It's a bit of an oversimplification to blame the blocking on the sacks. The initial play calling and subsequent audible has to be there. When they bring more than you have the play has to have a quick bailout. Leveon should be the release on all of those plays. And can they run a screen at all.

At least they didn't block each other like the gators did! Did anyone catch that on the pregame?

I think Ben still thinks he is 24 years old and can shed blockers for 7 minutes while he waits for someone to get 15 yards away from every defender. I love Ben but the guy darn near gives me a stroke at least 3 times every game.

Bell wasn't releasing, he and heath stayed into block, we had Seven blocking 6. And there was still a guy untouched to Ben for the sack, then when Bell did release, Miller totally missed a block and Bell had the ball knocked away on catch.

But some of those were free runs. It is the concept of the play not him holding onto the ball. Like he could have checked out of it which he did in the second half. If 6 or 7 are coming the play better have someone open quick or its just math. Someone will get home.

Titans have a pretty decent pass defense. Give the titans credit. they rolled coverage towards the limited pass routes that the Rookie and 2nd year players have, because guys like wheaton and Bryant have not learned the full playbook yet, then brought the house. Teams have learned their tendencies. the sign of the better players is can they adapt once the league adpts to their initial strengths... if they don't get open on quick routes, teams are going to double Brown and blitz the steelers to oblivion

That great prize Gilbert let inside pressure in as well and got Ben blasted. Some of those were just the line getting beat like a drum, when there are 4 or 5 guys around Ben that quick those guys are stinking the place up.

It's quite simple, when teams see the blitz is working, they take the short routes away forcing
us to run longer routes, thus holding the ball. A few press conferences back, maybe after the Browns loss, Tomlin said Ben doesn't have the option to audible on every play.

they gotta start realizing that guys like Foster @ Beachum are stopgaps and in a spread set they will 60% of the time give ben less then 5 secs, Foster just has terrible footwork that he sucks at sliding and sustaining the rush that he collapses the pocket by getting pushed like a rag doll into the pocket. Beachum can only hold down the blindside for 3-4 secs tops often, limited strenght and lacks the arm length to punch the edge rusher further. It is time Adams replaces Speath as the #2 we just send speath to block anyway if anything he in passing sets is just there to block and run a decoy route get Adams to block next to Beachum.

I am not sure why they don't put Adams in in place of Matt. Not like Matt is much of a pass catcher. Throw Adams and Gilbert side by side and sometimes next to Beach.

Not sure I am in favor of benching Gilbert for Adams. As they both have issues in pass protect.

a couple of sacks were on Ben not getting rid of the ball when the pressure was coming. throw it away if there's no escape valve available

Yep.

That's the flip side of him extending plays and turning nothing into big gains though.

They were.

******* Tomlin's obsession with bad players - Allen, Gilbert - is a mystery.

Careful with that kind of thinking as pretty soon you don't have enough players on the field. I hear what your saying, just a short option on replacements.

Salute the nation

I think we were a little slow in adjusting to the constant blitzing.

First, we should have taken Bryant off the field and given Moore a lot more snaps earlier in the game. There is a lot to like with Bryant, but reading defenses and knowing the "hot" routes is not one of them. Moore is much more experienced to know how to beat blitz coverage.

I thought Wheaton was awful and pretty much did nothing the entire night.

Second, we didn't adjust to the proper run plays until the 2nd half. We continue to bang our head against the zone blocking scheme, but the minute we went back to power football and the Power-O and pulled DeCastro, they couldn't stop it (at least not consistently enough to matter).

Third, the O-line did do a pretty ****** job of blocking on some plays. You have to hold your blocks more than a second boys.

Fourth, Roethlisberger has to do a better job to make the first read or throw it away.

LOL.

Not happening at this point in his career.

Allen is no mystery. They have three defensive backs, including 2 starters in street clothes. It ain't like we have Rod Woodson, or Mel Blount sitting on the bench.

the one that blew my mind was the sack by a 3 man rush. Yeah, Ben held the ball too long but could actually have held it even longer if Beachum was any good. Heath was helping him block and the second Heath released the guy came free for the sack.

I get that BB holds the ball too long many times. But think about it....with the o lines he's had at his disposal since being here it has been and continues to be necessary that he takes some sacks. Otherwise the guy would probably have completed about half the passes he has.

Ben is NOT throwing any passes away......hes never done it, never will. He'd much rather take a sack/loss than throw an incompletion. Hes a gunslinger and a playmaker (i'll hesitate to call him ELITE) and hes developed a mentality that he can make a play EVERY play. It gets him in trouble at times

On one of the sacks ONE defender penetrated and Pouncey literally pushed him away and the defender got an arm on Ben. They put the camera on Pouncey and Ben and Pouncey was saying something. It could have been: "Look Brah either throw the ******* ball or tuck and run for crissakes we're growing roots out here"!

For all the damn whining you girls do about Ben, you do realize his QB rating is higher than the great Tom Brady and Andrew Luck? He's thrown less INT's than Luck and Manning, only one more than Brady. His comp% is higher than Brady, Luck, Rodgers, and Manning.
I forgot, those guys never make mistakes, only Ben.

On watching the line play I saw two guys that stood out for doing a good job in last nights game, DeCastro made some great blocks and routinely pursued the play and blasted someone on the pile or about to be on the pile prior to the whistle, that was a common theme for him. Heath Miller made some great blocks as well many of which sprung Bell. I saw Pouncy standing there not engaged many times as well as that dumbass Gilbert leaving an open lane for a delayed Blitz that got Ben blasted.

There still needs to be some more work on this unit before they get to the next level. In comparison Tenn's line played rather well, handling McCullers on most occasions as well as nearly everyone else although they had some real noticeable non calls from the zebras.

Its quite simple to understand why his completion pct is higher...he usually takes less risks but he takes more sacks and more punishment than some other QBs. An incompletion is better than a sack...especially if it knocks you out of FG range. Im sure those others would have high completion pctgs if they moved around the pocket for 3 extra seconds waitin for a receiver to clear by 5 yards
