Pickens needs to STFU

Did he have similar behavioral issues while at UGA? If he didn’t, maybe it was because they were winning championships over there and now he has to play on a team that isn’t winning much. He runs the risk of becoming the next NFL diva, ala T.O., Dez Bryant, Ochocinco, Keyshawn “throw me the damn ball!”, etc. if he doesn’t get his head on straight. Try this: go to your WR coach, QB, OC, and let them know what you’re seeing in the defense, what coverage they’re putting on you, their weaknesses from your pov, make suggestions, etc. Throwing a tantrum brings no constructive results. I’m sure all good WRs want more targets… then instead of crying about it like a petulant child who doesn’t get his way, be a team player and rally those around you to support you.

There’s no doubting his incredible natural talent. But what this young man needs – and soon – is someone to mentor him (paging Mr. Ward) to not only teach the position but a few life lessons. I don’t know anything about Frisman Jackson so I can’t speak to his ability to fill this role. Cam and other team leaders only have so much time during a game/season to talk to the kid… he needs a one-on-one mentor.
I’d say he learned it from watching DJ and whining sure got him extra looks so he’d be a fool not to speak in this dumb *** coaching staff’s language and whine when he’s disgruntled

Well then, he's chosen the wrong WR to emulate. Someone should point him to guys like Larry Fitzgerald who had incredible talent but held their emotions in check. I agree that this coaching staff - at least from this TV viewer's point of view - is not taking advantage of coaching these young men up, much less putting forth a decent game plan. But someone should remind him that (should he play out his entire 4 year rookie contract with the Steelers) he will have a total of 68 regular season games to prove his talents. He's only played in only 18% of those 68 games... there's no need to go off bombastically especially since it's his rookie season. You can just imagine how us regular joes would fare in our jobs if we complained like whining little babies during our first year. We'd be put in our place, right quick.

Pickens had TWO targets all game.

TWO.

Johnson had 11.

Pickens had every right to be pissed. Especially when some of the replays showed him getting behind the coverage.

that said, its sometimes hard to tell during replays if the guy is open before the ball is thrown or if its before Pickett had to check down. Though sometimes Pickett will need to let the dude just go get the ball, and not be as conservative.

Pickens has a right to be frustrated, but he has not handled it well all season. For all the chirping he was doing, he did drop at least 2 balls last week. It is hard to tell how open someone is at times, but he should be given more 50/50 balls. He was not grading out as being open, but was near the top in contested catches

I think he was just pissed because he started himself in fantasy football. He’s probably not as pissed as me because I cut DJ to pick him up and then started him over Devonta Smith.

Tomlin need to have a one on one and get it a crossed you're a rookie, win is more important than your stats.

George Pickens is a very energentic raw kid that wants to play, win and wants to be an integral part of that team effort. What you are seeing is his immaturity but he is a kid (21 years old)....cut the young man some slack. You will forget about all this when he really starts to produce and pay dividends. If you wanna talk about a guy who had attitude problems as a rookie.......anyone remember Mean Joe Greene as a rookie? He was uncontrollable! Even his own teammates FEARED the guy!
The difference being that Chuck Noll was Greene’s coach while Mike Tomlin is Pickens’ coach.

There is a very big difference between Joe Greene hating the culture of a losing team and a petulant receiver ***** for the ball in a game his team never trailed in. Very big difference. In fact my opinion is that players that ***** about role when they win are beyond hope.

Oh and you can add this on to last week's comment of essentially saying the Georgia Bulldogs defense is as good as the Steelers. For the love of God why can't Tomlin connect with these guys and shut this **** down.

Replay makes it look like guys more often than they actually are. I haven't watched back yet, but I've seen a few mention the Falcons took Pickens out of the game, including this Steelers reporter.

At 71, and a life long Stillers fan (remember John Henry Johnson), I think some perspective on this "Pickens need to STFU" would help.

If the GREAT teams of the 70s had as many cameras on them as these players do now I think we might have a different attitude about some of the players.

Coach Tomlins handling of this has been brilliant. Like others, I have criticized him before, but on this matter, his words AND support of George Pickens have been classic.

Pickens wants to win. Telling him to STFU really doesn't help when you look at the stats of the game and how many times he was thrown to.

The trick is to keep him motivated and playing hard.

Is he dogging it on the field? NO!

Is he double teamed a lot? YES!

I think, perhaps the poster is fearful that he will turn into another AB. I hope not.

A good sign is he had stayed off of social media and refused interviews (would AB have done that?).

Cut the kid some slack.

The Chief didn't give up on Fats Holmes when he had his outbursts. He got help.

The issue is that when Ben left that “throw at single coverage and if they pick it off, **** it” play left with him… because we avoided the middle of the field so much the past couple years, safeties often show disguised look then break over to the sidelines where we like to go… other times they fake that… ben is 100% correct that occasionally when you read him in single coverage, you just have to throw it and trust him to come down with it…

Dude needs to chill. It is a hell of a lot easier to play WR/RB as a rookie than it is to play QB

This is a work in progress

In the Steelers offense, when does the Z receiver get more targets than the X over the course of a season? It doesn't happen.

DJ is a better route runner, and gets open more than George. The X receiver is schemed to get more targets in the Steelers' offense.

And since you think DJ drops more passes, you're wrong there too.

DJ: 105 targets, 61 receptions, 4 drops

GP: 61 targets, 37 receptions, 4 drops

George nearly has twice the drop rate per reception than DJ.

One thing I will say about Pickens is that guy suffered from anxiety. He did his Press conference with his hood over his head and balaclava over his face. I highly doubt it's anxiety about playing football bit that is not regular. I'm not an expert but know enough.

The Steelers dismissed it to being a competitor, obviously. No matter what you want to call it, it did exhibit a big of that diva behavior that too many receivers have.

Pickens just needs a little maturity and NFL experience to get to where he needs to be.

I watched that interview and you can see he is in over his head on how he presents himself and that’s clearly a sign of immaturity, regardless of his years of age. he will get there.

GottA love his hunger though, more on the team need that.

Salute the nation

I would draft him again in the 2nd round. He will be worth it

Not a fan of his interview. Very unprofessional. He'd be all smiles with no hood or mask covering his bottom lip if he had 120yds and 2TDs.
Ehh he is young just finding his way after a rough day. Credit ray ray with six tackles,

hey.

We could certainly use a Fitz in the WR room…or maybe a guy like Hines as OC???

I believe Hines was going to come and coach here but decided not to after being told basically AB will be AB and do as he pleases.
