If you're hiring an offensive head coach, why would you trade your best offensive weapon? Don't give me the "he's a cancer" nonsense. I'd be pissed too, he's widely considered one of the most talented WR in the league, and he gets on average 7 targets a game (this year, 6 on his career). For comparison sake, Jamar Chase averages 11 targets, Jefferson 10, hell Drake London averaged 10 targets a game this year. This is earlier than I wanted to do an offseason thread, but why not?
1. Trade Tomlin
I think you way undervalued Tomlin. I think a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is the starting point and that could be spread over multiple seasons.
Bears give Steelers #41, 2026 1st and 3rd
2. Hire Ben Johnson
I'm good with this one. The goal would to also be to add the best available OL coach and DC.
3. Sign either Russ to an incentive laid contract or Fields.
I'm good with this as well.
4. Trade George Pickens / Sign Chris Godwin
I'm looking to get a top 40 pick for Pickens. Let's go with #37 from Patriots for Pickens. Spotrac has Godwin at $22.6 million per year. A lot hinges on his recovery from an ankle injury, but he's only 28 and won't command what Higgins will get.
Draft-
RD1- Derrick Harmon, IDL, Oregon
I wanted to go CB here, I just don't know if that's where the value is. Harmon was one of a few bright spots for Oregon against Ohio State in the playoffs.
RD2a (from New England)- Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas
Productive cornerback who would be a playmaker for the defense.
RD2b (from Chicago)-
Tre Harris, WR, Ole Miss
Harris paired with Godwin on the outside and the combo of Austin/Wilson on the inside is a nice rebuild of the WR room.
RD2c- Trade for a 2026 2nd round pick
RD3- RJ Harvey, RB, UCF
Put him in the underrated category right now. Extremely productive and explosive. Has flashed potential catching the ball.
Wan'Dale Robinson, Keenan Allen, Tee Higgins, Josh Downs, Darnell Mooney, Puka Nacua (missed 6 games) all had more targets than Pickens. All but Puka are the second options in their offenses. I've said it before in other threads. But since AB, we don't know how to use a #1 WR. We shove Pickens out there in the same spots, don't put him in motion, don't stick him inside on bunches, there's no creativity to get him the ball. With our current skill players, Pickens should get 11-12 targets a game, and Muth should get 8-10 (he's currently getting 4.5). There's enough talent on this team now to be at least upper half of the league offensively. The problem is and always will be Tomlin's conservative approach to games. So if Tomlin is gone I'm not trading Pickens, period.
