I ain't listening to that ****...Gonna watch the kid myself....That wasn't a comment directed toward Litos, but rather the actual "Steelers writers" who I saw on X comparing Johnson to Najee.
They have some great scouting reports leading up to the draft.I ain't listening to that ****...Gonna watch the kid myself....
Hey if anyone is interested this BLEACHER REPORT draft coverage today on YOUTUBE is pretty cool...These guys did their homework from what I can tell so far
Loving this pick...Naj 3.0 is now the #2 back behind OMARION HAMPTON...Najee was good at that didn't show up on the stat sheet was pass pro. He eventually got passed by Warren here, but I think that's because Warren is elite at this, not that Najee isn't good. Najee is probably also a better receiver out of the backfield
My guess is that he'll at least be useful in a platoon.RB is a crapshoot considering a 60/40 1st rd bust rate. Sometimes teams steal guys late, guys like Bucky Irving #125, Kyren Williams #164, Bell at #48.
He wasn't anyone's first choice but Kalebs size is usually a plus. North south guy with vision, patience and acceleration but no top gear. His tape does look like he plays faster than he tests and he seems to have ridiculous feel and anticipation at the second level in space. Like a poor mans Bell without the insane lateral agility. Close to Bell's size, fits the scheme well, and isn't 5'8 is a plus as we already have 2 guys in that frame. I think the Steelers got good value as nobody projected him to go after the 3rd and many people had him ranked much higher.
I like that he's not a fumbler and that he was 50% of Iowa offensive production, avg 143 yd/game is ridiculous when the defense knows its going to him.
Pickens and Metcalf should back the defenses off and let this kid eat, I'm pumped
Sounds like Johnson is expected to be better in a zone scheme. With the potential for much better vision / decision making than what we say with Najee.I think anyone comparing Johnson to Najee is just making a lazy comparison based on size alone. Most actual draft analysts have the two as quite different backs and I think you highlighted his upside very nicely in your latest post!
Seems like a reasonably late round pick.EWERS ANYONE? I watched a couple of his games...He won both & was in control of the game & kept ARCH MANNING on the bench
I felt if he held off ARCH MANNING he must be good & he did...He held off next years #1 so he is better than next year's #1
That's my Scouting Report![]()

yesterdays news...WE GOT WILL HOWARD...What you think of the pick Bro?What position on D was he playing?
Meh. Howard is a clipboard holder if he is lucky. Rodgers is our guy. SB contenders apparently. Russ made us SB contenders last season though also. Hopefully our board experts on the subject are right this season.yesterdays news...WE GOT WILL HOWARD...What you think of the pick Bro?
I don't think anyone seriously thinks were SB contenders.Meh. Howard is a clipboard holder if he is lucky. Rodgers is our guy. SB contenders apparently. Russ made us SB contenders last season though also. Hopefully our board experts on the subject are right this season.

Our ownership and management believes these QB's makes us SB contenders or they wouldn't bring them in. No?I don't think anyone seriously thinks were SB contenders.
I don't think there was any path we could have taken this offseason to get us to more than the "compete for a WC and likely to be outclassed against one of the many high end QBs in the AFC".
So instead, we're building the big uglies on the team. I think this is a good strategy in general. These guys tend to play for a long time. So getting them as early pieces of the rebuild / retool seems like a good idea.
Because it's the mission statement of the team to "compete every year", I don't think we're going to let Mason be our day 1 starter if we can help it. So I think we'll sign Rodgers. And he'll be our Wilson / Fields QB this year. A guy who's been given up by someone else, but is still probably somewhere around average.
I'd go with "no" on this one.Our ownership and management believes these QB's makes us SB contenders or they wouldn't bring them in. No?
Yep.Is that marks son?
If they truly don't believe ...Russ last season and AArod this season don't make us contenders(whether if it actually does or doesn't)then this franchise is running rudderless.I'd go with "no" on this one.
