NFL team ranking “Draft Grades”

While the draft is a crap shoot i can't remember a draft where people were pretty much all aligned on it being a great draft. If the picks don't pan out then so be it, but I don't think there should be much second guessing on who we got. Most places i have seen had the eagles or Steelers near the top. If our top 2 picks work out i would consider it successful

Very true jitter77, if two picks end up as starters then I’d consider it a successful draft. I’m thinking we end up with three full fledge starters and some contributors.

Obviously not a ‘74 draft (a someone indicated that) but hey, still very good to this point.

My thinking is that draft grades have no relevance to how the player will pan out in the NFL. No one knows so it would be silly to give grades for that.

I believe the grades are only meant to evaluate a team on things such as being able to fill their needs, the quality of the players selected., and "steals" of the draft.

The Steelers filled their needs... with quality players, and apparently that TE Washington was a steal. Thats an A+ baby!

Whether they pan out is a different story.

Lol post draft grades are more to justify draftniks spending 8 jillion hours trying to rate players with a third of the resources available to teams than actually rating what the teams did do

Speaking of what teams did. I saw footage of the Dallas war room and they were debating Mazi. Which I wondered if their comparisons were equal to the O-Lineman they were debating. Just an odd exchange (you had to see it - on good morning football) one guy said they hadn't addressed the position in awhile. Then Jerry got on the phone. I was thinking man way to take the GM and head coach away from the moment not to mention that phone conversation was weird too.

WhoAly sheeeeeeIIIT……..

Love it and direct to the point, tying something new Supe???? (J/K)

Like I said it is subjective and I’m pretty sure everyone here knows none of the draftees have played a single down in the NFL.

All that being said, remember that none of the other team’s draftees have played a down either.

I was trying to show that the STEELERS played their cards and emotions correctly in this draft. I can’t think of a single better ”played” draft, under Coach Tomlin’s tenure, that was played better.

Trade has been rejected like another future ex Mz Ogurr

I went into the draft being happy if Porter fell to them at 17, while fully expecting the top 3 OTs to go within the first 10 picks like they always do.

For Jones to fall enough for them to move up without giving up one of the seconds was huge, as it allowed them to address their other two big needs early and Porter still being there at 32 was icing on the cake.

Obviously, the players have to prove it on the field, but given what we know now, it's hard to justify not giving this draft an A.

Speaking of draft grades I think the other Pennsylvania team that did well according to most reports should have received a, "buyer beware". Not just because their first pick had minor off the field concerns but with the manner that Georgia distributes defensive snaps. They heavily sub in and out players on defense. With that, it makes you wonder if those defensive selections will hold up with more reps in a longer season.

As someone else pointed out, and I agree with, immediate draft grades and necessarily evaluating what these players will become. I look at it as did the team address areas of need and get good value from the draft positions. I think the Steelers maximized the draft with both, particularly locking down their top two (arguably three) needs at premium positions. Anderson was the only off-the-board type pick, but that late teams are looking for depth pieces and Anderson has a chance to find a job at multiple positions. The combination of college production, upside, and need gives this draft an A.

By comparison, Detroit would get a much lower grade because of position value. It reminds me of the Steelers 2021 draft. I liked Harris and Freiermuth as players, but hated the value. RB, TE, and ILBs are some of the worst early-round investments and those are the top three positions Detroit took. If your trenches are built and you have a QB and pass rusher, then you can take those luxury positions to help put you over the top. Maybe the Lions think they're on the brink.

I mean grading a draft has to take a lot into account… take Dallas this year… I honestly like their draft… in a vacuum they took a ton of players that I, and a lot of people here, liked a lot. Now every draft grading group gives them terrible grades… for instance CBS graded them the absolute worst in the league… because tgeir draft strategy was to target the guys tgey wanted and draft them at least a round higher than they were projected to go…

It is a legit strategy, but you are absolutely losing the asset value grades… now none of that matters if it leads to wins on the field… if Mazi Smith ends up as one of the best DTs in the league, does it really matter that his average grades were a mid second rounder?

Same thing with Houston… they blast them for reaching to get Juice Scruggs in the second when he was at best a low 4th round guy on everyone’s board… they were convinced he was a future starter at a position of need and didn’t want to miss out on him.. yeah you are effectively losing out on what you could have gotten for trading down, but then you risk losing him… so if you are comfortable on the asset loss( its no different than trading up to get your guy, in a way) then you do this… but drafniks will explode about it, lol

So, I can point at the rust spots on the LS10.

You can, but be careful what kind of pointer you use when pointing at the rust spot on Christina (.)(.) … a little lower ……
