Unless you are clairvoyant, you don't have the luxury of letting future events dictate decisions made in the present. I doubt anyone knew we would have been facing 4th & long while playing defense on the previous series. I'm no quantum physicist, but I suspect things would have played out a bit differently on that possession had there been more time at our disposal.

You've expressed my point exactly and better than I did that I was trying to make with Cope. You have time outs in the first half at your disposal use the damn things and that scenario when NO was about to score on that drive would have been the perfect time to use them. Of course we could not have known the result that was to follow on our next drive, but one has to wonder if we may have been more successful with additional time and not trying to rush in that last drive. Hell, maybe we gain another 5-10 yards which in most cases is a makeable FG for this guy.

Amazing, but very true. Do you think the slacking coach has anything to do with this? I think attitude and weather hurry up or no huddlw offense, is very coachable. URGANCY is a big factor in these types of offense. For the life of me, I can't figure out the lackadazicalness of this team, other than it starts at the top.

I really don't know the reason why. I just watch college teams like Oregon and St. Mary's school for the blind run the hurry up without any issues at all. I'm assuming they are always trying to get the perfect play instead of having a set of plays called that aren't quite perfect. But I don't really know.

Not on 4th down and long being the last play. They are only two options. FG or Hail Mary.

Want the real head scratcher on that sequence? Why wasn't the PI called on the first deep strike to the 9yd line? We could have used one of our TOs lined up inside the 10 at that point since we could have run or passed.

Also, the point in clock management is to be the last team with the opportunity to score by leaving no time on the clock for your opponent. So even in missing a long FG, the field position doesn't hurt our team since there is no time for the opponent to score. I'd say mission accomplished.

What about after first down three plays before the 4th down. Run the ball get closer take the time out. Having more time and then maybe just maybe getting closer was a possibility, but not when you save the time outs for half time.

The results of that series, whether they turned out good or bad, should in no way excuse the prior clock mismanagement.

Bingo. Whether it does or doesn't bite Tomlin in the butt isn't the point. It's that he's never been any good at it and essentially refuses to "acknowledge and accept" the fact that he sucks at it.

The run was working rather well over all. There is also the possibility of a short pass to get the first down and get closer. The amount of bitching would be the same no matter what happened and the site would have been fine.

Nice to know that you will ***** either way. Ben had some open WR's...If he makes some better throws or our guys make a catch down there we call a time out and kick a FG from a closer distant. Maybe even take a shot to the endzone, but as you said there still would of been some type of bitching. Im all for Tomlin leaving but to ***** just to *****....

Tomlin likes to talk situational football...but he's stupid at it. My favorite was the shot of him wanting 1 second after his garbage time TD. Yeah, Mike, you idiot, keep pulling for that second. How this team managed to win 7 games is a minor miracle. Their OL stinks, their WRs below average save for one, their QB a dunderhead, and their defense is just simply awful consisting of old and busteds that can't play anymore and young guys who don't know how or are simply unable too. Enjoy yet another .500 record of stinky averageness and watching the playoffs at home....losers.

I am intrigued by the defensive coordinator for San Diego, John Pagano (brother of Chuck Pagano). He's taken some pretty mundane squads and turned them into pretty decent defenses for them the last few seasons, and they always seem to peak at the end of the season.
