 set and even though he doesn't often finish (bad COD, might have been because of hip surgeries) he is REALLY disruptive AND makes loads of tackles in the run game. (usually a problem for first year edge guys)

I think he will be available late 1 or early 2.

Good student and better prospect (considering his year off) than Datone Jones who was selected at #26

If I get a trade partner to gimme an extra #2 or 3 to move up, I take this kid at late #1 and grab the extra picks.

There are very few prospects early that look like sure things BUT this kid IS an animal. Even in HS he was bull rushing 300# kids at just 235# according to his coaches.

for who?

all the top tweener OLB's are getting gobbled up way before us... now that all teams run a 3-4

If someone like Trae Waynes or one of top 3 edge rushers were to fall past pick 10. Im not advocating selling the house to move up to number 1. Moving up 10 spots this year would be similar to what we did in '03 to get Troy.

I just don't see the value of drafting a cornerback in the first round. Peters is probably the top guy, but has some red flags and Waynes is right there as well, but his lack of bulk is a concern. Outside of these two, I'd rather wait until the second round where there is more value.

If you think a CB can come in and start right away you pick him, I'm don't care about that value crap.

If we pick a guard, I'll scream

I think I can find a cornerback who can come in and start in the second round and another player who can start in the first round. 2>1

there won't be a CB at 22 that can come right in and start.

Do you count a nickelback as a starter?
I guess if we start in that package haha. Everyone wants a guy that is going to step right in and be a shut down corner, that's an unrealistic expectation, it may happen, but not likely when you're talking about the what, #3 or #4 CB in the draft?

no pictures, no analysis - so bland and boring a post I looked right past it - so common to the twitter generation today

that's the kind of outdated thinking that we're trying to get rid of
You don't play a guy just because he's a first round pick, if he's the best player, yes, but not just because he was your #1. I think most will agree that even though Shazier was dinged up, he was our fourth best ILB behind timmons, Spence, Williams, and yet Shazier started

My (naïve) wish is that the Steelers find a way to augment the roster by adding some missing pieces in FA. We're screwed if they're forced to reach for any particular position in the draft. I hate desperation "need" picks. If they can make a few key signings, they can take the best player available at any given point in the draft.

And by the way, I've come around and changed my view on the Dri Archer pick last year. The correct pick would have been CB Bashaud Breeland out of Clemson, taken in the 4th round. Breeland would currently be the best CB on our roster. We ****** up. But still not gonna hate on Archer and I'm rooting for tiny Dri to at least turn into a decent returner, but they whiffed on that one.

What? Are you questioning DL's judgement?
