I didn't even know Pittsburgh had a hockey team until the Lemieux buzz hit my small farm town 50 miles east of the Burgh. I remember laying in bed scanning through the radio channels and I heard this gravel voiced announcer say the word, "Lemieux" and I stopped surfing. Listening to him call the game gave me chills, the excitement in his voice literally made me sit up on the edge of my bed. Mike Lange turned this ol' country boy into a Penguin's fan that night.
Morning men..
Sad news on the doorstep.
As Pittsburgh sports fans ..We all have been very lucky to have listened to men like The Gunner, Myron, and Mike Lange over the years.
The Holy trinity of Pittsburgh sports broadcasting lore if you will..
RIP Mike and buy yourself a drink and get the Gunner and Myron one too!
What a kick to the head... Incredibly sorry to hear this news. I can't tell you how many games I listened to with him and Phil calling the games on the radio and when the Pens were on TV I'd listen to them over the stuffed shirts on ESPN, NBC, etc... I didn't care how badly the audio and video feeds were out of sync. He called it like it was and did an amazing job at keeping the most boring games interesting and the thriller games were out of this world. You had to be there to believe it...RIP Mike...
