Article talks about how most of the offensive players want O'Canada fired. Coach Tomlin has a decision to make.

Remember Coach Tomlin is quoted " If we listen to the fans, we will be sitting with the fans". There is truth to that statement but I think this ship of O'Canada has voyaged into something regardless of what the fans are saying................. O'Canada has allienated past players and teams while working for them, part of why he is in the booth on game day.

NOTE: This is the first article I've come across outright stating player's view so thought new thread, can merg if needed

Other than the Claypool comment, the article doesn't say much, but I suspect most of the players don't want their thoughts made public.

Tomlin may not want to listen to the fans, but I wonder what his mindset would be if Art II and the minority owners expressed their opinion.

Drink, what would be most interesting to me is what the hell is Art thinking about now? He must be hearing this discontent and frustration from players and fans and most likely the front office staff. And he sees the ineptitude on a weekly basis so you have to think he’s getting very impatient with this mess. Tomlin will continue to talk around the issue but Art can force his hand and he’s the only one with that authority. I don’t believe Omar and Andy could or would override Tomlin.

I hear what you are saying. I also don't think Coach Tomlin is going to address the "root" problem during the season.

They may come out and move the ball against the Jets but I'll be watching as to how they move the ball and the play calling to see what is different or just a weak defensive opponent (jets).

That middle of the field has become very important real-estate to this need for us to move forward. It's amazing how much it opened up after Muuuth caught that one over the middle. It's there, we just need to exploit it and we have the horses to do so. The OC play calling seems to be the hold back part.

As for Art 2, he doesn't seem to hands on but I would hope you are right in that respects of him privately talking to Tomlin. I know Art 2 is way smart businessman, but he is also attuned to NFL football as well, more than some here think.

Whatever the combination of getting offensive production I am for so let's make it happen

I would expect Mitch and this offense to put it in gear and have a pretty good game against the Jets who are a bad team. If we continue to struggle against this team, then they have to start making changes.
I don’t expect much from Mitch the following four games as these are going to be very tough contests. I think from what we’ve seen thus far of Mitch he looks to be no more than a bottom tier QB. He’s not the type of QB to take the team on his shoulders and will them to a win. I think Mitch’s place in the NFL is as a backup. He lacks consistency, overall field vision, locks onto his receivers, seems unsure of himself and plays scared. All of which surprises me since I gave him more credit than I suppose I should have. Thought he did fairly well in Chicago and was saddled with bad coaching and appears same here too but he has to play better and be more consistent.

So if the HC does not insist on firing this lousy OC, then he is committed to throwing the entire season in the trash. Because it is absolutely going in the can if he doesn't. Unless he has his hands too much in the offense, then he should fire himself from those duties.

While I hope that this is true, I have not yet seen any quotes, etc., that make this seem true, apart from the soft comments of the players about play calls.

These guys are professional athletes. They can play better, and want to be winners. Let's hope it's true.

Canada's pulling down just a bit more than - or the same amount as - the average veteran's minimum salary.

absolutely zero excuse to keep him on staff

Tomlin never looks at a play chart ( other coaches do), Tomlin never looks at the computer...others do. He trusts Canada to call tricky, motion plays. Or maybe Canada calls plays over the middle all day and Tomlin vetoes. This is what we get. Mike Tomlin football.

We don’t live in our fears. We just need to get back in the lab. Obviously we have to get better. We’re unleashing hell in October. The standard is always the standard. The next man up.
I’m so sick and tired of hearing this bs year in and year out. Sixteen years here now and nothing has changed.

**** we’ve been doing about this all wrong
I hadn’t heard that quote from Shades

Now I’m not sure if we the fans should start the resign Canada movement, the don’t fire Canada movement or the please don’t retire/leave us Tomlin movement

Maybe all 3???

Hashing fire canada?

Right there with ya
Thought CHI with their poor QB history and weak coaching was the root of the problem

Seems Mitch may have been to blame as well, sure hasn’t shown a damn thing here yet

I hear yaz Supe but you've been here long enough to know that O'Canada will serve out his contract and then fade off into the sunset at years end.

Tomlin could make a statement by firing him now and ................. that's just it............. he would probably promote with-in and possibly not change much scheme wise, keeping us near in the same boat. Maybe he (Tomlin) gets lucky and the new Play Caller actually can call and scheme using this system to get something that will work (best scenario).

Lastly, if Coach Tomlin has had his hand in it to this point, then he needs to remove it and let new guy sink or swim but I'm betting they swim.

Its like Marty ball without the running game or the lead.

If Tomlin fires Canada now, and the offense doesn’t improve, he doesn’t have a scapegoat at the end of the season.

This story feels a little exaggerated but there is no way the guys on the team can feel good scoring four offensive TDs in three weeks.

Yeah, you wait on Art ll to tell Tomlin to fire Canada. lol
I laugh not because he couldn't tell Tomlin to do it, or do it himself; but rather, because Art ll doesn't allow coaches under contract to be fired. He waits until their contracts have ended and then doesn't renew them. Tomlin could want to fire Canada (not saying he does), but it Canada isn't going anywhere until that contract is up.

This is my thinking. Right now Tomlin has job security by having Canada and /or Mitch as scape goats. If he was really smart he would bench mitch and start kenny. Kenny would have the built in excuse of being a rookie. Next year they could extend canada and if the offense struggles next year canada could be the scapegoat. Canda gets fired end of year and new coord comes in. The offense still stinks, but "its a new system." If Tomlin plays his cards right he gets 3 more yrs of excuses

I would make the change to KP before giving Canada the boot. Mitch does not see the field, so he is the bigger of the two problems. Start with canning Mitch and hold canning Canada in reserve.

Klemm quit mid season last year because of Canada and of course it was kept quite as to why he quit. I don’t have a problem with Tomlin firing randy and hiring Canada he’s the head coach but if you’re the general and you tell the troops take that hill, then as a general, your expected to die on that hill with your troops. We all know tomlin ain’t going to die on that hill just like he didn’t die on the BA hill, he didn’t die on the randy hill, he won’t die on this Canada hill… its must be great to never have to answer for your *** ups. And dont look now but we got a big one brewing up on the defense as well… we have a very high payroll on defense to be locked up on one player and we can’t stop the run! every team in our division can run the ball we can’t stop any of them. starting pickett is a no brainer he was the best player in training camp… PERIOD! But what are they going to do to fix the defense?

Unfortunately, when you lock up a superstar to a mega contract, it destroys your ability to field a respectable team beside them. I would have hated to see TJ move on to another team, but these players just don’t understand that they would get more by taking less.

Most defensive oriented coaches don’t. Belichick doesn’t. (he does keep a log of which ref calls the penalties on what player), Vrabel doesn’t. Lovie Smith didn’t in Chicago. Pete Carroll in Seattle doesn’t. Cowher never did.

I personally don’t think Canada route trees in the middle of the field includes any receivers except for the slot, TE or RB. His route trees are so boring, unimaginative and friggin predictable. He doesn’t run slants or cross pick type routes with all his motions, and deceptive BS. All he uses it for is sweeps, bubble screens and kick out passes on the weak side hoping to catch a DB or LB mismatch. Having said all that some of the blame goes to Mitch, he’s not seeing wide open receivers as he is trying to avoid mistakes. He’s has to do job one, complete the pass. Let the skill players create after the catch.

Not sure if this was pointed out before, but here is MT passing in his last start in Chicago vs his last game against the Browns. The Steelers really hate throwing towards the middle of the field.
