Post Ben Mock - a different take

So the Steelers never trade this year's picks for future picks since this year's team is really good. Why play for tomorrow when you have a HOF QB, right? That is no longer true and in fact, the team does not have a good QB on the roster and is not going to get a good QB in this draft. Time to move the chips into the center of the table to set the team up for the future. I know, they won't, they will run to the podium to get some guys that are good and a lot that are mediocre. But **** it, this is MY mock to I get quality players who will help build the team for 2023 and beyond and set up for a massive push in 2023 for the next great Steelers QB.

28. Kaiir Elam CB Florida Big, good hands, excels in man coverage. Finally, a big CB who can match up with guys like Chase.
54. Daniel Faalele T Minnesota Massive RT. Take a hike, Okorafor.
66. Chad Muma LB Wyoming Big guy, solid tackler. Not great in coverage but he is replacing Spillane, so big deal.
91. Luke Goedeke T Central Michigan Really good LT prospect. Gave up 0 sacks in more than 400 pass plays last season. I think at some point, Faalele moves to RG, Goedeke moves to LT, Moore moves to RT and the running game will stomp opponents.

Four picks in the first 3 rounds. Four players who look to me like NFL starters. Three key positions addressed and improved immediately.

Oh, and I also picked up Miami's 2nd round pick, Buffalo's 3rd round pick, Las Vegas' 3rd round pick, and Detroit's 4th round pick while giving up the Steelers 2023 4th rounder.

The team now has 6 of the first 90 or so selections in 2023. That gives the club draft capital to move up and get their QB.

I went trade crazy - it'll never happen but I shored up all the holes...

Your score is: 55827 (GRADE: A)

Your Picks:

Round 1 Pick 29 (K.C.): Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia (A) - There will be no more running up the middle for 20 yard gains for 5 years
Round 2 Pick 22 (S.F.): Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota (A+) - BPA and should quickly replace Chuks
Round 2 Pick 29 (K.C.): Malik Willis, QB, Liberty (A+) - BPA and the kid could be special...
Round 3 Pick 23 (L.V.): Henry To'o To'o, ILB/OLB, Alabama (A) - Bye bye Devin Bush. Time for a real ILB
Round 3 Pick 29 (K.C.): Channing Tindall, ILB/OLB, Georgia (A+) - More support at OLB is a need
Round 4 Pick 22 (S.F.): Nick Broeker, OG, Ole Miss (A+) - Exit stage left for Trai Turner please and thank you
Round 4 Pick 23 (L.V.): Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson (A+) - Need for speed
Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Bryan Cook, FS/SS, Cincinnati (A+) - This kid should make the team and can help Edmunds
Round 5 Pick 22 (S.F.): Alex Forsyth, C/OG, Oregon (A+) - Green needs to bulk up all offseason and we need help in the middle
Round 5 Pick 35 (COMP): Jerrion Ealy, RB, Ole Miss (A+) - Here's some lightning to Najee's thunder
Round 7 Pick 4: Cameron Latu, TE, Alabama (A+) - STEAL OF THE DRAFT; he'll compliment Muth for the next 10 years
Round 7 Pick 20: Damarion Williams, CB, Houston (A+) - Houston always has good DB's and this will make Coolie happy

This is a pretty exciting draft. All four have pretty big upside, however, I don't see Faalele moving inside because of his height. That isn't much of a problem because he seems like he can be a dominant run blocker.

Yeah, not many 6'9" guards in the NFL, no doubt. I personally believe Dan Moore, Jr. is an NFL-caliber tackle, just not convinced his is a LT.

You know what, Goedeke was a quality tackle in college but looks like a guy who would be a very good NFL guard. Great footwork, strong, moves well, blocks in space.

You convinced me. Put Goedeke at LG since he can pull and move in space. Keep Moore at LT and root for him to improve against speed rush. Put Faalele at RT.

And find some solution at C.

I kind of feel the same way about Moore. Even with his struggles, people still believe in him. A worry I have in him switching to RT is he expressed how challenging it was when they put him there in training camp. It's not an easy switch to make and not every player can make it.

Might be a perfect draft

Steelers trade #20 for #33 & #65

#33 Nicholas Petit-Frere OT OSU
Petit-Frere has LT athleticism but relies on that too much. Will need to refine his technique but he could be a pro bowl blindside tackle for a decade.

#52 Kenny Pickett QB Pitt
I’m not so keen on going QB in round one but if we make a trade and get a tackle I would be more open to it. Pickett really put it together this last year. Watching the tape he made quicker decisions and put the ball in position for his receivers to make play. Wasn’t the most accurate or best arm but enough of both.

