They better sign a veteran TE before the season starts. They are taking a huge risk with the current situation. McDonald has a long injury history and he's their only reliable guy. Grimble has worked his way up to mediocre.
Gentry is a stringbean TE who was playing QB a few years ago. He's a project. I didn't love this pick. They desperately needed at TE so at that point in the draft, almost any TE was a good pick but I can't see Gentry ever becoming a complete player. He might become a good receiver but i doubt he'll ever be a blocker.
It's tougher for guys that tall to be good run blockers. It took James a few years to become a good blocker and he was much stronger than Gentry when he entered the league.
I'd like to see a backup OT get some reps at TE. Max Starks played TE in short yardage before he became the starting RT.
