Pickens being traded to Dallas?

The guy has a ton of talent but to selfish, I'll gladly take a 3rd for him. The offense was going to go no where with him causing issues every other week, especially now that he wasn't the #1 guy. Dumb timing, but they have their #1, and Arthur Smith isn't a 2 WR coordinator and neither is Tomlin.

Even if we were gonna go full tank... you trade guys to maximize asset value

Prior to the start of minicamp but after the draft is the absolute worse time to trade unless a mitigating situation forces it...

That is assuming there is a solid plan in place, questioning that at the moment.

Did people REALLY think they were going to pay him big $$$$? Took a lot of heat suggesting they trade him instead.

I guess this is as good as place as any for the apology line to start.

Who wants to go first?

Now Roger Woods signing makes more sense, Roman Wilson needs to impact.

Banking on an aging Woods and Wilson, who has done absolutely zero, is flawed strategy to improving the receiver room.

We brought in a guy that has less talent than Pickens as our 1 and luckily are only having to replace VJ production (which was abysmal) so they are right back where they started last season…almost

They needed to get rid of the locker room cancer, but this was probably the worst way to do it, after the draft and free agency. I wonder if they’re setting the stage for ARod and Adams.

Can’t get enough of paying a LB 40+ per that can easily be schemed out of games by idiotic deployments

If that is the strategy, the strategy blows

Pickens contract costs Pennies and the return is basically the comp return they would have got…only they don’t get the cheap 1 year rental.

Mind you, the team they are trading with gave up pick 114 for freakin’ Mingo last year…but all they can get for GP is a 3rd.

This is a **** the bed move

There is a well established template for this...
A. Draft a problem Wr ( many are headcases)
B. Get early return on investment
C. Ignore his problems while his value is maximized
D. Trade him below market when things start to really fall apart

Santonio, Antonio, Bryant, Claypool, DJ... now Pickens... its a thing... and there are more... thats the obvious list
Agree in general except for Claypool who was traded for a kings ransom

No doubt.

They signed the veteran FA first. They spent a 3rd last year on a WR that we have yet to really see on the field. 2024 draft had a deep WR class. Roman was always a "Tomlin has a boner guy," If he was available, they were picking him.

Late last year Pickens really started becoming unglued. How will he respond when the pressure is on in a contract year? Will he make it through the season without hurting his value? Will he shine, or will he get suspended?

It is either get the guaranteed 3 now and forego the 2025 season, or get the maybe 3 in 2027 and take your chances on Pickens in 2025. A one in the hand vs 2 in the bush scenario.

I see their rationale, and they see a lot more than I do......

Stats state otherwise. When Smith has two good WRs he has a 2 WR offense.

Exactly. Why bring in DK and why no WR in the draft? Is Pickens that much of a head case that they needed to cut ties?

Tomlin gets rid of anyone that sees the franchise for what it is and decides they aren't going to work hard to win because Tomlin isn't doing it. We are in purgatory until this lazy buffoon is GONE.

assuming your logic holds, and it seems likely, why the hell wouldn't they have done this a month ago or two weeks ago to grab a replacement wr in draft?

They just let the WR2 get empty AFTER the draft, and after FA.

Maybe there was an event we don't know about, but it is abundantly clear that the Steelers WR room has been a mess for a very long time, since Shades put Hines in the doghouse and let the Young Money bs run wild.

Maybe Aiyuk is available too?

This resembles a long term shitshow more than a well-planned professional approach.

i dont believe Tomlin had his fingerprints on this. We had a plethora of diva WRs under Tomlin - and he was able to manage their drama. Maybe Mike sees that two diva WRs is too much, but I doubt it. I believe this is an Omar move.

Thing is, if we keep purging locker room cancers, why do we continue to draft them? Though I do not see that the past couple drafts have yielded any attitude issues.

A third rounder next year is the equivalent of a 4th rounder this year. I’m wondering if the off-field Pickens behavior was even worse than the on-field Pickens behavior and the entire league was privy to it? The timing and return suggests the Steelers had little leverage and they realized it when they couldn’t move him during the draft.

Add in that George could have easily requested a trade. We don’t want hostages scenario.

In any event they went from a very formidable le WR duo to what ???????????

I think the urgency of the trade made for the short order of return. I’d guessed a 2nd or a 3rd this upcoming draft and a 5 (straight) in 2027.

Salute the nation

There was literally nothing exciting about this team but the possibility of this wide receiver duo. Now there’s just nothing.
Pickens is an idiot and they weren't going to pay him but it's absurd not to get a receiver in the draft. But as long as Tomlin is here it's all about try to win in the last 3 minutes and holding the other team under 20. Sigh.

Now we're back where we were last year. Why the F didn't they get this done (and preferably for a 2nd) before or during the draft? Or, wait until closer to the trade deadline when some desperate team might pay more. This is as f'd up as it gets. Kahn and Tomlin have royally screwed the pooch 2 years in a row. This year now with both WR and QB.

And, now, why bother even considering bringing in Rodgers. He has no one to throw to. We have a WR1 and a bunch of WR3's, 4's, and 5's. This is DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!

so now we have these 3rd round picks:

Our own
Dallas
Comp for Russ
Comp for Fields
Comp for the revolving door at LT
Comp for Najee

no way we fucck this up, right? right?
