Press Conference

I could see it going either way. A press conference would provide a chance for some public closure. However, he's no longer employed by the team and has no obligations to speak to the media. At some point, he'll probably have someone from the national media do a 1-on-1 interview.

Years from now, some Monday night game, The Steelers will be having a reunion of Steelers to celebrate one of their past achievements. All the old players will make an appearance, wearing their old jerseys. I hope not to see Tomlin there.

So Tomlin is just going to walk out and the only thing he has to say is an AI generated statement on social media? Talk about being a coward. No sports “analysts”, no former coaches, no players have a problem with this. Belichick was basically fired and he still did a press conference to show his gratitude to the organization and fans. All I hear is how wonderful Tomlin is and he’s the greatest coach ever yet he couldn’t even face the media and fans. He ran the team and organization into the ground and held the organization hostage.

I have absolutely no respect for him unless he does a press conference. He wants to do nothing but talk usually but not now. This dude was the HC 19 seasons and didn’t have the decency to give a press conference. He either isn’t leaving on his own or he has grudge against fans, the owner.. something hurt his ego and it’s clear. There’s more to this. I’ve never seen a HC who’s held so high and treated like a god walk out like this. If he doesn’t end up doing a press conference, he should be labeled a huge coward with a fake persona which I believe is true.
I think any grudge might be more with the press and there are likely two reasons he isn't doing a press conference:

1. He has had a strained relationship with the press for some time. The chest beating and comments/gestures directed at the press after the Detroit and Baltimore wins aren't the first times he has had a go at the press. He has abruptly walked out of press conferences in response to questions several times over the last few years and expressed his displeasure a few years back when he was asked if he was considering taking a college job - queried why Sean Payton and Andy Reid weren't being asked those questions;

2. He probably expects the line of questioning at a press conference to focus on whether he chose to quit or was pushed, the "fire Tomlin" chants, current HC openings, and his longer term plans in relation to the game and he probably doesn't want to be dealing with those topics publicly.

And you say he usually wants to do nothing but talk - I think the NFL requires head coaches to hold press conferences after games, so he hasn't really had much choice in the matter. Several of the press conferences (and clips from press conferences) I have seen, he has taken the first opportunity to bring the conferences to an end, so I'm not so sure "he wants to do nothing but talk usually".

And to clarify, a strained relationship with the local press. He's completely different doing national interviews.

I think it is odd he is going out this way too.

This had all the makings of him announcing his last year, everyone jumping on the farewell Mike bandwagon next year.

Instead plop, seeya! I am out the door and nobody needs to know why?

Something else afoot here. If that rumor is true maybe that is it. If it is true there is no way the media can ignore it forever too.
