"Najee Harris ain't it". NAJEE 3.0 It's time to go, yo....

And we all know, No way in Hell Tomlin makes such a drastic change like the Rats did, Tomlin is to stubborn to do that.
Yep.

It wouldn't have made sense at the time for us either. Again, hard to say but you have to respect Harbaugh for having the balls to go all in on a bet with a low probability of success.

But it's certainly survivorship bias. If it doesn't work out, I'd probably be talking about how stupid it was.

He wouldn't be coaching anymore if that didn't work

The thing I noticed is that he was running through holes that even Najee may have gotten to in time.
Yes, but unlike Najee he actually saw the holes. Najees lack of vision was his greatest weakness. Not his speed. The play calling for him was also not his friend, but he still failed to cutbacks. Sounds like I am dogging him, but I think despite his issues he was good back but not the right back for what we tried to do with him considering those shortcomings.

Different times. At the time, Harbaugh was considered on the hot seat. A desperate move that paid off, but one that is only made out of desperation.

I think the play calling for him was his biggest setback, along with playing behind a garbage line for most of his time in the burgh. His lack of vision was also a huge problem. I didn't have as big an issue with the lack of speed because he made up for it with power when he was on his game, which is what you expect more from a back with his size. I don't know if the Chargers is the right fit for him, but I do think that he could succeed as a starter in the right system.

We had Ben and Bradshaw for a combined 32 or whatever of those years.
I've done this several times and went back through the drafts of the 90's and looked who was available when we picked, we didn't pass on anyone that turned out to be great in round 1 or even really good. The 90's drafts overall was very poor when it comes to QB's: 90-Jeff George and Adre Ware, 91-Dan McGwire and Todd Marinovich, 92-David Klingler and Tommy Maddox, 93-Bledsoe and Rick Mirer, 94-Heath Schuler and Trent Dilfer, 95-Steve McNair and Kerry Collins, 96-Tony Banks and Bobby Hoying, 97-Jim Drunkenmiller and Jake Plummer, 98-Manning and Leaf, 99-Couch and McNabb.
Those are the top two QB's in each draft of the 90's.

I was just meaning swinging more at QBs in general, not just the first round…but it would be ok if they have a guy they love to target him and move up rather than sitting on their hands and waiting. But yeah sitting at their draft position the guys that were there in the first were no gems for sure…solid post brother.

I just feel that they go through periods of neglecting the most important position in the game and that simply leads to strings of wasted seasons…but so does extending a coach that has zero clue how to win in the playoffs in today’s NFL so I guess it matter not.

Yep you might as well build the trenches and swing at QBs while picking the BPA of needs. Not only is it a good approach but this team really isn’t a player away, ditto Tomlin. So in this regard trading down and up in the draft is warranted if needed.

I would be less inclined to trade down with a team closer to greatness with talent and the right coach.

I fully expect next years draft will be a trade up.

Yeah it's hard to to evaluate anything with this team or even get that excited anymore with Tomlin as Head Coach.

Hind sight gives us that luxury, thus the Tomlinships Groundhog Day comments.

Couldn’t agree more!
It’s very hard to set blocks when ya lack vision.

That was one superior trait Bell had that made his entire career. Great field vision allowing him to set blocks and be patient.

Najee lacked the vision to set blocks or find creases and the burst to gain the edge.

So while he was a steady production high usage back and good teammate by all accounts he lacked the skill set to ever be better than a 4 ypc back on this team.

So we are back to what we were last season. That is if A-Aron signs. Vet SB winning qb with one legit WR. Teams will again stack the box. Hopefully as you and others believe our rookie RBs vision will be the difference when running against these stacked boxes. So what are we shooting for? Harris averaged 4 yards a carry. Are we looking for 4.5 or 5 yards a pop now for Johnson? Dare I say 5.5 yards a carry or even 6? Are we looking at 1500 yards for him? What are the expectations?

I know if we evolve our Offense a bit it could/would help.

I would love to see Johnson come in and beast out. I just believe it has to be more than his vision for it to happen. Our Offense has to change and evolve. And that is on Tomlin.

And that is where I have my doubts.

Hopefully I am wrong. I have been hoping for years now though.☹️

You know this: Our O will not change, it will be the same predictable offense it has been for 8 years, nothing has or will change with Clown-lin in charge.

Glad to see you're back and healthy, keep up the good work defending the shield.

I would expect the rookie in the 4.25-4.4 range.

This is taking into account the serious limitations of this squad/coaching we’ve discussed in great detail.

Obviously this will not be enough to get the Tomlin “led” team over any sort of hump.

I think Metcalf will be a decent downgrade and hard to gauge what Rudy will even be allowed to do (may be another downgrade) as Mikey’s butt cheeks seem to pucker tighter with every passing season.

If both Metcalf and Rudy do end up being downgrades it puts them squarely in the praying the ball bounces right more frequently and hope for 8-8-1 territory…we’re do for some good bounces this year right? It may be the Steelers only hope of salvaging the next precious Tomlinship.

I read this is the first year we will go into a season minus our starting QB, WR and RB from the previous season. Crazy. Some say Tomlin/Omar have a plan. Going off of the last 2 seasons it sure doesn't look like they have one.

Remember that ONE game when they threw to the middle of the field? That will be the extent of the "new plan." They will throw on a few 1st downs and then that will be it: It will be back to rushing every 1st and 2nd down, throwing short or incomplete on 3rd and punting. That's it. Enjoy. As we head into the playoffs (if we are that lucky), it will be Clown-lin's run every 1st and 2nd, incompletion on 3rd, punt on 4th play book, lose 5 straight. That's all we get til he's gone.

Yeah. I just don't know anymore. From Pickett year one to year two I thought Tomlin would expand the offense. Open it up a bit more. Nope. Enter Fields and Russ. Again. Optimistic that we would open up the offense a bit. Again....nope. Now Rudy and possibly A-Aron. I have zero belief that we change our offense. I am counting on myself being wrong. Odds are though ....I am right. Unfortunately.

I only see the A-Aron following the path of Ben Roethlisberger as for deviating from the Tomlin scheme.

Although apparently the A-Aron has say over personnel even though he is not on the team. This may result in the increased pull he will have once actually signed…………………..

I think we can all agree even as a third rounder if he came in here and averaged 3.9 ypc we would all be disappointed.

It's like "How often are we going to be proven 100% wrong?" It's now so ingrained there is no denying it anymore. Clown-lin is going to coach with pea-his-pants fear, end of story. There is nothing new forthcoming. He coaches in total fear, there ain't gonna be anything new heading our way. He coaches in total fear. Afraid of turnovers. He's a total wussy. It's what we have to deal with until Art and Clown-lin are gone.
