Now Roger Woods signing makes more sense, Roman Wilson needs to impact.
Even if we were gonna go full tank... you trade guys to maximize asset value
Prior to the start of minicamp but after the draft is the absolute worse time to trade unless a mitigating situation forces it...

Banking on an aging Woods and Wilson who has done absolutely zero is flawed strategy to improving the receiver room.
We brought in a guy that has less talent than Pickens as our 1 and luckily are only having to replace VJ production which was abysmal so they are right back where they started last season…almost
Agree in general except for Claypool who was traded for a kings ransomThere is a well established template for this...
A. Draft a problem Wr ( many are headcases)
B. Get early return on investment
C. Ignore his problems while his value is maximized
D. Trade him below market when things start to really fall apart
Santonio, Antonio, Bryant, Claypool, DJ... now Pickens... its a thing... and there are more... thats the obvious list
No doubt.Banking on an aging Woods and Wilson who has done absolutely zero is flawed strategy to improving the receiver room.

Stats state otherwise. When Smith has two good WRs he has a 2 WR offense. The guy has a ton of talent but to selfish, I'll gladly take a 3rd for him. The offense was going to go no where with him causing issues every other week, especially now that he wasn't the #1 guy. Dumb timing, but they have their #1, and Arthur Smith isn't a 2 WR coordinator and neither is Tomlin.
Exactly. Why bring in DK and why no WR in the draft? Is Pickens that much of a head case that they needed to cut ties?
assuming your logic holds, and it seems likely, why the hell wouldn't they have done this a month ago or two weeks ago to grab a replacement wr in draft? No doubt.
They signed the veteran FA first. They spent a 3rd last year on a WR that we have yet to really see on the field. 2024 draft had a deep WR class. Roman was always a "Tomlin has a boner guy," If he was available, they were picking him.
Late last year Pickens really started becoming unglued. How will he respond when the pressure is on in a contract year? Will he make it through the season without hurting his value? Will he shine, or will he get suspended?
It is either get the guaranteed 3 now and forego the 2025 season, or get the maybe 3 in 2027 and take your chances on Pickens in 2025. A one in the hand vs 2 in the bush scenario.
I see their rationale, and they see a lot more than I do......
No doubt.

Pickens is an idiot and they weren't going to pay him but it's absurd not to get a receiver in the draft. But as long as Tomlin is here it's all about try to win in the last 3 minutes and holding the other team under 20. Sigh. There was literally nothing exciting about this team but the possibility of this wide receiver duo. Now there’s just nothing.
