Interesting blurb I read from Lolley over at DK's site. It appears that the Steelers have offered the Asst. OL Coach job to multiple people and been turned down. The reason? Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada's less than stellar rep as a communicator/people person.
*I do wonder who the former Steeler is that turned them down.

" I'm told the Steelers have offered their assistant offensive line coach job to a number of people, including a former Steelers player, and they have all turned it down. The reason? Matt Canada. Canada's lack of communication with his staff has leaked out and people don't want the job. Somebody will eventually take it. But it will likely be a person who is looking to make the jump from college to the NFL. -- Lolley"

Very interested to see who the former player was. I would assume it is a player who is currently coaching.

I was thinking maybe Foster. But, who knows.
Another interesting (i.e. CRAZY) tidbit from that article was that:

" Canada's lack of communication with his staff is the reason why Chris Morgan, who bumped up to head offensive line coach from the assistant job when Adrian Klemm left for Oregon in season, left to take the same job with the Bears. As I reported late last season, Canada doesn't watch film during game-planning sessions with his assistants, instead watching it on his own and then sending them notes about what he wants to do. -- Lolley"

If that's true, it's just ridiculous.

Why again is Matt still OC?

The fruitless and sometimes poisoned coaching tree of Mike Tomlin. If this **** is true you gotta be kidding me. WTF would you keep a guy like that with the offensive production you got last year. Honestly in the first half it was as bad as anything I've ever seen. If this **** is true and Tomlin isn't job hunting someone please explain why.

That's why I wanted Canada gone by week 4 last season.

If they are having difficulties hiring Assistant coaches then maybe something is wrong, specialy when more than one gives the same reasoning.

Thanks for the article SteelBuckey !!! I know we all want to know who the STEELERS guy was but the bigger problem is Canada himself.

PITTSBURGH use to be the place EVERYONE wanted to go.!

It's not like the team wouldn't have known this prior to hiring him. He worked across the hall with Pitt for a year and recruited Tomlin's son to Maryland. He also had a reputation as being a hard coach to work with.

I thought maybe Foster and he would be a very good inside source for DK. I don't think Jeff Hartings would want to coach in the NFL. Is it possible Faneca considered getting into coaching? He'd probably have some inside information on Canada from his one season at LSU.

I think we all agree that Canada has shown absolutely nothing that says he is or can be an effective NFL Offensive Coordinator. Throw in what seems to be an attitude problem that alienates his assistants, and I have to wonder why he's still here. Folks say "Tomlin". I say ART ll's reluctance to actually fire someone before their contract runs out. And, I say that cheap *** attitude hurts the team. But, Deuce doesn't care because Steelers merch sells; even if attendance is down.

Don't think it was Faneca. He actually moved to the MD/DC/VA area because the Dr.s he trusts to treat his child's ailment are there. Plus, he has said that his number one priority is his kid and the foundation that he runs for children/families in similar situations.

I do think it was Foster because every time Canada is mentioned on the podcast he does with DK, Ramone just laughs/grimaces ... that thing folks do when they have an opinion, but don't really want to rock the boat.

I agree with what you are saying but it's on Tomlin first and if he can't see it then Art Duece needs to make him see it. Cowher fired Sherman (i think it was) mid season and didn't miss a beat. I'm pretty sure Canada could have been releived and we would have increased our offensive output.

The big difference is that Canada is Tomlin's friend, ask Bubbles about being a friend job security................... it's the best ever

Cowher fired Sherman when Dan was running the show. It seems that Art ll won't allow assistants/coordinators to be fired before their contracts run out. That's not on Tomlin. It's a failure from the very top. We've seen this pattern with Art over and over. It actually leaves Tomlin one of two choices: 1) Call out the owner and get fired (although Art may just let his contract run out; leaving him as a lame duck) or 2) Toe the company line and act like everything is "A-OK".

So little was made of the revelation that both Canada and Klemm wanted to replace tge struggling Green at center by midseason and were overruled

I still doubt tge oc on this team has any more power than the dc does…

Jeff Hartings is a HC for a high school. He was a technician as a player, the type that usually makes a good position coach.

I remember reading that Canada's system has a lot to do with the blocking scheme. It may be a situation where he is drawing up blocking combos that won't work in the NFL and he doesn't want to hear otherwise. Probably why most OL coaches want no part of trying to coach square pegs into round holes.

Maybe we'll have to start a trucker convoy to protest Canada

I would imagine he has the power to meet with his assistants. He chooses not to. That's on Canada.

Better guys have been run out of town for less IF true. Not sure what anyone sees in him?

It had to be Foster. He works with DK and Lolly. (And I also happen to be part of the DK Podcast Network).

Foster would have been a nice addition. Team guy, Steeler way, went from an UDRFA to starting his rookie year when the Steelers drafted a guard Kraig Urbik in the 2nd round. That's a big deal, beating out a 2nd rounder your rookie year to become a decade long starter.

What is the Steeler way? Does anyone know anymore? If the dumbassery we’ve seen the last few years, including the information in this article, is the Steeler way, here’s hoping they find a new way.

The steeler way is holding up 8-8 seasons, squeaking into a wildcard and getting bounced out like it was a Lombardi. What is worse are the fans that buy into it.

Guys I don’t think it’s Ramon. He’s got the radio gig every morning in Nashville and still has ties to the Vols network. Plus his DK show is daily now too. He’s has kids in with select ball teams too. At least he was streaming with DK during one of his kids tournament.

Personally, I think the coach identified might be Hank Fraley.

Hank Fraley is Detroit's offensive line coach. He wasn't going to take a demotion to come to the Steelers.

Canada better make this offense look like world beaters or him and Tomlin will be tarred & feathered in front of Heinz Field. I think it was a horrible hire and then to keep him on as OC, it better work.

We are all shaking our heads on why Canada is still here. Tomlin for some reason cannot see the game today , new thoughts and new blood is need in Steererland
