Would love to see if there was much variance in the time to throw comparing when JF and Russ were back there.

That’s actually fairly decent considering how predictable the play calling was.

I was of the mind they needed to pick up a high end swing taskle. I think they have enough to evaluate and will find that guy already on the roster.

I remember reading initially one of the complaints about Russ was that he held onto the ball too long. I can only guess but I would think Fields would come out with the better statistic in comparison. But yeah that would be a nice view.
 
My guess is everyone knew when we were going to pass the ball and played more coverage. With our simplistic routes and fear of the middle QBs could not find an open guy.

Also Slash its on the FO in the type of QB they got. When they signed Russ and Justin, for both guys I mentioned that Steeler fans will get frustrated by the amount of sacks taken by those two.
Both QB’s were well known for this.
Fields has led the league in sacks, fumbles a ton and throws interceptions. And was horrible in the red zone. Never got the love here.
Russ has always ran into sacks his whole career.

Interested in th top 4 all sack leaders?

Aaron Rodgers #1. 571- 8245 pass attempts
Tom Brady #2. 565- 12050 attempts
Russ Wilson #3. 560- 6001 attempts
Big Ben #4. 554– 8443 attempts

Yes, obviously it’s a longevity stat. But still.

Here’s the average sack per pass attempt for each QB:





  • Russell Wilson: 0.0933 (most sacks per attempt)
  • Aaron Rodgers: 0.0693
  • Ben Roethlisberger: 0.0656
  • Tom Brady: 0.0469 (least sacks per attempt)







So Tom Brady was by far the best at avoiding sacks per pass attempt, while Russell Wilson took the most relative to his dropbacks.

Yes and then yiu can't necassarily go right to QB. The play and the receivers have to win unless you want tge qb to throw into coverage.

I also think that of thiose 4-QBs, Ben played with the overall worse OLs than any of the other three.

I know there is no stat to correlate, but over their careers, in my eyes, Ben played with the overall worse OLs .

Add in the last few years of scheme and cordinators……

I also know Ben’s style of play contributed heavily but also SAVED heavily as well.

Does IZ take into consideration the favored refs and calls ?

Does IZ note the years of tape and knowing defensive plays……………………..

I already know the IZ answer to all my questions and appreciate your using the IZ because it gives good perspective.

I just have a deep anti-t*mmyb*y feeling as he / patriot organization are the father of the destroyed NFL.

They can't sack you when the ball is gone quickly. When everything is precise timing drilled over and over it's hard to beat. Then they hit you over the top.

Thought this was an intehere's so much more to the time a QB has. What was the blitz percentage, and how does it compare to how often those same Ds blitz against other teams? How did it change when Russ replaced Fields and the D didn't have to account for a running QB the same way? How about OL injuries early in the season, but healthier later in the year, as rooks also settled in to the NFL?

Going by memory, I think that most teams applied pressure without blitzing. If that's the case then that more than offsets the extra few tenths of a second.

Russ didn't fear the middle so much as he couldn't see it. Fields didn't have the confidence to make anticipatory throws which you need to do over the middle. He wanted to throw to guys who were already open, his biggest failing. This is what I look forward to with Rodgers, his ability to anticipate the play and make the throw. I have said all along the line was far better than it was made to look by both the QB play and the play calling being limited by the QB play. I expect, if healthy, the line will be a strength this year and improve on their 18th ranking.
