My only Ben beef

I don't want BEN going anywhere else but couldn't blame him if he did. Yeterday's right after game interview showed BEN is tired of the bullshit he is being put through. His body language and verbality of standing his ground shows it.

I highly doubt he will be back playing for us or anybody else for that matter, next year.

Enjoy Monday night and the following sunday because I'm pretty sure the end of an era of STEELERS football is upon us.

The thing that bugs me about Ben is theat whenever he is calling his cadence, it is always "Blue 80" or "Blue 20." I think he should change that up.
Maybe "Blue 50"? Split the difference?

Ben is not being put through any bullshit. He choose to come back and is getting paid handsomely play. His play and inability at this point in his career to do certain things are part of the reason things look so bad.

Again, Ben has been great and I am so appreciative of the football we have gotten since 2004. But lets be honest here.

He's the QB of a team who hasn't scored a first half touchdown in five weeks. Ben has had moments of very good play this year and others where it looks like he's done. He means more to the Steelers than he would any other team. Unless there was a team out there with a great OL, strong running game, and talented receivers, I'm not sure where he would fit elsewhere.

In his prime, Ben could escape the rush and make an accurate throw on the run during plays where he was slow to recognize things.

Many of the plays that resulted in first downs or big plays five years ago are sacks or errant throws now.

Ben still has the arm talent, as his arm is not completely shot like Peyton Manning's or Drew Brees' were at the end of their careers.

The issue with Ben is that he was never the most alert QB, and was more dependent on his mobility as a result. He's not a bad decision maker, but he's never had the command of the game that several of his peers of the era have had.

I think this is bullshit. I'll rewrite it for you.

In his prime, Ben could break 3 tackles in the backfield and make an accurate throw on the run or with a passrusher hanging on him during plays where the line was incapable of giving him 1.5 seconds to throw, which was almost every pass attempt.

Many of the plays that resulted in first downs or big plays his entire career here are sacks or errant throws or throw-aways now, since he can't break tackles or run as well, and he doesn't have any receivers that don't quit on the play like Hines, Santonio, or AB.

Ben still has the arm talent, but he's almost 40 now, and he's still being pounded on by pass-rushers behind the worst line he's ever had, and that's saying a lot, because he's always been behind some god-awful piss poor lines. I'll go so far as to say, all things being equal, if we had Tom Brady instead of Big Ben, we'd still only have 4 rings, and Brady would have had a short injury riddled career (or smartly left as a free agent, like Ben probably should have for his own health early on).

The issue with Ben is that he's never had an offensive line or a coach that understood offense, so he had to break tackles, run for his life, and carry the team on his back, and now he has no running game, no reliable receivers, no protection, and he's getting old. We're lucky to have had him as our QB as long as we have.

There was about a four or five year period in the 2010s when the Steelers had one of the best pass blocking lines in the league. He also had good lines his first few years in the league.

It's not a coincidence that's when he had most of his best passing years, but even then a lot of his production came off extended plays

Ben has definitely spent a lot of his career behind weak offensive lines as well.

No one is disputing that, but despite the blocking issues, Ben's playing style contributed to a lot of those sacks/hits as well, especially early in his career.

As I said, Ben can still make the throws, but he's overall wired to play the game in a way that his body will no longer allow and it leads to a lot of the inconsistencies we have seen.

I totally disagree with that.

Remember what Ben said when he hoisted the Lombardi? "Who's laughing now, O-Line?" That's because they sucked, and we won it all in spite of that. Twice.

In the 2010's for a few years when the sack numbers went down, Ben dumped it off to Leveon Bell whenever he saw the rush coming, which was so often that Bell was putting up WR numbers, and... well, we know where that ended up. Bell thought he should bet paid like a RB and WR put together. But Bell was masterful at sneaking out and getting open for what amounted to a swing pass. Najee will have to learn that skill, and I'm sure he will. Bell's running style made the run blocking look a lot better than it was, too, the way he stood behind a stalemated DeCastro or Gilbert waiting for a defender to commit. Nobody was getting blown off the ball or opening holes then, either.

AS I watched another replay of the game I see the major factor with Ben,,, a line that cannot give him time and way more than not they collapse around Ben where he cannot step into the ball. Last night three times before Ben could hand the ball off or turn around to throw three players had a hold of him. Also, more than not receivers either do not have the time to run a good route or they just plane cannot separate to where they actually are open. Ben is the bad guy no matter what we all think yet the play calls make zero sense when we continue to have to go 80 yards or more. Kc QB could have run three plays with the amount of time he has to throw the ball, Ben has no time

Meh.....I watch Brady stand in the pocket and go through all his progressions multiple times until he throws the ball. Maholmes had an unlimited amount of time against us. Rogers with a banged up OL has forever to find his WR. I wonder what Ben could do behind a OL that he knows will provide him protection? I wonder how ANY other QB would fair behind our OL? To think our ownership and front office along with our coaching staff felt good going into the season with what we had on the OL is simply a joke.

Mahomes and Rodgers can move, Ben cannot anymore. They'd have issues behind the Steelers line, but something tells me the Steelers would not be five games into a streak of no first half TDs if they had one of those two at QB.

Brady? My initial thought is he would get destroyed in this offense, but then I think of all the short checkdown/screen-based passing Canada calls and wonder if Brady would actually thrive in that ****.

It plays more into his strengths than Ben's to be honest.

I don't think the owner is as hands on as his dad was. Don't make a mistake in thinking he doesn't know football because he does. I just think maybe he isn't as hands on as he should be.

t*mmyb*y or buck rogers would be broken in two if they played behind this line..........................

The difference is, back then those dump-offs to Bell were usually checkdowns, after Ben had gone through his progressions and that play became the best option. Now, for whatever reason, in this offense these short passes to Najee evidently are designed as the primary target, and Ben throws them regardless of the coverage from the defense, which is usually sleeping bag tight. He doesn't even look anywhere else on the field for a single fraction of a second before firing it to Najee two yards behind the line of scrimmage, with two or three guys ready to jump on him immediately.

In Ben's prime, he made our OL look better than they were as he was able to move around and throw on the run better than almost any QB in history. He masked any problems the OL had. He just made things happen. Ben doesn't make things happen as he used to although he still is able to roll out and run for a few yards if he sees a mack truck-sized opening. The OL is horrendous and Ben is taking more and bigger hits than at any time in his career. He is not able to hide this OL's flaws. It is amazing he hasn't been knocked out for the year. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again. If this OL were even average, Ben, Najee, and the O would not be having these problems scoring.

Ben could still win if he had the right weapons. The Steelers had the best offense in the league a few years ago. The cheap *** Rooneys wanted to flex and tried to save money instead of keeping a great team together.
Every player on the offense is clearly second rate except for Pat Freiermuth. He's the only receiver that can catch, the running game is non existent, still, and the playcalling is bottom of the league as well.
I don't blame Ben, or even Tomlin on alot of levels, for the fact that the Rooneys sold out the Steelers, players, coaches, and fans.
This is what saving money looks like in the NFL.
(This is in no way shape or form a Mike Tomlin endorsement)

This is incorrect Ben has all the weapons necessary. What he doesn't have is a line capable of blocking for the 4 ypc Najee could get. If they had that it would be a top 10 ten offense but it still wouldn't be enough cause they are weak up the middle on D. That is death.
