Myles Garrett: Your Defensive Player of the Year (?) - Playoff Edition

This is the stat everyone needs to look at, when the team was making a playoff push, he was invisible.

Evidently, invisibility is “in”.!!!

Salute the nation

I wonder if the wildcat changed rules of TFL vs. Sack. To me first person getting the ball TFL it's a sack.
No the difference also applies to QBs. If the intent is to run, there can be no sack, even on a TFL, so no sack is ruled.

I think that may be how Watt had 2.5 sacks taken away vs the Bengals and Cardinals

It's all subjective. The biggest issue for Watt this year is they seem to be giving more weight to pressures instead of sacks and other real statistics. A pressure is the most subjective stat they use. Consider in the Clowns loss. There was a play designed to let Garrett or whoever get through and then get a quick shovel pass/screen out. The play worked well but since Garrett got reasonably close to Stroud, he was given a pressure. If the play is designed to let the D through, then whoever subjectively gives out the pressure should realize the play called and not give a pressure. Garrett being let through had no negative impact on the play.

He leads Garrett in QB pressures too.

Then WTF could the morons picking him ahead of TJ for All Pro and DPOY be thinking? It truly is bizarre. There is no reasoning or justification you can make to say Garrett is better than Watt and therefore DPOY. This should be Watt's 3rd DPOY but he probably won't see more than the one he did get.

I have no idea at all. Sacks, it's Watt 19 to 14, Tackles it's 68 to 42 Watt, Solo it's 44 to 30 Watt, FF they both have 4, FR is 3 to 1 Watt, Pass Def. 8 to 3 for Watt, TFL is 19 to 17 for Watt, QB Hits 36 to 30 for Watt, and Watt has an INT, Myles doesn't.

And every stat above has zero opinion or interpretation to it. Like QB hits is a real stat. He inflicted punishment on the QB without getting penalized. No room for discussion.

All I can do is shake my head. It just makes no sense whatsoever.

Oh, it makes sense. The NFL and associated media decided that Garrett had gone too long without a DPOY to justify calling him a "future Hall Of Famer" like they do. So, THIS was THE YEAR he was going to get one. Whether he actually earned it or not.

He's never even received a vote for DPOY from what I've heard.

Watt leads the NFL in sacks and QB pressures, among the 2 everyone seem to be talking about and the two that have the highest odds on winning DPOY (Garrett and Parsons) Watt leads them in every catergory

Steeler stars do not get recognized like others. While there are exceptions like AB, Ben was repeatedly passed over for MVP/AllPro/ProBowl honors while lesser flavor of the time guys got the nod. Old Slice Ray Ray was continually showered with praise and DPOY while Troy and Deebo starred and were lesser recognized. Hines Ward never took a play off, redefined the WR position and had great stats.....not even a HoF finalist.

But stains and cowgirls marketing departments have been messaging and spoonfeeding the talking heads for months. Hell, if Garrett wins the award should go to their marketing department. Factory of Fiction!
