Definitely, as it should be. I don't expect Trubisky to have a short leash but if we are in the back half of the season and going nowhere, Tomlin absolutely should look to bring Pickett in. They drafted him for a reason.

I wonder if there was owner intervention here? You just don’t make clerical errors like that. Geez! They can’t get that simple task done correctly tells me a lot about the dis function within this organization under coach cool shades.

I am certainly not a Rudolph fan, but the team has handled that whole situation poorly. Mason never had a shot to win the QB job unless Mitch and Pickett were absolutely terrible. Then they give him the #2 job for a few days before moving him to #3. Just seems like an a- hole move. I can see mason pulling a james Harrison. In the end I think the Steelers now have the correct order. KP at #3 made no sense just for reps / learning purposes. Even if they had no desire to play him he needs practice reps / exp. He would not get that at #3.

Couldn't disagree more. Mason had more of a shot than either of those two have had combined. He had several years here as well as a season as the starter and he did not impress the coaches enough to keep them from signing a vet QB to start and draft a QB to replace that vet long term. I read the narrative as 4th year vet can't beat out rookie and third chance Vet.

Mason will get his chance after this season to see if any team will sign him to compete for a starting job. If not, he could be like Batch and sign here again and make a few million per to be the No. 2 guy. It's a good living and he doesn't have to get beat up on the field. If Pickett ascends to QB1 as is expected, Trubisky is gone after next year or even this year if we can sign Rudolph as a backup and trade Trubisky. You never know.

That's stretching it. Especially since one would assume that a secretary or some other support staff actually does the listing of the depth chart on the website, etc.

Wouldn’t you think Tomlin would take a final look?

Mason if anything has been the consummate professional here. Mason will go about his business this season, make 3 million dollars, sign with a new team in 2023.
If I were an NFL head coach I’d take him in a second to be my backup and spot starter if injury to my starter. Good backups are hard to find. Mason will land on his feet some where else and hope he does well.

You go around micromanaging your employees about simple tasks? Makes for a long work day when you feel like you have to do that. As a matter of fact, if they can't handle simple tasks without micromanaging, why employ them?
I'm sure he'll be double-checking from now on though.

Better hope they never make a screw up when they place a player on waivers. That could really leave a mark.

Rudolph is a professional and is getting paid the same regardless, it’s not like he’s a high school senior.

I'm not saying he didn't get a shot, i am referring to this year. After Mitch and Pickett were signed telling mason it was a qb competition was wrong. Making him QB#2 for a couple days was just dumb. I just feel he was yanked around this year and I don't even think mason is an average backup. Ultimately the Steelers made the right move team wise i just think they should have let mason try to catch on somewhere else
