Pantheon of Steelers LBs

To hard to compare Lloyd and Harrison, Lloyd played in a more run dominant era so he had less chances at sacks. I'm not going to look up the numbers on passing attempts by opponents. Harrison is probably the best pass rushing OLB we've had, but Porter and Lloyd were better in coverage, and both very good pass rushers, I think Porter has to be in that discussion too, only 2nd player in nfl history with 50+ sacks and 10+ ints or whatever it was when he retired.

Lloyd is my all time favorite player but Harrison is up there I agree it is hard to compare them, I think they'd both be hall of fame bound if their careers had been a little longer. Lloyd was terrific in the open field I remember him blowing up many reverses and such. We've been spoiled at the position.

I remember Lloyd being manhandled by the Dallas Cowboys tackles. That would never happen to Harrison.. I have always thought Harrison was better than Lloyd. I think people get wrapped up in Lloyds bad ***
demeanor too much..

If I remember correctly, that was only for a quarter and a half or so. Then Greg stepped it up / changed his tactic and performed very well the rest of the game. I think the team as a whole, started out a little slow but all cane around, except our target on two occasions.

Greg wasn't the reason the Steelers lost that SB, Neal O'Duck Gone was

Everyone likes to harp on that one long run by Emmit Smith where Lloyd was pancaked by Larry Allen, but Smith was totally shutdown the rest of the game.

The defense got off to a terrible start, but made the adjustments and played great the rest of the game.

I remember being surprised how well they played against the Cowboys, given how those Aikman/Smith/Irvin offenses always seemed to curb stomp the Steelers in their regular season matchups.

Steelers had momentum. when it counted, one QB didn't want to participate. Some claimed he was payed off. For me it was just a classic choke.

Its been awhile, so my memory is a little faded. I think Neal threw the receiver under the bus, during post game interviews.

Lloyd played MLB on most 3 rd down passing downs he was used all over the field and didn't rush the passer nearly as much as Harrison.

I remember Lloyd running a cardinal wr down from behind, I think maybe Randall hill was the wr, was shocked he caught him

I don't think he "threw him under the bus." I think O'Donnell was correct that the receiver, Corey Holliday, failed to run a hot route.

And the only reason that Holliday was in the game was because a very good receiver, Ernie Mills, blew out his knee making a great catch in heavy coverage against Indianapolis in the AFC Championship game. If O'Donnell does not hit Mills with that pass, Steelers fans suffer through yet another AFC Championship game disappointment.

In fairness to O'Dummell, Andre Hastings failed to 'break' his route on the first pick and Corey Holliday failed to recognize a 'hot' on the second. O'Dummell was already without Charles Johnson, who was hurt before the game. Mills stepped in and had a good game til he went down leaving Hastings as the teams #2 and Holliday (who had barely hit the field that year) as his #3.

An unfortunate set of circumstances led to our failures in this game but the LBs weren't part of it. IMO

I wish Cowher could have gotten Jerrol Williams to stay in Pgh. and not leave in free agency.

He was on the way up - he had nine sacks in '91 and nearly 100 tackles the next year - then was gone. Three years later, out of football.
