who is the NT you want to eventually be groomed in for Heyward as a run stiffer with less pass rush.
if you have Adams and Leal as your ends you need a big gap eater to let Adams clog as a 5T and Leal to be Dual.
Based on current Rankings

1 Mazi Smith 6"3 340 UM- A absolute force in the middle hard to move and agile to get in the backfield, could have the impact as Eddie Goldman
2 Siaki Ika*, NT 6"4 350- Massive force but very likely a 2 dowl DL could be a forced to clogg the middle to let Jack and whoever is next to him roam free. Said to be like Dontari Poe solid vs the run offers little to nothing pass rush.
3 bryan barsee- Offers some athletic agility is sort of a tweener at 6"5 300 whether he could handle being a NT or would be better a 3t or 5t
4 Keondre Coburn squatty has a frame but needs work, kind like Adams who was drafted high but found his groove as an NT 2 -3 years later, can't hurt in the 6th.
5 DJ Dale 6"3 310 pure NT needs work, worth a flyer late day 3.

I would take Smith or Ika I think they would us let rest Cam and keep him fresh so in key drives he is fresh

I'm ok with an.inside big high pick. But he has to be a three down player. You can't spend a 1st on a guy who can be forced off the field by formation.

Ifr they can resign Obyonekanobi (sp), the OL remains the priority. I’m not against DL help but it will come down to who is available and at what pick.

Smith and Ika could settle in to a place on this team.

FA signings will give a better indication on how they want the draft to go.

Salute the nation

The Steelers haven't had a true nose tackle since Casey Hampton. They don't care about the position and I don't think that changes in this draft either.
I'm thinking that specific type player may not be coming back. You have to be able to play 3 dows now. They can trap players on or off by formations tempo.

Id like them to take Ika, bit unless their draft priorities changed they won’t spend the 2nd on a 2 down NT… when Tomlin came on board he deprioritized fullbacks and true NT’s… he likes hybrids, which don’t really stop the run like they need to

I would love Coleman in the 6th round .

What i think they will do is draft yet another DT/DE type, move Cam inside and expect leal and loudermilk to make a big leap…

I'm surprised no mention of Keeanu Benton, looks and plays like Heyward, I love Benton at 49, 6'5 315lbs, good length, he's built exactly how the Steelers like em

thanks for bringing this up.. In the playoffs there were stoppages due to substitutions... What is the rule? I never understood.

The wild card in that is new GM's, one with a past history of helping build the trenches. I mean I think it won't be a round 1 or 2's for as mentioned what time they would spend on the field. But anything past that we'll see if the new sheriff says not so fast...

I wouldn't put Bryan at NT.

Now Dexter and Pickens are two less talked about NTs that very well could be in play say in round 3 or 4. In those rounds one might be less worried if they are subbed in on passing downs.

Adams isnt the answer at NT. Neither is cam.
Leal will be starting come august at LT.
We dont have a true NT on the roster.
Something that has been painfully obvious with our run D

Man I miss Big Snack, miss Hargrave too (should of kept him over Tuitt obviously)

Really hope the new FO can place a value on controlling both LOS and be allowed by the Shaded one to fulfill their vision without obstruction

Ika is currently rated highest but Smith is an athletic freak. I'd take either but I'm leaning toward Smith as he may have the greater upside as a pass rusher due to his athleticism. If he tests well at the combine, as expected, he could jump Ika in most ratings and mocks.

Ika is pass rush capable too. I think his weight is his biggest concern.

I think you can get a Ricky Slade, Jerrod Clark or even PJ Mustipher as an UDFA and do a good enough job at NT for us. If we had a 5th we probably could grab Brodric Martin who should be a pretty unmovable object in the middle of a defense.

Hargrave isn’t a nt he was getting destroyed and was replaced by Tyson he was then mostly a de in the nickel and dime and successful. He was converted 3t to 1t which failed as his best trait for South Carolina was pass rushing via speed and the type of scheme Philly has lets him play to his assets. Had we gotten him he would be wasted as a 34 nt unless he was a de and strictly under t

If the offense subs the defense gets opportunity. But the offense can use formation and flexible skill players to change quickly with no sub.

yes ,, i knew they can catch a defense on the field with a run package vs. a dime etc... I just didnt catch why the refs were stopping play.

Maybe its time to move to a 4-3?

True Noses are going the way of the dinosaur..

Personally --- I think 90 would excel as the SAM.
