mock our draft

I would say there are at least some people interested in it as they opened it and posted in the thread. In a few months we will see how these guys pan out. I am looking at the speed potential of the players and like that. As to our third round project RB/WR he did make some catches on his highlight real and looked good in a couple of screen passes. Maybe this is the year our team can finally go back to running a successful screen pass. As to getting off the line the kid seems to move well in all directions and might be a nightmare to jam at the line meaning he could be open in a mere seven yards from the line. Or he could be a failed experiment.

One thing that struck me as interesting in this draft in a comical sense was the similarity to the Kansas city chiefs of old. At one point in time they had both the tallest and shortest players in the NFL on their team. I believe they were either contenders or won a championship that year. NFL films had something about this years ago, they also added something to the effect that Kansas City was made up of odd balls and cast offs from all over the league at that time was a nice story. I think it was said that we took the largest player and the smallest in this draft.

Here is what I do not get, if you are not interested in mock drafts, why open the thread?

Because "Mock our draft" sounded different than the OP turned out to be.

I'm not one to complain but this whole armchair GM thing is getting out of hand. The draft is over and our guys are selected, for better or worse. If you think you can do better, apply for a job with a team.

Deacon, I hate to be the one to say this, but mocking the Steelers mock the day after it happened has been going on at this message board FOR YEARS.

It is a ******* message board where people should be free to discuss any topic. There are plenty of topics I do not care to discuss, so I don't. Why is everyone trying to run around in an effort to limit other people's freedoms? Just click out of it.

People can do want they want, it's not my place to dictate what people can and can't do on a message board. Just the same, I have just as much right to proclaim something silly, which I think this is.

Also, there is a difference between mocking a draft (which you did with your post) and hindsight drafting.

I do agree that you have the right to proclaim it silly. Just putting it out. Carry on.

Well, once you see the direction and reasoning behind the pick, either you agree or don't. After listening to the interviews, I see the reasoning behind the picks of the guys they selected. Now, this reasoning comes from the coaches. I see why Butler wants Shazier, what he thinks he can do with him. I see why he likes the versatility of Zumwalt (played inside and outside). Mitchell was giddy over Tuitt and said things I can get on board with in regards to McCuller. I wanted Bryant, why change? I see the value in Wesley Johnson, Richardson, and Blanchflower.

The only player that I think fails to fit is Archer. People keep saying things like switch him with Bryant and he is a 4th, so there. Does not work for me because when we took a similar player (Rainey) in the 5th, I had the same damn issues. It is not the pick. It is not the value. It is the fact that he is 23-years old, at the end or near the end of his growth cycle, added weight from 150 to 175, so not likely he can continue to pack on pounds, has small hands and short arms (means a small frame), so he is what he is. And, those small guys usually fail. Well, not usually, almost always. It is almost a slam dunk, all we can hope for is fate hits the back the rim on this one. I just do not like those types of gambles. Hey, Wesley Johnson is a gamble, but he is an NFL size, NFL attributes, elite collegiate resume type of gamble. Much safer. Much more likely to payoff.

As I went back understanding the direction of this draft, looking at the numbers of some of these guys (a couple did not play to their size like Shazier and some were too big like McCullers and Tuitt-last season), I can see how the draft unfolded well. Out of the whole draft, only two I really have issues with are Archer and Zumwalt and my issues with Zumwalt are much less severe. He flashes the aggressiveness and pop, just does not show it enough.

Rainey is the name I couldn't remember this weekend! While I am on board with the Steelers FO on this draft as a whole, you would think once bitten twice shy. I too would have rather gone DB with this pick. But let's hope the FO hits a grand slam with this pick...

I was surprised sort of that we didn't take Denard in the 1st, I believe he was still available....but then again, I noticed that after Denard's official visit to Pittsburgh they continued to bring in many CB prospects, which in the back of my mind there was a little voice saying they don't think Denard is their guy. I guess that little voice was correct.

Picks 1 and 3'will be bust. Bryant will be the best player from this draft with tuitt being solid.

quite honestly I am surprised that we haven't seen a mock for 2015 yet. you guys are slacking in your mocks. I guess we will have to wait till we lose our first preseason game.

You do realize that his mock only had one player different from what we actually drafted? Not much of a mock if you ask me...

;)

From an early viewpoint, I'm thinking our needs will be CB, LT (possibly), OLB (depth) and S if Troy retires.
