Quarterback Scouting Thread

Haven't been around for a minute. But, please enlighten me as to what makes Allar even a consideration in the 1st. Are we talking about his strong arm and that he can make any NFL level throw? So could Jeff George, and a host of strong arm college QBs who had better success in college than Allar and were either "meh" or "OH MY GOD!" terrible. Decision making and processing did not seem to be a strong point of Allar"s in any season.
First round ... God I hope they don't!!

Jeff George was the #1 overall pick. That's my point. Guys with Allar's size and arm talent go in Rd 1. Whether he's successful is a different matter.

How many times do we see guys get drafted high on arm talent alone? Trey Lance barely even started at North Dakota State. The 49ers spent a high pick on him. it happens all the time.

Bears took Mitch Trubiski over Mahomes. Browns took Baker Mayfield over Josh Allen. Baker and Mitch were "pro ready". Allen and Mahomes were seen as projects. Give me the possible star rather than the safe pick.

I get it that all the draft sites have him as a 3rd or 4th rounder now but I really think that will change when he throws at the combine. Most of the other top rated QBs are small with mediocre arms. Allar's size and arm will stand out. I'm already seeing draft analysts starting to talk up Allar

In this draft, I think it's Allar in the 1st
You have to be Drew Allar's uncle or something. There is no other explanation for the undying love you continue to profess for this mediocre player.

Jeff George - #1 overall pick. Barely had a decent career.
Trey Lance - Sucks
Mitch Trubiski - Sucks
Baker Mayfield - has put together a decent career, but, it's not like he's on a HOF trajectory.
These are the first round picks tha were "Meh" or "OH GOD NO" ... These are the apt 1st round comparisons to Allar. 3 of the 4 are the perfect cautionary tale for why you don't draft a kid "just because" he looks the part.
Allen and Mahomes? C'mon man, those guys might have been seen as projects, but they were better decision makers, and more mentally tough than Allar coming out of college. Allar is not the same type of prospect those guys were. Not even remotely.

Tom Brady should come up with some sort of qb iq test. Something that can assess decision making. He could then sell it to nfl teams.

Tom, you owe me money for the idea.

I had an idea years ago where they should do a virtual reality game from the viewpoint of the QB and the prospect would have to make decisions on what he was seeing from the Def. They may have something similar now with the way tech is progressing.

Very outside The Box man..
That technology can apply to many football positions,
In fact in manufacturing, I can say that technologies being used for training purposes.

Agree with almost all of this but Trubisky wasn't considered pro-ready, he had only started one season in college. But he had the traits you speak of.

Trey Lance is an excellent example, too. If he and Anthony Richardson can go top 5, Allar can, too.

I think the Colts gave Richardson freedom to seek a trade so we'll see where that goes. Also means Daniel Jones will more than likely be re-signed there, taking a FA off the market.

He could go in the first. I'm just saying it would be about as wise of a decision as Lance, Richardson and Leaf.

They misled us about his height. Will they mislead us about his hand size?

He's too small for the nfl. He and Kyler Murray could probably do ok in the UFL.

Maybe he could film it, or at least give a class on how to decider and translate it to the field of play calling.

Imagine how much better Kyler’s career would have been if the NFL still allowed midget tossing……….

@bermudasteel i know others have eluded to what you’ve said about Ty Simpson but I’ve missed it.

As somebody whose probably seen every snap he’s ever taken in college what’s your verdict?
Bro, the kid looked awful initially, but a lot had to do w/ learning Coach Deboer's new system - then the lights came on and he shined. He's accurate and willing to run, when needed; but...

I just see a slightly better version of KFP when things break down.

So, IMHO, I would not draft him.

A lot of Steeler "insiders" (questionable nowadays) are saying they won't draft another QB in the 1st unless they're a LEGIT franchise guy. There's no one in this draft, except FM. I'm backing off the QB draft debate, not saying I don't care, but we are talking about QB2 or QB3/4 whoever it may be. My only concern is I hope they do it in the 4th round or later. My preference would be Cole Payton, my prediction would be Luke Altmyer. I still think they should take a shot on a guy on day 3, they have to keep trying to improve the room even if its the depth pieces.

There is no one in the first round other then Mendoza worthy of a first round. There just isn't. If someone falls like Simpson in the second. Even if you trade some capital to move up in the second. Ok. Dump Rudy and two dogs one bone after Rodgers.
