We saw him move the needle during the season last year. He kept that team together when many on here thought he had lost it and even managed to get Canadas head pulled a little out of his *** late in the season. Regardless of the Standard being the Standard it has been very difficult the last 10 years to truly maintain that standard while trying to fill the backend and even the middle of the roster with the scraps left over from Ben's contract. We now get to see what he and Omar can do building a team with some resources to be able to withstand a few injuries. Lack of depth has killed us in playoff runs the last 10 years. That and frankly Tomlin got some teams into the playoffs that probably shouldn't have been there.I am clearly on the fence with Tomlin. I think he is a special coach but that does not mean a lifetime appointment if the results aren't being seen. I think one can hold both those views.
However, he has often been quoted in some form or the other saying you are either ascending or descending in this game. The obvious intent of that is letting players know they better not be descending. Does that also apply to the coach?
I agree with this. I gotta say, I am more intrigued about a Steeler season than I have been in years. Let's see where this goes. Like I said, he is a special coach and it could be exciting. However I also feel that results need to be seen over the next few years or it is time to go in a new direction. We saw him move the needle during the season last year. I agree. Way too much stuff going on to micromanage. A HC's main job is to set the direction and oversee everything. I just wish he'd hire better assistant coaches sometimes.I think at this level it really isn't about the HC chess ability unless they are calling the plays on offense or setting the defense. Though I think Tomlins fingerprints are on defense. I think it's about creating culture which he is good at and attracting the chess playing assistants and coordinators which he is not.
and you remain woefully below standardI expect making the playoffs almost every year and wining a playoff game every other year. That is not too much for a Steeler fan to ask? It will be at least seven years until we win a playoff game. Is there another head coach alive in the NFL who has this dubious record? No. Mike Tomlin, you suck.
The standard remains the standard.
neither of the clips I posted were "chearleading"Cheerleaders can cheerlead. Rah Rah and all that ****. If only it were a "reasonable expectation" from Art Deuce to have a Coach who could win championships...or win a ******* playoff game?
I am middle of the pack in regards to Tomlin but thought that was special. Anything that teaches a man for his betterment can't be bad. This is the times I have learned to separate what I want from him as a coach and what he does as a man. There is things in life to cheer for, this one one of them.neither of the clips I posted were "cheerleading"
he was teaching them the right way to approach the game and life

Sorry Coolie, you teach young men leading by example. If I were to run my mouth about being better everyday and setting the bar higher everyday and then I as a Coach, need to DO or ACT as I preach. He doesn't. All he does is give speeches. He's great during press conferences. interviews, team speeches as we just saw. He's cheerleading.exactly
This post is not about him being a great coach, it is about him teaching young men the right way to do things
Say he does try but has topped out on his X and O capability. Should he not teach those in need? For me any of Tomlin's short comings doesn't result from lack of effort. Some people are simply better in some areas than others. I still think he just isn't surrounding himself with the right X and O help on offense.Sorry Coolie, you teach young men leading by example.
