R.I.P. Jim Brown

Proclaimed the greatest of all time.

I disagree.
No denying he’s in the argument. Also a great lacrosse player who led Syracuse to three consecutive national championships.

Slapping around, raping, throwing women down stairs, threatening to kill his woman, beating up golf buddies. Refusing domestic abuse counseling. Usually I never say anything negative about a person that passes but this time I will make an exception. He was a piece of ****.

If anyone has spare time go read about his secret playboy mansion episodes. Beating women up so bad they were sent to the hospital. Breaking jaws, etc. This cat made Antonio Brown look like an alter boy.
Yeah. He’s a scumbag

Of his era I suppose. But I'd have to put Walter Payton and Barry Sanders above him.

Of his era yes of course.
Jim Brown at 231 lbs was a big back that ran over and around slow white guys that were his weight or smaller. The average weight for a lineman in the 1960's was 251lbs, the weight of todays linebackers.
Today Jim Brown in his prime would get jacked up. Tell me he'd blow up Lawrence Taylor. riiight.
Now imagine if any of these guys... Earl Campbell, Jerome Bettis, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Eric Dikerson, Terrell Davis, Adrian Peterson...could go back in time and play in the 50's and 60's...Holy mother of mercy!
Barry Sanders would juke his way to a TD every time he touched the ball.

Now if anyone wants to say that Jim Brown was the greatest of all time based on comparing eras, then I could buy into that....even if he did run around and over slow white guys. But the greatest back that ever lived? Nah.

I suppose should explain my "slow undersized white guys" rhetoric. A very very long time ago, I must have been in my 20's, I was listening to a Jim Brown interview given by some sports talker that still sticks with me to this day.
During Jim Browns era of discrimination and segregation, there existed an unwritten quota among NFL teams on how many blacks could play on each team.

The question posed to Brown would be highly politically incorrect and racist today.
Brown was asked that if blacks were allowed to play, would he have performed as well if he had played against more black players. Unfortunately, I never heard his complete response. I was distracted by someone or something. I would pay to listen to that interview again. A Google search on this issue got me nothing.

Eh, if I could start a pro team today and choose an RB in his prime, Jim Brown wouldn't even be considered. The player I would select would be from the list in the post above, or any good RB in today's game..

Women around the world all are breathing a sigh of relief, one less danger to them now.

for those that say “He was an awful person, but a hell of a FB player.” **** that, he was a shitbag and should be remembered for that alone.

People have a habit of glorifying their idols regardless of what kind of a man or woman they are. But for me priority number one will always be what kind of a person are you. Where you good to other people? Animals? Were you habitually abusive? Did you show remorse afterwards? They don't need to answer to me but at the same time I don't need to sugarcoat their existence. No woman should be abused. No animal should be abused. The people I align with have my same values.

Brown was arguably the GOAT and the GOAT in abusing women among athletes. And that is no exaggeration.

Right, and Mike Webster would get destroyed in today’s NFL. He was still a great player.

Jerome Bettie in his prime.

Yep, and although he may not get "destroyed" Mean Joe at a whopping 275 lbs. and the biggest Steeler on the team, would possibly have some trouble in todays game.
Today the average weight of an offensive lineman is 314 lbs.

But that in no way shape or form suggests he wasn't a great player. I don't know where the hell you were going with that.

Modern day nutrition, supplies, trainers, etc. I think MJG would have topped 300. We are only talking 25 I think that would be doable.

And think how much longer he could have played had he had access to the TB12, the real stuff and not the watered down version………….

I shudder to think of the devastation a young Bussy would do to the NFL in the 50s and 60s...lmao!

Jerome would have been the “model citizen” and rushing leader in those eras.

As Jim Brown was a great player. That’s where the hell I was going with that.

Right. And to my point, Jim Brown would have been a 6’2” 250lb back running a 4.4 forty with modern nutrition and training.

Well duh. Yes he was a great player, in his era. So was Webster. Who denied that?
C'mon man, don't be a douche over here in the football forum too.

Although douche was meant to rinse, sometimes you just can't get rid of the smell.

Douchey is comparing great players from 60 years ago to todays good players in an attempt to diminish their greatness.

No it really isn't an attempt to diminish, but I can understand how someone as shallow as you could interpret it that way.
I'm a Steeler fan. I watched Mean Joe and Webster play and was in awe of their greatness and still am, but as the decades pass you cant help to become aware of these physical freaks in pads in todays NFL..

Please pardon this outrageous notion of mine in believing that this team:

...would kick this teams A S S, and that includes Jim Brown's A S S.

Stewey, very valid point(s), but I’m just glad you didn’t use the 70s STEELERS to get their *** kicked…………..
(I know you wouldn’t do that).

Here is something to consider…… Ben ROETHLISBERGER could have played in any decade / era from 1970s forward.

Right. So what? Saying you’d favor today’s good RBs over Jim Brown is like saying Daniel McCullers would push Mike Webster around.

Misery runs deep in this one..................................................................................

Back I look but yet see nothing
