Penguins 22-23

Yep, it's MTC. He wasn't here to degrade them publicly during the game.

Tough love. I was that way during their last cup run and it worked. That reverse sports psychology mojo is gone. They just don't have the horses in the stable or a peak Murray/Fleury in net.

The peak quality of the game was definitely the 70,s. At least from my perspective of having watched both. The 90,s wasn't bad football wise, but the free agency stuff was in full swing and people started going mercenary to the highest bidder.
From a pure sport perspective. I’ll agree.

The 90’s though from a sport/business/society perspective peaked.
Let’s just say the nfl pre 9/11.

Anything post 9/11 turned into fantasy football and sjw awareness started trickling in.

It’s a combination of goaltending and whatever gear they coast on in the last 5 minutes or so
Plus they're old n slow... They're still fun to watch when they're hitting on the 5.5 to 6 cylinders remaining

So if those soft, flightless nobodies don’t win tomorrow. Count them out?

They sputter and burn through gas.
Mike Sullivan saw the gas prices and pushes through on E

PPG paints?
Maybe Points Per Gallon if they can go the distance amirite?

Sometimes there's water in the fuel and sometimes they're burning nitrous. You never know when either will kick in...

If they decide to go on a losing streak here it might be over. The Panthers got over their slump last night with a win over the Leafs and they can string wins together unlike the Pens who play one half assed decent game out of 5. Only 1 game in hand now too....

Most likely a loss. :pout:

If you follow the Pens closely. Goaltending has been an issue since the last cup win in 16-17. Matt Murray went on a huge decline that nobody saw coming.

Another trait that transpired around that time was the late 3rd period collapses. As key assets like Cullen, Kessel, Hagelin, Bonino, Cole, Reaves etc moved on. Those late third period collapses became more amplified. None of this current trend is a shock.

The GM has left Sullivan out to dry with a poorly constructed roster. That said don’t expect the big 3 to be moved. They’re going out on their terms and deservingly so. The Pens would be playing in KC if those three weren’t playing the way they have throughout their career. From triumphs to defeats. Those three deserve to see out their careers as Pens lifers.

As for the current teams-
At best they’re a first round team. At worst they miss the playoffs. I ain’t stressing over it. Will be an interesting offseason for sure.

My only worry is the direction of the league. A lot of hardcore fans are fed up with Bettman, I mean they always have, but this season just feels different - With a lot of bottom feeder deals to promote the league *** I’m all on board for hockey becoming big and they were on the right trend in 2013-2020 but since then the league has seemingly taken a nose dive ***

Maybe it’s just my point of view. But even I’ve become disinterested at this point.
I do follow the Penguins closely, and I wasn't upset when they traded Murray. I thought Jarry was going to be the answer, but I was wrong. He's a punk who shlts the bed in the playoffs. He should be gone after they wash out again by losing in the first round or missing the playoffs entirely.

What was shocking to me is that Pittsburgh kept Crosby, Malkin, and Letang together. Bringing Rust back at $5 million per season was a big mistake; they need to find somebody who will trade for him, and allocate that cap room towards a legitimate #1 goaltender. They should also consider trading Malkin to the Capitals, since he's having 20% of the team over for dinner anyway. I like Malkin, but the Pens need to start looking toward the future, and Geno still has some trade value left. He'd probably be agreeable to a trade to Washington, and I believe he'd be a good fit there.

The NHL has always been #4 of the 4 major North American sports leagues, and that won't be changing anytime soon, if ever.

Why is he a punk?

The franchise made it pretty clear they wanted to retain Crosby, Malkin and Letang. It is what it is.

Resigning Rust was a mistake but I don’t get paid to offer those contracts and make those decisions. I’m just a fan

Same as the popularity of the nhl. It’s had it’s chances to grow and has a cult following but even the ones in charge at league level screw the opportunities that arise

Why is he a punk?
Why is Jarry a punk?

I already told you -- because he spits during the national anthem.

Ok and?
Players do a lot of fiddling around during the anthem. They’re not intentionally drawing attention to themselves like kaepernick

Bullshlt. Nobody else fiddles around like Jarry does. Moving up the ice and back on his skates, playing around with his stick. Most guys are respectfully standing still, like they should be. And they're certainly not spitting while the anthem is playing. If my kid ever spit once, I guarantee he'd never do it ever again.

OK?

The camera doesn’t show Jarry nor do I really pay attention to what he does during the anthem.

He’s not your kid nor my kid. I really don’t have a strong opinion on this only because if it was such a big issue, it would be drawing some type of media attention given hockey’s demographics.

Does he have other character issues to label him a punk?
