P*ats ....receiving beneficial advice to avoid penalty on last kick ?

That's some dumb **** way of trying to refute a real life example that was at the time a major issue and talked about ad nausea on the sports shows. The implication of the incorrect review of that play swayed millions of dollars and the NFL got it wrong WITH review. Weird how the bookies made out.

I don't believe that teams are favored, or all games rigged. But Vegas and $$ talk...and that game was evidence enough for me. We've had referees in professional sports leagues sent to prison. We've had players banned from their leagues for betting on games they were in, or managed, or denied entrance into the hall of fame because they let money interfere with fair play. It happens, and it's happened throughout time.

But there are those of you who put on the blinders and say "Never in the NFL."

To you I say, you're naive.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, Tim. Personally, I think its a crock of ****, guess thats just my naive side peekin' out

But what about all the other blown calls that don't favor the bookies? Like I said everything proves the conspiracy. The ones that don't favor the bookies proves the league is trying to cover up the ones that do right? How about this one?

http://www.cnbc.com/id/49165357

GB is a 3.5 favorite but the refs totally blow the TD call and give Wilson a TD pass when it was clearly an int. But I'm sure that is just a mistake. Only the ones that favor the bookies are fixed.

So you're saying what, exactly?
I think the league occasionally dispenses favors to their favored teams to keep them near the top of the standings or more or less playoff eligible by letting the officials know which way they'd like it to go. I'm not saying that Rog calls up the refs and says "Make sure the Pats* win this week" but I do think that it is occasionally "suggested" by the league office which way they want certain games to go. And when that goes on long enough, then the refs get the idea without having to be told. Similar things happen, or used to happen depending on who you believe, in NASCAR. A certain car and/or certain driver needed a good finish to keep his (lucrative) sponsor on board, so his team would get what is known as "The Call", i.e. the inspectors are going to overlook some things on your car this week but don't be too obvious about it. So Driver X's crew knows they can get away with a fuel tank a half-gallon bigger and a car that's a quarter inch lower. Maybe not enough to win but enough to get an edge. I can easily see the same thing happening in the NFL.

In your mind, what is it that the league actually does, what operations exist (and conducted by whom), that supports your belief that big-market teams are targeted specifically for advantages on the field? Are these overt "favors"?
1) Rog burning the Pats* tapes, 2) after he figured the Steelers had been in enough Super Bowls recently they changed the rules and started flagging us left and right to give someone else a chance. Enough of this Steeler Nation and Steeler Bar bullshit. We've got to get Peyton Manning in another Super Bowl before he retires. People will love that. Peyton is a great guy who makes funny commercials with his brother. Roethlisberger tries to get blowjobs in bathrooms, so I'll suspend him for four games but Ray Rice for only two because he's in the D.C. market and the Redskins suck too much for me to help them.
See how that works?

What? The Steelers are a small market team and have been in 8 SBs. The Jets haven't been in a SB in over 40 years. Cowboys haven't sniffed a SB in over 20 years. Is GB a major market? Why hasn't there been a Jet/ Giants SB? How in the hell did AZ get a SB? Seriously, the idea that the league is "helping" large market teams is just ridiculous. They are doing a sucky job of it if that is their "plan".

You can't give the Jets and Cowboys enough help without it looking obvious. Besides, the Jets are in the same market as the Giants who have been in a couple Super Bowls lately.

Huge market. Lotsa people plus L.A. doesn't have a team except San Diego so that's all the southwest has. I'm not saying every game is fixed, I'm just saying that occasionally certain favored teams get favors.

And your evidence is? Why didn't NE get the favors against the rats a couple years ago. ONE PI penalty puts them back in the SB. Like I said, everything proves a conspiracy. It's like global climate change. Hot weather, cold weather, no weather. Everything fits. When the refs messed up the Steeler game against SD that proves the conspiracy. When it goes the exact opposite GB vs. Seattle then that proves it as well. Until I see some facts instead of speculation it makes no sense to me.

it was the Ravens turn for the 'fix'

Wasn't it nice for Ray The Knife to bookend his career with Super Bowl wins?
Like I said, I don't think games are overtly fixed but I can believe that occasionally the refs get a call saying "Go easy on Team X this week".

