No, they won't. If in fact the United States imposes a $10/barrel tax on petroleum produced in the United States, then Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia get a $10 advantage in the world market for their oil. They in fact can pump up their own prices and still increase sales. It is a recipe for making sure that those oil-rich countries increase their sales and revenues.

Meanwhile, American companies and the thousands of employees who make a living off oil exploration, generation, refinement, and sales - oil well workers, truck drivers, automobile manufacturing, automobile sales, and the thousands of repair people who make a living off those trades - will suffer. Employees will lose their jobs - high-paying jobs that include retirement, medical insurance, etc.

Your idea is to increase oil revenues for some of our biggest enemies, while hurting Americans who are making a good living and paying their bills in some of the better-paying jobs in the country.

In any event, outside the one T-bone described, I'd bet most of their "subsidies" are the same things that other companies can deduct.

It was more than that. Simplisticaly, it allowed oil companies deductions for -something-. No big deal, so far. However, once those costs are recouped, the companies get to continue taking deductions for expenses they never had. I can't remember what the -something- was, but I think it had to do with wells that never produced. Overall, they are not getting normal busine expense deductions in this instance and it was only applicable to oil companies. The way he described it (more detail) it is clearly excessive.

The oil tax would simply be passed on to the customers in higher prices..... This is just another way to try to increase profitability of renewables and natural gas, both of which are tanked right now... Natural Gas plants are buying gas at a buck or so because of the glut due to cheap oil... Its hurting a lot of dem backed companies.... The cheap prices are great for America as a whole, but are absolutely killing certain groups profitability...
