Our Defense is ranked #1………….let the dance begin

In the modern nfl, I wonder if this is a misappropriation of funds.
The whole system we created is just for mediocre free agent QB's, retreads where some other team is off-setting money, etc. That's all we can afford or we have to take the plunge with a young QB (one we drafted).
Yet it's impossible to convince some fans that the Steelers have not had outstanding cap management.

Based on last year's stats, that would be around 30 more yards per game for total yards and 1.0 more PPG to be a top-12 scoring offense.

All attainable, time will tell, but that isn't that much when considering the hand-cuffed scheme the offense was relocated to.

Well.... it is okay because we haven't had a QB worth paying and really didn't foresee any for quite a while.

In truth, Rogers costing only $20 million was kind of a bargain. He had solid production. No long term committment. Kind of paying $20M against the cap year-to-year for that production probably isn't a losing strategy in and of itself.

But I just don't see it sustainable. And there is little upside. I mean, we got the best QB production from Rogers we had in 5 seasons and we still finished just 10-7 (again). So that itself isn't the problem. I think some was Tomlin, coaching and systems. I think some is the remaining parts of the roster not being good enough.

But if we are going to break out of this rut we are in, obviously getting B or B- grading on QB play (which Rogers probably gave us) isn't the "fix". We need better. We need younger. We need potential. Or we need B production on the cheap.

And I know Seattle and New England got good QB play on the cheap and then built very deep, very well coached teams around that to get to the SB. But saying we can replicate Seattle is a long shot. Teams like Seattle haven't much existed in the past 10-20 years. And replicating New England means trying again in the draft for a potential franchise QB.

I just don't see any other way. Maybe I'm wrong.

It's not impossible. I believe it. My point was that in a modern league, with most of the rules being pro-offense, you have to wonder if it is wiser to focus the efforts mostly in that direction.

Completely agree, Dj -- I wasn't putting you in that group of "some fans." I had a drawn out argument about it with one in particular some time ago. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No worries, my friend. I took no offense. Appreciate you.

This roster belongs in the geriatric unit.
To all those who feel good about our potential this upcoming season, prepare to be disappointed. Some of the most out of touch ownership and management in the league.

Oops I forgot.
We are #1 at having the most consecutive non-losing seasons at 22.
Forgetting about that goes to show you how much that matters these days…or those days.

Don’t write that streak off as if it was nothing, because it is significant in the “right perspective”.

The Media is the culprit as to the overblown fame, also responsible for the sour rate in many fan’s mouths.

We fans got tired of hearing over and over and over and over and over, with nothing significant to gain from it.

Had there been some post-season wins, then it would become more significant.

The cheatriots had an undefeated season that became less significant with the SB-loss.

My biggest thing is we now have a different staff, one that may bring significance to the streak.

Great post. Keep them coming. Truth hurts at times. 🤔

IF WE HAD SOME POST-SEASON WINS THE PERCEPTION WOULD BE DIFFERENT.....Lol....that is the exact reason that it makes it irrelevant. Smh

I haven’t looked it up lately, but I think we are the most winning-est team (regular season) in the NFL since the merger.
