Canadians never use the term "Canadian bacon". You cannot find that in a store or order that in a restaurant.

Paul points out that we call the cured pork loin rolled in peameal "peameal bacon". It's also called "back bacon", but that is less popular.

If you can get you some peameal south of the border, do so. Cut a few thin slices (like bacon), and fry it in a pan (like bacon), then quickly transfer it to a Kaiser roll with mustard and other condiments of your choice, perhaps including cheddar cheese, but never "American cheese" ( what the hell is that if not cheddar?).
You will have found yourself a new favorite sammich. Do it once or twice to get it right, then teach all the wimmins in your realm. This will make the world a better place.


The movie "Canadian Bacon" that probably started this confusion for Americans, was directed by American Michael Moore and starred Alan Alda (MASH) and Rhea Perlmann (Cheers), in supporting roles for one of the greatest Canadians ever John Candy. It was a spoof film where an unpopular American POTUS decided to start a trade war against Canada......hmmmmm.
