That's what seperates America and the rest of the Western democracies from dictatorships and autocracies. I'd prefer we keep it that way.
America is not a democracy. When are we going to get that fundamental fact straight?
Words matter. Noah Webster spent 28 years compiling the landmark 1828 American Dictionary and in his writings and correspondence took a contemporary to task for calling this country a "democracy" and not distinct from rot of Europe that precipitated the whole experiment.
He felt that demagogues would use and twist language to subvert freedom and morals -- hence the need for a distinctly American dictionary.
Democrats can't seem to bring themselves to support the idea of a "Republic" and the resulting linchpin of the Electoral College.
Words matter.