They aren't every going to say "we think this guys gives us a slightly better chance of not getting blown out in the WC round than Mason does" or something like that.
But I don't think anyone under truth serum would think that bringing in Rodgers gives us a good chance to beat the Ravens, Bills, and KC in the playoffs (or whatever route we'd end up getting).
Personally, I don't know if bringing in Rodgers improves our chances much at all vs. Rudolph based on his 2 most recent seasons in NY. I think he probably "should" be better...if he can play a season. But I don't think the difference is all that consequential.
I would personally want us to roll with Mason. It's probably worse. But worse in the short term isn't bad for this team IMO. We need to get a QB. And being worse than normal this season is probably a good way to do that. Particularly since we might be in some kind of situation to put together a package to move up.
And I'd imagine that they want to draft a QB early when the draft is in town (which I think is probably a stupid reason)
Or maybe it's just that franchise QBs don't grow on trees. And you can't click your heels together and say "there's no QB like Ben" three times to make one appear. If they truly don't believe ...Russ last season and AArod this season don't make us contenders(whether if it actually does or doesn't)then this franchise is running rudderless.
And signing old used up qbs to get another Tomlinship just keeps us in our own groundhog day scenerio.Or maybe it's just that franchise QBs don't grow on trees. And you can't click your heels together and say "there's no QB like Ben" three times to make one appear.
Moving from Mason and Kenny to Russ and Fields last year was an upgrade.
Looks like we wanted to keep Fields but didn't want to give him what's practically a $30MM, 1 year contract.
Looks like we didn't want to bring Russ back. Which makes me wonder why we didn't go back to Fields at the end of last season.
When you don't have a QB, try stuff to find a QB.
Best chance (which still isn't great) is to draft one early (ideally very early). If you can't do that, cycling through guys to see if you can catch lightning in a bottle doesn't seem like a terrible idea IMO.
But I also think it's a good idea to have realistic expectations.
And even if we got our 1st choice at QB (Fields IMO), we wouldn't be contenders. And I think the fact that we weren't willing to pay more than the deal he got suggests that we (the team) already know this.
Now we have Rodgers out there talking about playing for $10MM. I think we'll end up giving him closer to $20MM / year (1 or 2 years). But his starting price was $40MM. And just like with Fields, if we thought he'd make us SB contenders, we'd happily pay that. Who wouldn't offer any of the top 4 or 5 QBs in the AFC $40MM / year (even the top 8 QBs).
If we were in the NFC, we'd maybe be competitive to get to the divisional round with Rodgers. Maybe that's why he reportedly would really like to go to an NFC team. But the AFC has a murderers row of the best QBs in the league. And we aren't sniffing a Lombardy (or even a Hunt) trophy with Rodgers, Fields, or Mason IMO.
We'll be competitive for a playoff spot. And if we can get lightning to strike, maybe we make the divisional round. I'd say "if we score a DTD in the WC game". But we did that with end-of-career Ben and still got blown out against KC.
I wouldn't be upset about a rebuilding year. And signing old used up qbs to get another Tomlinship just keeps us in our own groundhog day scenerio.
It took us a losing season to land Ben.
It's about the bumber 200.I wouldn't be upset about a rebuilding year.
If it were up to me, I'd roll with Mason.
Although if his years with the Jets are any judge, maybe signing Rodgers gets us a higher pick than starting Rudolph.
But it's pretty clear that the mission statement of this team (which comes from the owner) is to try to make the playoffs every year.
I disagree on that. I think they know unless they catch lightning in a bottle A A ron just keeps us competitive until they find a long-term solution. Howard has a very outside chance of being the guy but will at least be a good backup replacing Mason after next year. They kept all their extra picks and are set to make a big move if needed next year. I see a definite plan here and not a terrible one. It is a gamble but it always is. A A ron has mentored players before to a degree. If they truly don't believe ...Russ last season and AArod this season don't make us contenders(whether if it actually does or doesn't)then this franchise is running rudderless.
