The thing about Gunner is he is making no impact as the second slot receiver AND underperforming as a returner…
Before the games and injuries Id have figured the pecking order would be DJ, Claypool and Pickens as the starters, and CA3 and Anthony Miller as the slot and returner guys… Boykin was potentially staying as a Special teams coverage guy. Sims and Gunner were both on the outside looking in… because honestly they were redundant with CA3 with a lower ceiling at WR.
Now Miller and CA3 getting hurt threw a monkey wrench in that, but Sims had more experience than Gunner at WR… they gave Gunner all sorts of chances and like all the rest of the average speed but quick small guys they have used there through the years, he was utterly ineffective, and pricey for his role, and then he wasn’t getting return yards (fyi Bubbles tries to puntblock too much to get good returns frequently) and he has been fumbling
