offseason moves, what would you do?

It's not a pressing need, but I believe it would help with the losses of AB and Bell.
A lot will depend on what we get in return for AB as well.
BUT, I think there should be some consideration given to drafting TE Hockenson from Iowa.
He's a complete TE. Can block and catch equally well.
He has the potential to be a an upgraded version of Heath Miller.......without having to suffer under a "I don't believe in using a TE in the passing game" coach like Arians for most of his career.
6'5", 250lbs, 4.6 forty......and he's got the Steeler attitude.
Not sure he makes it to 20, though.

A man can dream.........

He had a 3-cone under 6,90 and blocks like the best of them too, he is a top 15 pick

I would sign the starting RCB in the first week of free agency, I like either Bradley Roby or Pierre Desir.
I'd also try to sign John Brown WR and Jordan Hicks ILB in free agency.

Trade AB to Raiders for 1 of the late first rd picks and their 4th rd pick.
Try to draft Devin Bush and TJ Hockenson with the two first rd picks.
Use the 2nd rd pick on best WR available.
Use 3rd rd pick to draft Chase Winovich OLB to compete with Bud.
Use two 4th rd picks on best CB and DL available.
Use two 6th rd picks on RB and OL
Use 7th rd pick on a punter.

Let me add something, if hockenson is there and both top ILBs (the Devins)are gone I prefer to draft him over any of the CBs or Safeties available, even over any WR (deep class, we can get someone good later), use the trade AB pick and our 2nd rounder in filling ILB and CB.
We do need a vet FA CB to excel in the draft, otherwise we will reach, again

Because I don't want to open a new thread I'm throwing this here: Steelers are tendering RFA Xavier grimble, 2 millions is the price. I don't understand how XG is worth that, if someone overpays our offer we don't get any compensation either, so why not let him test the market and then get him on the minimum? He is not setting the world on fire as a receiver not blocker, where's his value?

I think Jesse James is gone and they panicked a bit, the more reason to go for the Iowa TEs in the 1st round.

I wouldn't touch Ramsey. The last thing this team needs is another diva star, we didn't learn our lesson the first 2 times? The guy already called out Ben in the media saying he's below average. Yeah let's bring that guy in, that'll really boost team chemistry.

Didn't the Pats just cut Gostkowski?

Didn't the Pats just cut Gostkowski?

no. he's being allowed to explore his value.
smart move on their part. they got their use out of him, and it seems as if he's starting to break.

The Steelers will have a ton of cap space next season, they should get a top FA and CB and a decent pickup in another position of need (S, ILB, OLB, WR) using this fact to their advantage on the contract: Small cap hit in the 1st season but a lot of money in the 2nd season, most of it guaranteed, etc

Ok so I wanted to share my two cents on what would I do during the draft and FA process, now that the combine has given us some useful information and that AB is practically gone we can start shaping next year's roster during the offseason:

From the combine I get the feeling that I rather get a CB in the 2nd round than spend our 1.20 in any of the probable options that will be there, Murphy and Baker look like really good CBs but lack that extra athleticism and/or size to make it worth a mid 1# (Greedy Williams will probably be gone already, if not he is in the mix). That leaves us with the possibility of going for ILB/OLB/S, right now I like Bush/Burns/Gardner-Johnson right there for those spots (White and Sweat will be long gone, Allen too)

Back to Free Agency, I'm assuming two things: first we trade AB for a late 1st, second we trade Burnett for a 5th rounder (cap savings= 3,6M). Money available = 19M

1) we should go balls out on a CB because we won't get a day 1 starter from the draft, here are the top available options: McCourty(cheats), Darby(eagles), Jackson(texans), Nelson (Chiefs). I would try hard to sign any of these guys, none of them is an elite corner so it shouldn't cost more than 8 M/Y.

2) get your own free agents back: Hilton (ERFA), Jesse James, Finney(RFA) and Feiler(ERFA). 2nd tier: Foster, Chickillo, Sensabaugh, Rogers, Fort (all these guys should get cheap contracts and have to fight it out to earn a roster spot). Total cap hit 9M

3) A vet WR should be of need given that our current players are JuJu 22, Washington 22 and Switzer 24. A guy with leadership and experience could help these kids and whoever we draft midrounds, how about John Brown who many already like here? Another way to go in FA is trying to sign Golden Tate, who won't be cheap, instead of the starting CB opposite Haden. I prefer the CB

4) if you don't go for the top vet CB or WR you might spend some money in a 3rd safety, one that can play near the LoS and make stuff happen, like this guy some have heard of Tyranne Mathieu? This would mean 3 starting safeties on Defense, coaches better find out how to make this work.

5) Fill the rest of the roster with minimum wage vets and try to complete the roster in the draft.

On to the draft:
- if we got a top CB in FA then Murphy, Willams and Baker are out of my list in the 1st round. I'd look for ILB/OLB/S
- if we got a top S in FA then Gardner-Johnson is off
- if we got a top WR in FA then no WRs until the 4th round.

