Onside kick?

It's safe to say if it wasn't for Tomlin's bonehead onside kick and Haleys stupid 4th down decisions we would've overcome all those things. Get any one of those right and the outcome is different.

Juju was mugged on the one fourth down call. Should have been a PI. I agree the pitches were idiotic.

Jacksonville was stacking the box, so a run up the middle was not a guarantee.

Onside kick in this instance was probably Tomlin's worst, in a career of bad decisions.

Inexcusable.

you have to stop them no matter what. Why they use a timeout early is beyond me.

You kick off an stop them, you get the ball at the 20-30, with 2 mins to go.

A good onside kick, don't get it, 3 and out, get the ball at the 10. not a lot of difference.

Tomlin is an AROGANT Idiot and anybody that would honestly onside kick in that situation is a liability to the success of the team. His game decisions are queationable in alot of respects. He is just too AROGANT for his own good. AROGANCE and CONFIDENCE are very different IMHO!

...You go with the onside kick every time there. If Boz wouldn't have ****** it up..Anyone that would seriously not do the onside kick is out of their freekin mind.

I'm making an appointment with a psychiatrist then.

An onside kick is a very low percentage play to begin with. Then you add that Boswell, as good as he is on field goals and extra points, has shown no feel whatsoever for how to execute an onside kick. So it was no surprise at all when it failed.

With two timeouts left, and two-plus minutes left, I squib it and make the Jags return it. Then try to hold them.

Tomlin handed them three points unnecessarily.

We got Tomlin'd about three times this game. Defend him if you want, but he is a horrible game manager and does not put his team in the best position to win.

Then, unbelievably, the kick with one second left on the clock is not a high 20-25 yard pooch to try and let your team run under it and hope for a miracle, no...it's a line drive kick directly at the one guy Jacksonville has back deep to take a knee.

******* Bizzaro world coaching.

I thought the same damn thing. He flip flopped them.

The execution on that kick was as if they had never even practiced it.

You must be ******* joking? Our D couldn't stop the Jags on a 3 and out all game. You go with the onside kick every time there. If Boz wouldn't have ****** it up, they wouldn't have been in FG range to start. He ****** that up, not Tomlin. Our D gave the Jags 38 ******* points today. Anyone that would seriously not do the onside kick is out of their freekin mind.

The odds are still better than recovering an onside kick. Make them make the plays in their end, don't hand it over in god damn fg range. It was stupid.

They could of still stopped them. The dline is allowed to get penetration. Doesn't have to be schemed

We got two gift TDs on 4th downs, that made the game closer than it should have been and makes Tomlin look less stupid than he really was today.

I’m not going to use this as an excuse to pile in Tomlin. I think it’s more complicated than that, but I did think that the TD’s we got on 4th down were fortuitous. Not sure I’d call them gifts. There still had to be excellent execution.

Don't know if this has come up:

On the postgame radio show, Savran pointed out that if James' late TD against NE held up and the Steelers won, they wouldn't have been playing Jax this weekend. The opponent would have been Tenn or KC. And the Jags would have played in NE...

That call "reshuffled the deck," as he puts it, when it came to playoff pairings...

Just sayin'...

The way we played today on defense, we could have played the Browns and still got our *** kicked.

He said he didnt believe they could stop them. Really. And I agree that they may not have. And you cannot go to the sequence that happened. Jax played for a field goal. However, you cannot say that they dont run on first and second. If you stop that you are 60-40 against stopping them at worst. Compare that to an onside kickoff.

I'd rather not stop them making them go 80 yards then not stop them when they are already in damn FG range.

Is Tomlin that stupid? He's is a absolute **** coach

He is that stupid.

A failed onside kick almost guarantees it becomes a 2 score game. That is exactly hat happened and instead of coaching from his fat gut he should play the odds and play basic football and use the clock and timeouts to get the ball back with a chance to tie. We never had the ball in the forth quarter with a chance to tie the game, sad.

We had it twice in the 3rd quarter with that chance and didn't get it done. I hated the onside kick, but this game was littered with WTF coaching moments on both sides of the ball.

Exactly. Even with as bad as the D played all game, I'd rather make the Jags go 80+ yards and give my HOF QB a chance to think up a few plays and win the game instead of basically giving Jax a FG.

Tomlin and his piss poor decisions hurt this team more then the Jags beat us today.

Pretty much. They hold them to a three and out even at that spot on the field, and they may not have tried what would have been a very long field goal try. Instead, they end up giving them a first down inside the 30. Defense couldn't make a stop when they needed to, simple as that.
