Who do we have behind Worids and Jones.....nobody. I guess we could resign Harrison. I was hoping for Gayle or Jeffcoat, but they signed with other teams. What should our plan be? Do we just hope a vet LB gets cut?

I would have to think Arthur Moats will spend more time outside than inside. When he was drafted, I believe he was thought to be more of a 3-4 OLB than ILB. We have lots of bodies inside: Timmons, V. Williams, Shazier, Spence, Garvin & Zumwalt.

I think Moats, Chris Carter, Zumwalt and Garvin would comprise OLB depth, along with the kid they picked up UDFA.

coach Butler said that Zumwalt will play inside. No one drafted Adrian Hubbard from Alabama. We should at least sign him for camp.

Chris Cater hasn't done squat. I have little faith in him. I like Branchflower, but I really wanted to draft Gayle or Jeffcoat for OLB depth. hink about it..unless we resign Debo, we have zero OLB depth, except Carter and Moats. That does not excite me.

We are overloaded on ILB. This should be a separate post, but we also don't have a third down back and need depth. Maybe we bring back LSH.

There will be a vet OLB cut. Bet your house.

Zumwalt.. heir apparent to Timmons? Or just a body? Not sure what I think of him. Fast. arm tackles.. pounds his chest a bit much...

They had so many holes and lack of depth on the defense that you can't fill every one of them with quality depth in one draft. There are still going to be some spots they are thin at, that's just the way it is. A couple good drafts in a row would cure that.

I know. I just though there were pass rushers we could have nabbed late.

They will bring in some veterans that get cut during camp. No worries

So zumwalt is inside as is Timmons, Williams, shanzer, spence, moats, Garvin Terence,Kion Wilson, Dan Molls and so oto Vic. So we now have 10 ILB and 4 OLB if you count Moats and carter.

Seems a little woonkie!

I agree. That's why I wondered that they went with Zumwalt at that spot. I wanted an OLB.

The worry about this defense is that for the 3-4 to work you need 2 things:

1. A true nose tackle

2. A true rush linebacker

We have neither on the roster at the moment, so I'm not sure what to expect. If they were talking about giving Shazier and his blazing speed a shot outside, I'd be thrilled. But they want to play him inside, so I don't know where the rush is going to come from.

Don't we have like 5 guys on the roster that weigh 350+ , are they WR'S? LOL

I think McCullers has the physical tools to do the job, but we haven't seen him do it yet. He'll need to be coached into the position. If he and Tuit pan out, and I hope they do, we'll have perhaps the most frightening 3 man line in the history of the 3-4 defense. But that's alot of ifs.

And who's going to rush the passer from the ROLB?

Shazier can play OLB too in an emergency. Williams or I guess Spence if he's healthy would then move to the middle.

Zumwalt can't hold Timmons jock. He will be a back up for several years, if he makes the team at all.

Not opposed to debo, but thats a deal in itself.

Salute the nation

Don't we spend the months leading up to the draft preaching BPA and hoping the FO ignores need and just takes the best players? Then after the draft all we talk about is how they didn't address their needs. It's weird. Keith Butler said Zumwalt was the highest ranked player on their board when he was picked...

Didn't you know that when we fans say take the "BPA", we mean take the "BPA" that is one of the one's we've mocked or at a position that we see as a need. LOL

So we either have nothing at NT, or we have the most frightening 3 man line IN THE HISTORY of the 3-4 defense? Thats quite a swing.

I would say a better line was A. Smith, C. Hampton, K. Von Olhoffen, and another A. Smith, C. Hampton, B. Kiesel. And that is only recent history.

I think its the latter... I think they/we will be happy with mclendon, cam,, Big Mac at NT.... and heyward & tuit / arnfelt at the other..

We are rebuilding the team will probably have flashes this coming season but likely many more disappointments. We might be looking at 8 an 8 or worse this year just because of experience level of our players. There will be routes missed guys running to the wrong spot you name it we will see lots of rookie mistakes this year while the guys are learning. We will likely have a good draft position again next year. I am not being negative I am looking at what we had and lost and what we are replacing them with. Guys like Ike are here in the band aid mode playing out the end of the string. WE maybe looking at a stretch of mediocre while we spend 2 to 4 seasons rebuilding the team and putting together a new core of players.

How much longer do you think Ben will be around and effective?
