Paging.......Big Daniel McCullers........Paging BIG DAN!!!

I don't know if he has even done anything with the Texans, but I'm still burned that we didn't have our originally third-round pick for this year, which we could have used to grab Louis Nix, the best pure 3-4 nose tackle in this year's draft. I know they rarely see the field, but when they do they better perform. But that still doesn't excuse a guy like Timmons not filling a hole and trying to tackle a running back with one arm as he is falling down. He has to be better than that.

nix is on pup list

I think McCullers needs to play too, but he wouldn't have been in there anyway in the 2nd half.

The Browns pretty much went to the read option and misdirection. The Steelers can't defend that right now. I don't think Casey Hampton in his prime would help the Steelers against that right now.

this blind kid sees the play better than our DL

I am LOL'ing @ this videoclip and I feel dirty for doing so but I can't help it....LOL.

It was like watching a high school offense run the same play over and over and over again because it was working.

All of these great drafts are really adding up.

There is not one player on the whole D-line so good that McCullers needs to sit the bench. Not one ******* player.. I do not care how raw he is. We virtually have nothing now..

I'm with six on this one

McCuller's can fall forward and do a better job than McLendon. We need a space eater in the middle and Steve does not draw a double team. Start Da Beard in place of Thomas also.

all 2nd half they just kept running at cam and he got pushed like a turd, eithier start mcullers at nt and put mclendon and start brett opposite of cam until tuitt is ready or cam shows he can do something.

I think some of you are kidding yourself if you think McCullers, a 6th round rookie that often gets washed out and single-teamed by players half his size, is going to step in and command double-teams at NT. He's a mammoth, but he plays more like Horton (yes, I've made this comment on this board before). If he were a plug-and-play NT, he'd have gone higher than the 6th with his size and frame. Terrence Cody is enormous as well and many of us laughed at the Ravens when they drafted him in the second, and now he's been relegated to a rotational/backup player.

Our DL is pretty ****, save for Heyward, but that doesn't mean McCullers is the answer. If size were everything, why'd we get him in the 6th? Why wasn't he active? Why hasn't he been the starter all along? Why isn't Terrence Cody an All-Pro?

Said in the other thread McCullers subbing in and out would have helped keep McClendon (who I don't think had a terrible game) fresh. Or fresher....but like 6 said, there isn't much else or much to lose by activating him. I do seem to remember him demanding doubles and I also remember seeing him pursue down the line pretty well.

Plenty of later round rookies starting on teams

After the Steelers game I was channel flipping to other games and noticed rookies starting on several teams, rookies drafted in the later rounds who were putting in solid performances. They beat out the veterans who weren't cutting it, so there was no veteran favoritism by the coaching staff. So if the vets on the interior D'line aren't cutting it, you get more reps for Tuitt and get big Dan into the rotation who can hardly be worse then what we have now, and at least they have solid upside potential. Let the vets who aren't cutting it be their backups.

How can anyone say he isn't ready? After watching thomas and mcclendon suck, tell Mccullers to take the guy in front of you and push as far into the backfield is all you have to do, that would be an upgrade over what we saw. He was making plays 10 yards downfield in the preseason too, so he hustles.

Hell, with his wing span, tell him to grab the 2 guys nearest to him.

Yeah, at this point I bring McCullers in on a few series and see if he shores up that interior defense. If so McLendon can come in on passing downs. I also would give Tuitt a few series as well to see what he can do instead of Thomas.

I'm not saying that McCullers shouldn't be thrown into the rotation over Cam at the very least. What I am saying is not to get your hopes up that he is the savior we're looking for.

You may remember the couple plays he ran downfield and made a tackle in the preseason. Do you remember all of the times he failed to disengage/get any type of push and ended up getting ridden out by a 2nd or 3rd team C/G? Also, if production were as simple as throwing a big guy out there and saying, "hey, man, push your guy into the backfield, m'kay?", we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.

His pad level is atrocious and, for as humongous as he is, he makes no use of leverage. He has great size, but Leverage>>>>>Size. If you stand up, no matter how large you are, you're going to get blocked by someone with lower pad level.

I don't recall that happening too often, but just because a player doesn't blow up the line and knock the QB on his *** on every play doesn't mean he's not capable of being a solid impact player.

I do not recall McLendon getting tripe teamed ever - may have happened, just did not see it. I do recall seeing Big Dan getting triple teamed though. What can it hurt to let him dress and go in for a few series? Maybe he won;t work out, but at least give him a shot.