#65 Kyler Gordon CB Washington
Physically as gifted as they come. Gordon should run 4.3 with a 40”+ vertical. But he’s not just a physical specimen he’s been a good starter for the Huskies and due to his counterpart gets tested. He wins more than he loses and his upside is unbelievable.

#84 Arnold Ebiketie Edge PSU
Was a nightmare rushing the passer for the nittany lions. Unbelievable dip and first step. Steelers really lost a lot when TJ and Highsmith gets a breather and Ebiketie should be what the Steelers hoped Ingram would be.

#97 Rasheed Walker OT PSU
Walker was one of the few bright spots on the nittany lions offensive line. He’s an extremely athletic man for his size and as a former d-lineman just starting to realize his potential. This should sure up both tackle spots and kick Moore into guard to hopefully sure up the LG spot.

#177 Kolby Harvell-Peel S Oklahoma State
Harvell-Peel is more cerebral than athletic but I feel should be able to backup both safety positions. I think Norwood probably starts and Edmunds leaves via free agency.

#191 Kyle Philips WR UCLA
Quick twitch athlete who’s dangerous with the ball. Good hands and above average route runner. Should immediately become our slot receiver over Ray-Ray.

#224 Neil Farrell Jr. DL LSU
Little later than I wanted to get a defensive lineman but so many needs and not enough picks. Farrell jr. Flashes when he gets low and can stack and shed or split double teams. But he needs to get more consistent. Hopefully tutelage of Alualu and Heyward maybe he becomes something in a year or two.

#240 Blaise Andries OG Minnesota
Really didn’t find a center that I loved but I’m hoping JC can continue to improve and at the very least should be consistent at snapping and calling line adjustments. Andries is a mountain of a man and should pair nicely next to JC helping him with your 0 techniques that lineup on the center. Green I have hope for but not just as a center. I let him try several interior positions and just get comfortable. Maybe a good off-season and year being a swing interior lineman helps him. I did like Green as a 5th round project. I think Colbert tried getting too cute grabbing him early to fill a need.

every site has Pickett as a top Kiper, as usual, has hyped some players. Have been reading on Willis is raw but has all the good attributes Kordell did scrambling ability, strong arm, evade rushers, but his mechanics would need a year to 1.5 with a clipboard.
Ojabo is also very raw is stricly a rusher I think at the combine teams will see and he will to the bottom of round lacks the bulk to be a force vs the run. Kiper also has him higher than others.
Why I bring up Kordell is it is known he didn't study film and he just winged up on his athletic ability if he had not perhaps we don't lose the 97 AFCTG and the 01 and had better 98/99 results.

Round 1 Pick 20: Kenyon Green, OG/OT, Texas A&M (A) massive bulldozer can put him at RG or RT, you restructure Banner get him to shed 10 LBS and compete with Green for RG
Round 2 Pick 20: Malik Willis, QB, Liberty (A+) you sign Mariota or Foles while you wait until he is ready
Round 3 Pick 20: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State (A+) solid IQ player who will start at slot right away and perhaps challenge Desir or Witherspoon on the outside by year 2.
Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Henry To'o To'o, ILB/OLB, Alabama (A+) solid all-around LB
Round 6 Pick 4 (HOU): Andrew Stueber, OT/OG, Michigan (A+) mean nasty SOB could start at RG asap if you keep Green at C
Round 6 Pick 31 (HOU): Charleston Rambo, WR, Miami (A) was hoping Eiligh from Coastal Carolina would be here kid has serious speed and has been a TD machine for the Pirates, could have the impact say Hardman or Cobb had early
Round 7 Pick 4: D'Vonte Price, RB, Florida International (A+) Scat back to replace Ballage and compete with Mcfarland
Round 7 Pick 20: Eyioma Uwazurike, DT, Iowa State (A) massive frame to add depth at NG

The mocks make one thing abundantly clear: the Steelers have a LOT of holes to fill. Get OT, QB, CB, DL? What about ILB, G and S? Get OT, CB, ILB, S? Yeah, great, what about G, QB and DL??

Two quick points. Pickett will be gone in the top 10, top 15 at the very latest. DL and OL are by far our No. 1A and 1B needs. ILB is probably next. No way am I even considering a CB in round 1 and I hope the Steelers don't either. Not just because it's not a top need but we absolutely suck at drafting top CB's over the last decade plus.
