Mitchell Played all Year With a Torn Groin

How do you run with a torn groin? However, if you are healthy enough to play, you better bring it and he didn't.

torn groin forced him to be constantly out of position and too dumb to pick up the defense?

THIS^^

Also, what does that say about Shamarko? A poor playing Mike Mitchell with a torn groin is better than Shamarko? Or is it more of a front office thing where "we made this splash free agent signing and by damn, he is playing". In other words stubbornness. If so, they should not live in their fear of bad signings.

This is the funniest thread in awhile. :D

Agreed - If only I ate popcorn...

So this guy made plenty of mental mistakes and was playing injured....and the coaches still thought he was the best option they had out there? That's as sad as it is scary.

he will get another season, at least, regardless of whether this is true or not. Safties dont always click their first year here.

As for playing with injuries... i have always said I want a player that wants to play through injuries, and i want a coach that will tell a player that he isnt playing when its the long term best solution

Tomlin just gave him a ton of praise at his presser, said he got better and better as the season went along and that his arrow is pointing up.

If he played with a torn groin, that is huge. Cut down on the penalties and he is instantly much better come next year. Can't say the same for Cortez. He should be cut.

So he had a groin injury, but the coaches sent him out every week, I'm not sure if he was on the injury report at all, something doesn't sound right.

I tore my groin watching him play

**** him

no. that's timmons' shtick.

Wasn't Tomlin quoted regarding Shazier's injury as a "boo boo" and was lucky if he played 1/3 of the season, but Iron Man Mike Mitchell played an entire season with a torn groin? Did he miss one game this year? Like Tom said, something sounds fishy in suburbia.

If he played with a torn groin, I admire his toughness and realize the injury would have affected his play on the field...even with positioning due to not having his speed and having to overcompensate for his injury. I feel that a few people on here bashing him have trouble changing the channel on their TV with a stoved finger. He could have sat out and collected his paycheck while recovering from surgery and instead, rather right ot wrong, he showed the toughness I want to see in a Steeler and played because the coaches felt he was the best option at his position.

He tore his groin scratching his balls as receivers ran right by him.

You should be his agent.

I highly doubt this is true. You can't run at all with a bad groin; you'd be in insane pain. I pulled mine in high school and collapsed and fumbled the ball, it was completely automatic. And I kept re-pulling it for months, by simply walking upstairs. You CAN'T play with a torn groin; that is absurd.

exactly, it's about as bad as a torn hamstring. Mitchell may have been injured, but not with a torn groin, that means the muscle is torn and can't work, which means you can barely walk let alone run and change direction, and the guy had no noticeable limp.

When they said torn groin they must have meant he broke his vagina.

It's total nonsense. You can't even play with a PULLED groin, never mind torn. This is being fed to us to excuse his crappy play and to excuse another poor personnel decision by the front office. BS

A lot of teams have sub-par safety play right now. I can't think of a position that is being put under more scrutiny and pressure from the new rules than they are.

And I think Lebeau's expectations from the position combined with having to play opposite free-wheeling Polamalu makes our FS position one of the toughest to play in sports.

Not an excuse for every bad move Mitchell made (he took a lot of bad angles on plays this year), but I want to give him a few more years before calling the signing a complete bust. There were not a lot of choices at that position last season (keep Clark? Sign the more expensive Jenkins? Draft someone at #15?).
