Pickett is the backup- not Rudy

You think Tomlin just did this troll the rabidly hateful fans? Mike says to himself lets just stir up the **** for a night just to **** with these morons.
I would. But then again, I'm not coaching an NFL "benchmark" team.

Mason will get his chance after this season to see if any team will sign him to compete for a starting job. If not, he could be like Batch and sign here again and make a few million per to be the No. 2 guy. It's a good living and he doesn't have to get beat up on the field. If Pickett ascends to QB1 as is expected, Trubisky is gone after next year or even this year if we can sign Rudolph as a backup and trade Trubisky. You never know.
If I were mason would not sign with the Steelers...

I'm not saying he didn't get a shot, i am referring to this year. After Mitch and Pickett were signed telling mason it was a qb competition was wrong. Making him QB#2 for a couple days was just dumb. I just feel he was yanked around this year and I don't even think mason is an average backup. Ultimately the Steelers made the right move team wise i just think they should have let mason try to catch on somewhere else
He was QB #2 and the 1st round draft pick came in and made a case for himself and bumped him to number 3. My whole point is that he should have known he was on the hot seat the min that the team brought in not 1 but 2 qb's to compete. The fact is Mason had a fair shot he just isn't that good. We can debate all day long how after hit's he isnt the same and all that. The fact is that his current state of play is just not that great. Trubisky is the best QB on the roster at the moment, Pickett appears to be the real deal and will most likely take over this year or next (Trubisky still has experience that gives him an edge currently). And Mason will be looking for another team to be the backup or practice squad QB for. Also lets not forget Mason is being paid like 4 million to probably not even dress for games. He did not get screwed or led on by the team. There was no pre conceived notion that he was gonna be the 3rd QB all along. They would not have signed him to that extension or pay the extra 3 million to keep him around cause they knew all along he was not in their plans. They didn't expect Pickett to be this good this fast and they probably hoped that Mason might show some of what they saw in him when they drafted him. He's just not that good he really isn't. When playing against good teams he is slow and takes too long and just isn't a starting caliber QB (would have been great for us if he was).

Trubisky is from Mentor Ohio, near Cleveland. Heard a Cleveland sports talk guy talk about Trubisky today. He said he watched Trubisky light it up in high school, and then described how great he was in college. The bottom line was that a QB's success is highly dependent on where he lands. Chicago wasn't the right fit for Trubisky. He goes on to say that he will be a stud in Pittsburgh.
If him becoming a star in Black and Gold should come to fruition, what do we do about Pickett?

Lmao
That’s a fluid depth chart

What the hell is going on over there?

This has me hoping Bush falls a spot tomorrow though😎 I know it’s just a pipe dream

A lot of "dreams" have come out of a pipe, just sayiN

Mitch has a two year contract. As long as Pickett stays healthy he will either 1) be gone after next season or 2) decide he likes the 'Burgh and Primanti's sammiches and a decent paycheck as a backup QB/asst QB coach a la Charlie Batch and hang around.

I like this line of thinking, good things will happen when Pickett takes over but that doesn't mean bad things will happen until then. Trubisky will do rather well and Kenny is about a year out barring injury. Hell KP may even be further out pending on Mitch's performability.

Pickett has looked good in his limited time but has a ton to prove... History shows it's not always a given or that he will be a franchise guy. He could end up being the next Trubisky.

The mental gymnastics trying to justify Rudolph as the No. 2 yesterday was something. This makes sense.

Hopefully sit him like Aaron Rodgers and/or Steve Young...

If KP is put in in place of Mitch T, he would have zero trade value. Mason keeping his mouth shut and not becoming a distraction is in his best interests.

Well being one for him got him no where.
Sure it did. It got him a chance to start and a paycheck. Not getting the logic here, a player should be disgruntled when they don't get their way? You sure have some cooch type opinions no wonder you gravitate towards him.

Does it really matter who is backup. Tomlin will not put Pickett in till he is ready, or the season is over. No sense in putting in him in a failure situation, we have seen too many teams do this and a year later QB gone. Mason has got to be the most disrespected mistreated QB the Steelers have ever had. Yes, he may not be some super star but really this organization and especially Tomlin has handled it poorly. He should fake an ankle injury collect his money and live a good life.

How so? They drafted him. They developed him. They allowed him to start when Ben was hurt instead of going out and trying to pick up a guy with more experience; they trusted Rudolph with the keys to the Benz. They allowed him to compete with Trubisky and Pickett. In their evaluation for present and future purposes, he didn't warrant being either QB1 or QB2.
So, exactly how did they handle it improperly? What were they supposed to do, not bring in any competition and just say "The job belongs to Mason?"

That's the thing, Mason had the chance to make that a reality before Ben retired, he never did, which is why they went out and got a veteran with upside and drafted a QB in the first round. If Rudolph showed himself to be a very possible successor, the steelers would've signed a backup capable veteran and maybe drafted a QB only later in the draft instead of the first pick.

Definitely, it was clear.

With that said, because I personally haven't said it enough, Mason has handled this entire offseason incredibly well and I do like him as a player. The situation in Pittsburgh just didn't allow for a larger role this season so whether it is this season via trade or next year, I hope he lands in a good situation where he can have success.

Once a Steeler, always a Steeler. And, Mason has handled the situation with class; unlike some in the past. So, I do wish him success wherever he lands and however he gets there.

I know he wants to play. 4M is a lot of money just to hold a clipboard. Easy money. It doesn't happen often outside of Washington D.C. Take it while you can get it Mason.
I'd do that gig in a flash with a big fat smile. I'd be investing wisely in the process of being a millionaire cheerleader. Talk about hitting the life lottery. "Money for nothing and your chick's for free..."