ILBs in order of liking: White, Bush, in round 1; Wilson, Pratt in round 2. It is a must to secure a top 4 ILB in this draft, even if it means moving up in the 2nd round, ABs pick and our 3rd rounder should help with that.
CBs in order of liking: Williams, Murphy, in round 1; Baker, Oruwariye, Mullen, Ya-Sin. I think 2nd round is the sweet spot for picking CB this draft.
S: CGJ in round 1, Hooker, Savage, Rapp, Adderley in round 3
WR: there's a lot to like in this class, I´d use that late 1st / early 2nd from AB on securing a top WR like Butler, Harry, Samuels
OLB: this is a tough one, with so many needs only if huge value is there at 1st or 2nd round I'd pass up on OLB, I see it at the same need level as Safety. Names I like are of course Allen(who won't be at 1.20), then Banogu, Burns, Hollins, Ximines. Best value available at round 3

So 5 needs in the draft to be drafetd early. I think Safety gets the axe in a numbers game. Of course, if we do go for a big FA then we shouldn´t be between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully AB does bring a late 1st to help us out to move up or down and get best value for the different positions of need.

So, what would you do if you were the Front Office? Salute the Nation
Litos,

This is a generally good plan

but

I read Coach's CV in another thread and would immediately replace Tombert with him, on a Chucky contract.

maybe you and Ark could get coffee and stuff?

Heheh Coach is an expert on draft value, he can be part of the scout team, I'd even give him a measuring tape, you know, for head sizes and things of that nature.

Ark is on board too of course, in case I need someone to blame

If I was the GM I’d go into free agency getting one of 3 ILB. Mosley, Hick or Kwon Alexander. I believe Mosley commands too much money if I want to do too much more signing so I’d go after Alexander. Yes, he’s coming off an injury but that likely affects his market and maybe gets us a discount rate. We have Bostic and we can bring Fort back pretty cheap so we wouldn’t need to rush Alexander back either.
Then kick the tires on Golden Tate but expect he costs too much. So I’d try to bring in Jamison Crowder for a reasonable price.
Lastly if I could I’d sign Jason Verrett for an incentive laid contract. Tons of injuries has hampered his young career but he’s still young and when he plays he’s still good. Maybe the injury bug is over. If not don’t overspend.

That’s nonsense,

Coach invented the General Manager position and the draft system in the NFL. He said it on the web first. Or so he says....

I just hate going after the cheap and broken to “fix” our needs. The gamble is rarely worth it and we end up more frustrated. It’s like we’re buying the Made in China over the Made in America brand to save a few bucks.

Let’s get some known QUALITY and make a real improvement in our secondary or at ILB. Leave the lost toys on the island and let’s grab the GI Joe with the King Fu grip and the not the Hong Kong Ken with the season ending itch.

Imma sit in the replay booth to call for challenge flags.

Feiler and Hilton resigned to exclusive rights tag, 645k each.
Add that to the 3M from Finney and 2M for Grimble.

in hindsight, which is always 20/20, pass on Metcalf...

his 3-cone was worse than Tom Brady's

Ridley's combine #'s were pretty awful as well. Outside of arm length and hand size, he was not good to say the least.
I like his tape. But I wouldn't take him before rd 3.

I like this plan. But I take the OLB with the 2nd #1 - Brian Burns.
Grab a TE later. JMO

after 72 hours without electricity in my country (fortunately we have a diesel power generator where I live) and an almost total communications blackout I have access to internet and can follow closely on the post-AB trade debacle, I already vented my rage but I´ll update my OP plan:

Without another 1st round pick it gets imperative to sign a FA CB and I´m not talking about no Sensabaugh (who was decent last season, thanks, but not a long term option). The same guys are still on the table: McCourty(cheats), Darby(eagles), Jackson(texans), Nelson (Chiefs).

Besides that we need help in either of the following: ILB, S, WR, OLB so even though it´s not like we have tons of cap space the FO can get creative in how they structure FA contracts given that next season the team Will have a load of cap room:
- Safety only if Burnett is cut, there are some good options this offseason
- OLB woud be a tough one given that the team already is investing 9M in Bum Dupree (hope he proves us all wrong and earns a huge contract next season somewhere else after getting 10+ sacks).
- A vet ILB, even an injured one like Barron would give some freedom come draft day
- Without any high extra picks to play, only if none of the top 2 ILBs are available, or the IOWA TEs who can be a different kind of threat, I would trade down for an eanly 2nd and pick a WR there. Our own 2nd could be used on the BPA between ILB, CB, OLB

The rest of the draft should continue the BPA formula adding S, TE, RB to the mix

Socialism sucks, doesn't it. I hope things improve for you.

Why wouldn't you pursue Jalen Ramsey???

Because he's AB as a Cornerback. The moment you signed him and gave him his bonus the clock would start on his bullshit meter to get out of Pittsburgh to get that next big bonus and contract. His character is as bad as Browns.

And for the record, I wouldn't sign a former cheat if he was all-world and wanted to play for free.