I'm not saying they're always against us either. Woulda been nice for Bettis to end his career with a ring and ba-da-bing, the Seahawks get an offensive pass interference penalty that cost them a TD, which although it was legit is something that is almost never called. Just sayin'.

Seriously, it's been pretty obvious for more than a few years that the league favors, and bends over backwards for the Patriots and the Ravens. And to not see that is to be pretty naïve.

We might disagree about all sorts of things.

But the consensus here is that if you're a Steeler fan, the Patriots and Ravens clearly are Public Enemies No. 1 and 2.

This is true. I remember thinking as a kid, that NO team would ever eclipse my disdain for dallas, but alas, those two have long surpassed the cowboys as "most hated" in my world

You lost your *** on that Chargers-Steelers game, didnt you?

Ha!.....Nah.....I do not gamble....much.

I was watching the game at a steelers Bar at Patriots Point in Charleston SC. I will never forget it because o the following

1) The one sided penalties......It was freaking ridiculous 13-2...(Article says 23, that is a typo)

2) Everybody at the bar was crying FIX and that was BEFORE the last play.

3) They called TD on the field, reviewed it, called TD again and then all of the sudden started conferring for an inordinate amount of time one guy at the bar said what the hell are they talking about and I yelled "POINT SPREAD"......and sure enough they came back and said "NO TD.....Game Over".......

4) Google Scott Green NFL Official......Boy oh Boy.....if there is a big game ending controversy......well.....there he is. Giants Niners Playoffs screw job...... courtesy of Scott Green.....If he is is at the epicenter of Game/Score altering **** ups........and the best graded out officials work the super Bowl.......why is he working Super Bowls?

They want him in the Super Bowl.

5) Scott Green is now retired and working in.....Washington DC........as a......Lobbyist. That in itself speaks volumes.

steel dino finds this post slightly offensive...this is coming from a person with a vowel dominated sir name... ;)

your watching too many gangster movies man..

I detest gambling in sports. It just opens the door for too much corruption and foul play. I suggest reading the book. The Fix Is In.

You think it's a crock of ****. How do you explain these cases:

  • Pete Rose
  • The Chicago Black Sox
  • Art Schlichter
  • Rick Tocchet
  • Tim Donaghy
  • Paul Hornung and Alex Karras
  • Charlie Samuels (Mets)
  • The Boston College Point Shaving Scandal

But...but...no way NFL games are ever rigged...even if you take Art and Paul and Alex out of the picture. Never, ever ever would there be a fixed game in the NFL.

I sleep well enough, thanks.

No need to get pissy; i just find the notion that nfl games being influenced from the top to such a degree, to be crap conspiracy theory bs, barring some relavant, detailed evidence. Dont let my opinion ruin your Monday, friend

How is laying out evidence getting pissy? Calm down son. Or are you one of those "how dare you challenge my position?" internet trolls?

There's plenty of corruption in sports, including the NFL. You believe it's out of the realm of possibility for games to be rigged, and others don't. I'm providing cases of corruption in sports as supporting evidence that corruption does occur. Refs have been paid by bookies and refs have made money in sports for swaying games. I "believe" it can and has happened in the NFL.

Happy Monday to you as well.

I don't think gamblers can fix NFL games - and have not been able to do so for a lot of years - simply because the amount of money needed would be so incredibly high. This is a multi-billion dollar sport. The owners and players get paid a ****-ton of money. The refs earn a boatload of money for a 2nd job. These guys would not be interested in throwing games for less than a massive payout - and I mean, millions of dollars.

That kind of payout will be noticed.

Remember, the Black Sox sold out because they earned so little. College games can be fixed because the players are earning nothing. Back in the 1960's, NFL players had a job in the offseason to pay the bills. Those guys can be bought.

Now, the players are so well-paid that they cannot be bought, and the refs are in their 30's and 40's with careers, and earning a lot of money working weekends. They are not going to give up that money and risk jail time for $250,000 (which they earn in a single year with regular job + NFL ref salary), or $500,000, or even $1 million.
