outlaw bridges

Pedestrian walkway - not a "bridge"

hysterical media again

FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg said all of the contractors were fully certified by the state and the builder, Munilla Construction Management, was recommended by the Florida Department of Transportation. He also said they were testing the bridge.

The cable-supported bridge's 950-ton span flattened eight cars traveling on Eighth Street, also known as Tamiami Trail, about 1:45 p.m. The very busy east-to-west road wasn't closed to commuter traffic during the testing phase. The innovative bridge was set to open to the public next year

Workers at the scene... "the bridge was undergoing some sort of stress test when it collapsed.."

Bridges are the creation of socialist programs, of course Trumptards are against them.....

Bridges ,and the Post office......better yet bridges that are on the way to a post office....******* communists....kill two birds with one stone.

Not trying to be a jerk here but this is 1st and foremost a steelers message board. Can you tell me when you posted on something regarding the steelers?

Elfie did this year... most of which... um strike that, some of which was well opined and devoid of political propaganda or insults...

I hate bridges and dry docks. Always had a phobia toward them.

I actually have some insight on Ben and actually kind of an apology for the stuff I've said about his work ethic in the past, just haven't gotten around to it.

The guy has really stepped up his "pocket passer" game and it came to him by putting the work in.

I digress as this is politics.

This was either a design failure during construction, a testing failure or contractor error.

They will all likely get sued to high heaven over this. No idea what caused it yet.

Just understand this was a brand new bridge under construction. People weren't using it. It just failed and fell onto active traffic and/or pedestrians under the bridge.

This bridge was built with FIU’s own engineering technology called Accelerated Bridge Construction. They came up with a way to build smaller bridges in a day because it saves on the “societal costs" (IE having a detour for months). They figured this would revolutionize the industry and FIU would be at the forefront.

Here’s the article

i bet there are tons of engineers saying I told you so.

This will probably end up in court with the school’s engineers and the construction company pointing fingers at each other.

i don’t know about you, but bridges seem like one of those things where you should take your time.

Why do a stress test when cars are going under it. Makes no sense

That was the whole point of their new accelerated process, to prove how you could put a bridge up quickly while only stopping traffic for a few hours.

Somebody should go to jail for this.

Not an engineer nor a bridge builder, but why does a walkway need to weigh 9 hundred and fifty ******* tons? Good ol' american steel to frame it, make the deck outta aluminum (to save weight and it won't rust)? Maybe??
And why over an intersection where traffic will stop underneath - couldn't they have moved it a 1/2 block one direction or the other - yeah traffic could still back up under it, but ......

shoulda hired these guys

Lol....that song and dance again.....

Yes there were some socialist policies and programs from the past that were highly beneficial.

But past success doesn't automatically make righteous and just the ideas put forth by todays socialist/liberal/leftist nut job.... as so many of you ignorant coattail riding, self righteous ***** believe it should.

Wasn't he the one whining about Tomlin haters being racists? That's sorta regarding the Steelers.

that was probably me inadvertently being racist for not knowing this.

Quinn reporting that the college president talked a lot about "diversity" when opening construction on said bridge. Just sayin'.

They are really pushing women and minorities into engineering now. Apparently bridges are stronger when when built by diverse people instead of the best possible people.

Exactly.
